Jimmy Yang Wang?

Uh.... what the hell is Jimmy Yang Wang?

M-A-G 08-26-2006 09:45 PM

I think I saw a porno starring him one time.

Crippla 08-26-2006 11:06 PM

Jimmy Wang Yang, I thought.

FourFifty 08-26-2006 11:09 PM

Any video of his promo from SmackDown?

Volare 08-26-2006 11:33 PM

on wwe.com

TerranRich 08-26-2006 11:50 PM

Wasn't he Akio? Jimmy Yang? Or something? Er?

Mr. Nerfect 08-26-2006 11:57 PM

He was Akio. Now he's Jimmy Wayne Yang.

Mr. Nerfect 08-26-2006 11:58 PM

He was Jimmy Yang in WCW, TNA and ROH as well (someone mention the name "Yun Yang" in WCW, but I always thought he was Jimmy Yang there, as well).

owenbrown 08-27-2006 12:00 AM

I know I am gonna get heat for saying this but I am gonna say it now...

WORST.

GIMMICK.

EVER!!!!!:shifty: :wtf:

It was me who mentioned that and he did use the name Yun Yang in WCW as part of the Jung Dragons. You can look it up on DDT Digest, its the best site for WCW info.

TerranRich 08-27-2006 12:06 AM

owenbrown, you may be right. It's not even entertaining in an "OMFG this is gonna tank but be hilarious as a result" way. Just...sad.

mike627 08-27-2006 12:07 AM

Jimmy Wang is on his way to being released this gimmick is the kiss of death.

Mr. Nerfect 08-27-2006 12:31 AM

I do think they could have just has Jimmy Yang cut a promo on an edition of SmackDown! before he faced a jobber:

"Ladies and gentleman, you are about you witness the debut of the next Cruiserweight Champion of the World, and the greatest Cruiserweight Champion of the World, as I plan on ending the legendary streak of current Champion, Gregory "Don't Call Me Sugar Shane" Helms.

Before I treat my opponent tonight to a taste of what Hell undoubtedly feels like, I would like to emphasise that although you may recognise me from my previous stint as "Akio", I was born on the west coast of American, I have eaten American food for my entire life, and I have made love to many a beautiful American woman. Now ring the bell so I can go help get Michelle McCool into ring shape."

It would serve the purpose of getting him over as an American, a wrestler, and it gives him personality. Unfortunately the WWE needs to stereotype every single wrestler they have.

And if you ain't down with that, I got two words for ya....

Thanks. :y:

I am thinking maybe I shouldn't be using my REAL name as an account name on TPWW but I had/have a mental block when it comes to picking a decent name. :shifty:

Petethegeekstreet 08-27-2006 05:49 PM

I love the name. It's halarious. And its not like he could ever get over without an gimmick, just see how successful the Akio "character" was. (using that loosely)

hb2k 08-27-2006 06:13 PM

I'll be the one person who liked it then.

It was so hammy it was funny to me. Of course it isn't the best they could do with him, but guess what, the whole company is that way, so why complain about Jimmy Yang?

Destor 08-27-2006 08:01 PM

I liked it. Hell, he isn't exactly mister personality, give the guy something to stand out from the crowd, we don't need any more vanilla cruiser weights. Plus we get Akio wrestling again win win.

M-A-G 08-27-2006 10:28 PM

No but cruiserweights aren't supposed to have characters. They're just supposed to do their flippy-gymnastic stuff blindly and pointlessly with no desire to connect with the fans on a personal and marketable level. Duh!

Destor 08-27-2006 10:30 PM

That seems to be the leading theory.

Xero 08-27-2006 10:33 PM

Cruiserweight matches are the matches where they accidentally wind up in the ring and have to fight each other and one has to win to get the directions out of them.

You're thinking of X-Division matches. Cruiserweight matches don't last that long.

Nah, X-Division matches are booked, Cruiserweight matches are mistakes.

You win.

RGWhat316 08-30-2006 03:37 PM

Was that Yang's real voice? It looked like it could have been dubbed in, but also looked kind of legit.

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 09-04-2006 10:05 PM

I know there was some question as to whether it was "Wang" or "Wayne" - Look here - http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/ - at the bottom, they call him "Jimmy Wang Yang".

Seems WWE.com was confused too. Originally, he appeared there as Jimmy Wayne.

Crippla 09-05-2006 06:57 PM

I never saw "Wayne". Someone just said they pronounced it that way.

Kane Knight 09-05-2006 07:13 PM

I saw Wayne.

It was up during the brief time there was a superstars page.

ddpBANG 09-05-2006 08:00 PM

From wwe.com

In addition to all the in-ring action, SmackDown fans saw a video that again showcased Boogeyman’s most horrid exploits (Watch the video). Boogeyman will be in action soon on SmackDown, and so will another Superstar that we were introduced to on Friday: a most unusual redneck, Jimmy Wayne Yang. (See Yang’s video)

There's your Wayne.
