Regal WCW release

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Regal
'Regal returned to WCW, but was released again in February 2000 due to overexposing Bill Goldberg's lack of technical wrestling knowledge on an episode of WCW Monday Night Nitro.'

----------------

I'd love to know more details about this. If it were kayfabe, I could imagine a hillarious backstage segment but I guess it means in a match where Regal looked better than Goldberg. Anyone know anything about this?

Mike the Metal Ed 08-05-2006 04:44 PM

From what I know, Regal took offense to the fact that Goldberg was getting a massive push on no ability, so he decided to give Goldberg a wrestling lesson, making him look terrible in the process.

On that exact page, just up like half a paragraph from what you posted was the answer to your question...

"It was widely rumored that he was fired from WCW after no-selling Goldberg's Jackhammer and for using chain wrestling moves that showed Goldberg's limited knowledge of such holds. However, in his book, he states that was not true."

The Mackem 08-05-2006 04:52 PM

Probably should have read the WCW setion haha. But if he states that's not true I wonder if he gave a reason.

Dorkchop 08-05-2006 09:02 PM

Regal is awesome. Goldberg is not.

The Mackem 08-05-2006 09:40 PM

That's right Dorkchop you should go find the video for this incident.

I remember hearing about that before... about him "wrestling" Goldberg and showing him up... I guess I'll definitely have to get his book now to find out (I woulda got it eventually anyway).

James Steele 08-07-2006 06:10 PM

I have it and the match really looks like Regal just wrestling Goldberg and he doesn't do anything until Regal lets him.

Gimme a minute and I'll upload it to YouTube.

Yeah same

Regal is the man. He so derserves to be World Champion

The Mackem 08-08-2006 08:56 AM

LOL - Goldberg's best ever match.

Stickman 08-08-2006 01:34 PM

That was actually a good match. It did expose Goldberg, but man, they coulda made Regal huge after that. If Regal looked better and was a better athlete he coulda been the wrestling machine.

It's a huge letdown that everyone recognizes his amazing wrestling ability, but he never became a main eventer.

The Miz 08-11-2006 03:53 PM

Yeah the date of that is February 9, 1998. LOL @ Mike Tenay

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-11-2006 04:46 PM

Bill Goldberg > William Regal

And the headlock takedown.

Seriously, read Regal's book. Goldberg had no probs with it, and Regal has talked to Goldberg many times since that match. It wasn't until Goldberg's book came out that Goldberg said anything bad about it.

Yeah, this happened in 1998 but Regal was brought back in 1999 and released in 2000 as "a casualty of WCW's cost cutting measures".
