Wasn't he Akio? Jimmy Yang? Or something? Er?

He was Akio. Now he's Jimmy Wayne Yang.

He was Jimmy Yang in WCW, TNA and ROH as well (someone mention the name "Yun Yang" in WCW, but I always thought he was Jimmy Yang there, as well).

I know I am gonna get heat for saying this but I am gonna say it now...

It was me who mentioned that and he did use the name Yun Yang in WCW as part of the Jung Dragons. You can look it up on DDT Digest, its the best site for WCW info.

owenbrown, you may be right. It's not even entertaining in an "OMFG this is gonna tank but be hilarious as a result" way. Just...sad.

Jimmy Wang is on his way to being released this gimmick is the kiss of death.

I do think they could have just has Jimmy Yang cut a promo on an edition of SmackDown! before he faced a jobber:

It would serve the purpose of getting him over as an American, a wrestler, and it gives him personality. Unfortunately the WWE needs to stereotype every single wrestler they have.

I am thinking maybe I shouldn't be using my REAL name as an account name on TPWW but I had/have a mental block when it comes to picking a decent name. :shifty:

I love the name. It's halarious. And its not like he could ever get over without an gimmick, just see how successful the Akio "character" was. (using that loosely)

It was so hammy it was funny to me. Of course it isn't the best they could do with him, but guess what, the whole company is that way, so why complain about Jimmy Yang?

I liked it. Hell, he isn't exactly mister personality, give the guy something to stand out from the crowd, we don't need any more vanilla cruiser weights. Plus we get Akio wrestling again win win.

No but cruiserweights aren't supposed to have characters. They're just supposed to do their flippy-gymnastic stuff blindly and pointlessly with no desire to connect with the fans on a personal and marketable level. Duh!

That seems to be the leading theory.

Cruiserweight matches are the matches where they accidentally wind up in the ring and have to fight each other and one has to win to get the directions out of them.

You're thinking of X-Division matches. Cruiserweight matches don't last that long.

Was that Yang's real voice? It looked like it could have been dubbed in, but also looked kind of legit.

I know there was some question as to whether it was "Wang" or "Wayne" - Look here - http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/ - at the bottom, they call him "Jimmy Wang Yang".

Seems WWE.com was confused too. Originally, he appeared there as Jimmy Wayne.

I never saw "Wayne". Someone just said they pronounced it that way.

I saw Wayne.

It was up during the brief time there was a superstars page.
