Was Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children worth it in the end?

All the waiting, the years in between the DVD sequel. Waiting 5 years for it to come out.

Was it worth it for you to see it?

Just hearing Sephiroth go: Good to see you, Cloud. And then the One Winged Angel remix starting.

That made the movie for me

LoDownM 07-24-2006 02:02 PM

Yes

Boomer 07-24-2006 02:03 PM

I thought it was quite enjoyable.

Splaya 07-24-2006 02:04 PM

Give your opinions and such on what made the movie so memorable

Boomer 07-24-2006 02:14 PM

Just seeing all the characters really did it for me. Haven't seen it but once, so I can't remember much else.

Fignuts 07-25-2006 12:53 AM

The whole group fighting Bahamut, and the sephiroth return were the high points, definitly.

Blitz 07-25-2006 01:00 AM

Sephiroth was definitely the highlight.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-25-2006 02:25 AM

I thought the whole thing was pretty lame. Like a bad attempt to make money off the franchise. Most of it seemed sporadic, most of the fight sequences were obscenely unbelievable and retarded, etc, etc.

Sickboy 07-25-2006 04:23 AM

As much as I love FF games, this movie was probably worse than the first they did.

Kalyx triaD 07-25-2006 05:58 AM

All the fight scenes.

The battle theme played by piano (Tifa fight).

The lost city's visuals.

GF summon, and fight scene afterwards.

One Winged Angel, rock version. (Downloaded that sucker)

Although it's out of continuity, Cloud and Sephiroth's fight in KH2 has some interesting dialogue by Sephiroth regarding his old enemy.

Splaya 07-25-2006 11:25 AM

I'm almost near that part in KH2. I can't wait

It was weird though. Because all along it stated Sephiroth would appear only briefly in the film. When Cloud landed on Kadaj and you see the silver long hair, I marked out like the time Austin came out and gave Foley his first title win.

If anyone hated this movie, you either:

1) Never enjoyed FF7

2) Are a douchebag

I loved FF7. Thought the movie was a waste of time. I wouldn't watch it again. If I'm a douchebag for not liking a CGI movie that has little to do w/ the original storyline of 7, and basically offers a bunch of randomness, insanely nonsensical battles, and a bunch of cameos, than so be it.

Fignuts 07-26-2006 12:42 AM

In regards to the battles. You're talking about a movie based on a game where a petite 5'0" teenager is beating the crap out of some dragon so big it fills up the screen.

Ya gotta just go with the flow in action movies. They're supposed to be over the top and nonsensical.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-26-2006 01:14 AM

If I recall correctly, Cloud being hurled higher and higher in the air by others, also defying gravity, only to eventually fall thousands of feet and land without harm on his feet is a little more than "over the top"

In fact, I'm pretty sure it's stupid.

Kalyx triaD 07-26-2006 04:44 PM

It's a fantasy.

Isn't this the game with 30 minute summons that destroy huge chunks of land, and then magically, the earth is fine next round?

Yeah, I'm concerned with the physics.

Boomer 07-26-2006 10:46 PM

Yeah I'd usually go to the bathroom during KOTR summon. Like 3 or 4 minutes.

Kane Knight 07-26-2006 11:14 PM

My favorite is still ChocoMog. I know it's like the earliest, but there's something about a Mog on a Chocobo Stampeding that just rocks.

Touche.

The battles are probably my least biggest issue though. The crap storyline being the bigger one ;)

Fignuts 07-27-2006 04:28 AM

Storyline was crappy, but I think they were definitly focusing on the action, which was a good move. Cause your making a 120 minute sequel to a 72 hour game whose story is held dear in the hearts of millions.

Kalyx triaD 07-27-2006 11:56 AM

Good luck to the dude hired to helm The Legend of Zelda. He's almost promised a death penelty.

Unless Nintendo takes the Advent Children measure and make a CG movie based on the OoT timeline. Or they could have Disney use Wind Waker's visuals to do a full length animated movie.

That might be my own wishful thinking.

I admit I haven't seen it yet, I was wondering what the mob thought, so I clicked on the topic. Other than Ninti being a retard, the overall look is relatively positive.

The problem with making an action flick out of a game that lasts over 50 hours is that everyone's so in love with the game, it's going to be hard to live up to it with 90 minutes-2 hours. It's also, obviously, an action flick. So you're going to end up with a lot of the over-the top anime bullshit, and a storyline that barely strings the movie together. More or less expected. Main reason I haven't watched it yet, either.

UmbrellaCorporation 07-27-2006 04:35 PM

I enjoyed the storyline immensely, although I'll be the first to say that it WAS quite weak.

Oddly enough though, seeing the old FF7 characters on the screen, as WELL as Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz, kept me entertained. Even if the story was weak, I felt that the actions/emotions of the characters were portrayed perfectly.

Besides...Reno + Rude = WIN.
