ECW PPV being moved away from Hammerstein

Quote:

source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

The 12/3 ECW PPV was originally scheduled to take place at the Hammerstein Ballroom, however, the crowd reactions at the 8/1 TV taping caused WWE management to change their minds. The PPV will likely take place in Chicago now. Its not official, but this move is likely to occur.

There was a lot of unhappiness with the crowd reactions at the 8/1 show, particularly regarding the swearing chants. The WWE production team had to turn the crowd audio really low at certain times because Sci-Fi doesn't want that kind of language on the air. Internally, the feeling is that the fan base was smart enough to know that, but they still did the dirty language chants anyways.

Gay.

KingofOldSchool 08-09-2006 04:49 PM

 @ them thinking that Chicago fans will be polite

Imagine the pop that Punk will get making his ECW PPV debut in Chicago.

Arnold HamNegger 08-09-2006 04:52 PM

Well, that's a typical WWE move for you. Removing the one element that made the show and previous ONS PPV's a success...not to mention makes ECW unique from Raw/Smackdown.

Christ, talk about control freaks.

:foc: you Vince!

Assuming they will even book him on the show.

jindrak 08-09-2006 04:54 PM

Damn...I would've went too. =(

Londoner 08-09-2006 05:13 PM

Sci-Fi don't want those chants on their channel yet they agreed to the ECW deal? Anyone else think thats fucked up logic, I mean, what did they expect? Crowd chants are what can make a show that is shite seem good.

To be fair, since USA owns SciFi, the SFC didn't really "agree" to anything.

Londoner 08-09-2006 05:58 PM

Oh ok fair enough then.

By that logic, though, Sci-Fi probably aren't the ones unhappy, either. See how that works?

Rammsteinmad 08-09-2006 06:14 PM

I feel sorry for Paul Heyman.

Kane Knight 08-09-2006 06:22 PM

I wanna see these ECW mutants go with the show.

Corkscrewed 08-09-2006 06:35 PM

How does worrying about crowd chants at a TV taping upseting TV execs affect the move of a PAY PER VIEW? :?:

Xero 08-09-2006 08:13 PM

I bet they're planning something like Cena coming in again.

Getting away from the MOST rabid fans in the US, New York and Philie, are the only way they're going to get who THEY want over with the fans. Because, let's face it, the marks are sheep, and will cheer or boo what the hear on TV if they get it enough, whether they be heel or face.

It's called the Vermaat Complex.

RGWhat316 08-09-2006 08:26 PM

This Is Bulls**t! *clapclapclapclap

Well Chicago is a big ECW city and is just as vocal as New York, they'd be better off going to Indiana. People here are probably some of the markish fans around, so it'd be perfect.

You tell me when they make a grown woman almost cry on national television and we'll talk.

(I'm of course referring to the Lita/Matt Hard-related chants at MSG.)

It's kind of like punishment to the fans that were at the Hammerstein that night. They were told not to chant cuss words because they were on live TV, yet they did it anyways.

It's like the Circus coming to town and everybody in the audience chants "SAME OLD SHIT" at the acrobats. They won't be back to that town.

Xero 08-09-2006 08:59 PM

What are they going to do, throw out the entire crowd?

I'd love to see that actually. And then bring in "doubles" like they did for a reshoot of a Booker/Taker finish a while back.

The people at Hammerstein weren't told not to use cuss words because they were on live TV. I know because I was there.

Did you tell them to go fuck themselves? *clap clap clapclapclap*

Damn those fans or be invested in the product! Doesn't anyone know the best was to interact at a wrestling show is to sit quietly with your hands holded in your lap???

PullMyFinger 08-09-2006 10:05 PM

A damn shame, that was the only WWECW show that felt like ECW and was good.

That is such bullshit. WWE wants you to cheer who you want and boo who you want. They just want you to want the guys they want you to want.

Speaking of which, it'd be totally awesome to hear an "ECWWE" Chant

Mark my words, one day soon WWE is going to start put people with cue cards in front of the crowd directing them who to cheer and what chant to make.

Fuck that, the audience will be the same one in Smackdown vs Raw. The most fun in the show will be "Count how many of the fat T-Shirt Guys are out there!"

Jesus Christ. They must know nobody's watching.

The One 08-09-2006 10:31 PM

McMahon: Hey George Lucas...got a sec?

Joey Slugs 08-09-2006 11:01 PM

Moving it from New York to Chicago isn't going to change a damn thing. The crowd will be JUST as vocal, if not more so. And loopy is right... the pop for Punk alone will be enough to bring the house down.

We are one of the loudest wrestling crowds in the world and one of the biggest ECW fan bases.

LIke KOOS said... remember WM22?

If the PPV is moved here (and I don't move to Houston) then I will be there and TPDub will be shown plenty of sign love.

Uh...yeah, I do. That was more or less my point. SciFi asked for science fiction-based characters, and WWE obligied. And they're very happy with the ratings. But all-in-all, since USA is the mothership, it's all under their control. And I'm not saying SFC didn't like the cursing, they bleep as much on movies as any other station. I'm just saying, they might be upset, but you can't blame them for having an opinion on one of their own shows, especially something involved in a deal they may not have been in on.

Kane Knight 08-09-2006 11:49 PM

Uhhh...They were in on it though.

Pepsi Man 08-10-2006 12:00 AM

Actually, on the Taker thing, it was an Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle match. Undertaker was supposed to tap out to a triangle choke (I believe) applied by Kurt Angle, but Kurt was supposed to be pinned at the same time. I think Taker may have been late with the tapping or something, though.

Kane Knight 08-10-2006 12:15 AM

I remember that finish. I don't think I noticed.

I had read about it like the day after, but watching the show, I really didn't realize it. The camera angles, combined with the "fan doubles" had their effect on me, but I did think it was super lame when I read about it.

Man that was fun, If Cena literally was raped and killed in the ring we would of cheered for him.

Anything else, we booed.

Ben Rodrigues 08-10-2006 07:28 AM

Yes. This makes so much sense.
