Royal Rumble

Since it looks like ECW is gonna get a full time TV deal, its gonna be around for a while. That being said how do you think they are gonna pick out superstars for the Royal Rumble match in January. My guess is that they'll have 10 from Raw, SmackDown!, and ECW.

Stickman 08-24-2006 06:22 PM

Wow, you must of thought that up for a long time. I don't think anybody else would've come to that conclusion.

Crippla 08-24-2006 06:24 PM

No, I just assumed they would include ECW because it's one of their main PPVs.

Team Sheep 08-24-2006 06:27 PM

Seriously though, can you imagine an ECW title match being the main event of Mania? :|

Crippla 08-24-2006 06:29 PM

I doubt it but they'll still probably include ECW wrestlers in the Rumble.

Could you imagine a SmackDown! title match being the main event of WrestleMania?

Crippla 08-24-2006 06:39 PM

It was in 2003. Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar.

Xero 08-24-2006 06:42 PM

If you don't get the joke, shut up.

Crippla 08-24-2006 06:43 PM

I got it, I just feel like throwing facts out.

Team Sheep 08-24-2006 06:52 PM

Here's a fact of my own: CanadianCrippler is pretty terrible.

Crippla 08-24-2006 06:53 PM

I can't argue with that really but its really just because I'm an asshole.

Hey, now....A Jeff Hardy fan calling someone a cocksucker is kinda like the pot callin' the negro black. It's not an insult, so much as a "What's up?".

Anyone wonder how long it took him to figure out there was a Royal Rumble this year?

I doubt the WWE would tinker with the formula, but don't you think it would be awesome if they brought "World War III" back? Have one ring for ECW Superstars, another for RAW Superstars and another for SmackDown! Superstars.

When there are only three guys left, those men are announced the "winners" of the match, and earn a shot at their respective brand's title. It seems anti-climatic, but you can then have the current Champions come out and have a six-man tag team match as the main event.

For example, say this even happened tomorrow. Batista would probably win from SmackDown!, Rob Van Dam would probably win from ECW and John Cena would probably win from RAW. Edge, King Booker & Big Show would then team-up to face John Cena, Batista & Rob Van Dam. The challengers would probably win.

The Royal Rumble really needs to evolve, as the show scheme has changed so much. They'll probably just do 10 from RAW, 10 from ECW and 10 from SmackDown!, though. I guess that could be more interesting, as almost everyone in the match would have a chance at winning. Get Jim Ross, JBL & Joey Styles to call the match.

If it happened tomorrow, it'd probably look something like this:

RAW:
1. John Cena
2. Kane
3. Umaga
4. Triple H
5. Shawn Michaels
6. Randy Orton
7. Johnny Nitro
8. Shelton Benjamin
9. Carlito
10. Jeff Hardy

SmackDown!:
1. Batista
2. The Undertaker
3. William Regal
4. Finlay
5. Sylvester Terkay
6. Gregory Helms
7. Bobby Lashley
8. Ken Kennedy
9. Vito
10. Matt Hardy

ECW:
1. Rob Van Dam
2. Sabu
3. Tommy Dreamer
4. The Sandman
5. Kurt Angle
6. Test
7. Mike Knox
8. Hardcore Holly
9. CM Punk
10. Kevin Thorne

That would actually be pretty interesting. The Royal Rumble may become a little more unpredictable with ECW involved, limited the amount of talent involved.

Skippord 08-24-2006 11:43 PM

I would honestly mark out for that Alienoid

Skippord 08-24-2006 11:43 PM

The WW3 thing

Crippla 08-24-2006 11:44 PM

I couldn't picture not having a Royal Rumble though.

Xero 08-24-2006 11:47 PM

To add onto that, the winners of each of the rumbles should then have a three way dance to determine where they land in the card. The first eliminated gets the lowest spot and so on.

Crippla 08-24-2006 11:54 PM

That's a good idea....

I had that idea, but I figured it may do more damage than good. The WWE usually tries as hard as possible to make each one of their World Title matches seem important. By having the challengers ranked, it kind of depletes that.

The more I think about it, the more I like it, though. It would allow like 90 people to get exposure, and it would build directly to WrestleMania. Another thing I like about it:

You'd be able to use the original Royal Rumble Match concept on regular shows. Can you imagine it if Kurt Angle didn't win the World Heavyweight Title in a Battle Royal, but in a Royal Rumble?

Cyber Sunday could have one where the order of entry is determined by the fans' votes. The order of entry can alternate between a random selection, and the fans' least favourite Superstar. Make it for a WWE Title shot at Survivor Series, or just simply for the Intercontinental Title.

Royal Rumble Matches on TV could actually get me to order PPVs more often.

But it's still "ranked" at the PPV itself anyway, and didn't Bischoff and either Stephanie or Long once fight out who would do the actual main event?

Yeah, they may as well do the 3-Way Dance. Or maybe they could shake it up every year and do either a Champions vs. Challengers Match or the Dance? Then do the reverse at No Way Out? I think NWO could be a pretty big PPV if they made it interpromotional.

One of the shows would be the Top main event, and another would be the bottom. Which devalues it more: That it's determined by who wrestles the best, or that they just arbitrarily assign one show the worst slot?

Six to one, really. I'd personally prefer the lip service of pretending they were fighting for the prestige of being number 1, rather than just seeing, say, Raw get the spot.
