She cheated on Matt Hardy with Edge, the writers ran with that, fired Matt Hardy, Edge and Lita broke up, but the writers kept them on screen, Matt came back, blah blah blah.

I'm also fairly sure Edge reconciled with his wife

Yeh, it's pretty much all been said. Edge and Lita had a fling breaking up the Matt/Lita relationship in real life, his wife separated from Edge, but they're trying to patch it up and Lita and Edge aren't a couple in real life at the moment.
