NBA on NBC theme was the greatest sports theme ever

This new NFL on NBC Sunday Night Football "theme" is pretty tight too (like the music the play before the commericals, not that song with Pink in it or whatever) but still can't touch the NBA on NBC theme.

Also, if you are an American and have no idea what I am talking about then get out of my life, seriously never post on TPWW again.

RoXer 09-17-2006 10:38 PM

WORD

And i can't stand that Pink nonsense either.

OssMan 09-17-2006 10:39 PM

Nah I can't stand that song they play, also Football Night in America is like the worst highlight show of all time

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-17-2006 10:57 PM

NBA on NBC theme was also used on the NBA Jam games

RoXer 09-17-2006 11:04 PM

Only in the arcade versions though I think.

RoXer 09-17-2006 11:04 PM

It wasn't on SNES

DaveWadding 09-17-2006 11:06 PM

I have it as a ringer on my phone

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-17-2006 11:10 PM

Yeah mighta just been the arcade, coulda sworn I remember it from the "home verison" but I dunno. That was a pretty long time ago

Maybe it was on NBA Jam T.E. or something

RoXer 09-17-2006 11:11 PM

Nah, T.E. didn't have it either.

RoXer 09-17-2006 11:11 PM

On SNES

DrA 09-17-2006 11:41 PM

On a related note, they ruined Monday Night Football by putting it on ESPN.

Nervous Ferret 09-17-2006 11:42 PM

GO TONY
GO TONY
GO TONY

How?

What is the difference? Now Sunday night football is on free tv instead, don't see any different at all

DrA 09-17-2006 11:55 PM

It feels just more like Sunday Night Football from last year.

Plus, the tradition for years was that Monday Night Football was supposed to have the best game of the week, which isn't so much the case anymore.

Not to mention that the new commentary team is nothing more than below par.

DrA 09-17-2006 11:59 PM

It's also looks that ABC could not get a contract renewal or something similar, so they did anything they could to keep it within Disney, even if it meant taking away the quality of the show or whatever.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-18-2006 12:07 AM

Yeah the commentary does suck, has sucked for a while though (Dennis Miller?) plus the games sucking isn't really ESPN's fault...since that has also happened a lot in the past. I don't know why the Patriots don't just play every Monday Night, since they are the greatest team in the history of the NFL.

Nervous Ferret 09-18-2006 12:09 AM

Nah they're so good every game would be a huge blowout

DrA 09-18-2006 12:20 AM

The more I think about it, the more it kinda irritates me. If NBC wanted the NFL so badly, why couldn't they just have CBS, Fox, and NBC/ABC show three primetime games instead of the two we get now, leave Sunday Night Football on ESPN, and have Monday Night Football on ABC/NBC?

We're just getting screwed out of a game here.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-18-2006 01:22 AM

didn't John Tesh do the NBA on NBC theme?

Also the theme for college hoops on CBS is/was pretty sweet if I remember

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-18-2006 12:07 PM

yeah its nice but it cant touch the NBA on NBC theme, the day the NBA left the NBC network was a dark in basketball just for that reason

That is why NCAA Football is so much better, if a game in your area sucks they are able to switch to a game that doesnt. Can't do that with the NFL though

Lotus 09-18-2006 12:15 PM

Word life. NBA on NBC was the shit. I hope the NBA comes back to NBC, because ABC blows a serious dick.

Walton and Tolbert are tight though.

Stickman 09-18-2006 02:17 PM

CBC's hockey night in Canada theme is the best theme EVER. It's only been around for like 50 years.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-19-2006 02:24 PM

Yeah I bet the NHL on Outdoor Life Network has a pretty sweet theme too

Stickman 09-19-2006 02:49 PM

I think Hockey Night in Canada's theme is the only theme that if you here it you know what it is. I'm sure every Canadian knows the theme, even if they don't like hockey. Well maybe not every Canadian, like the Asians and East Indians who are Canadian yet don't speak a lick of french or english and who refuse to adapt to the Canadian way of life.

Boondock Saint 09-19-2006 07:20 PM

NBA on NBC. The only thing John Tesh has ever been good for was composing that theme.

Boondock Saint 09-19-2006 07:20 PM

MARV ALBERT

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-19-2006 10:27 PM

Watching games from the 90's on ESPN Classic is the best shit since the basketball was better and they have the NBA on NBC theme

Nervous Ferret 09-19-2006 10:56 PM

According to sTiMa NBC has the best sports coverage. Can't remember wheerre I saw you say that.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-19-2006 11:59 PM

I don't remeber but i mighta said that , I do like their "style" I guess though (graphics, overall "picture quality," all types of ill shit)

loopydate 09-25-2006 07:33 PM

Absolutely agree. The NBA on NBC theme always got me psyched for whichever game was coming up, even if I really didn't care who was playing. It just had a "big-time" feel to it.

Same way the CBS March Madness theme does now.

I knew somebody was gonna post that shit, the NBA JAM knock off

That isn't what I am talking about

D Mac 09-27-2006 06:01 AM

But it has the theme, fucker.

owenbrown 09-27-2006 11:53 AM

I'll rep the first person to find the audio or any video with the theme.

Roundball Rock
Main article: Roundball Rock
Roundball Rock is the theme music NBC used for its game telecasts from 1990 to 2002. The theme became synonymous with NBA basketball, especially since it was used at the height of the Michael Jordan era (and, by the same token, the height of the NBA's popularity). Written by John Tesh, Roundball Rock went through several slight variations (including two different versions used in 2001 for going into commercial breaks, and a separate rendition for NBC's WNBA telecasts) but remained virtually the same for all twelve years of its existence.

The theme was sampled by Nelly in his song "Heart of a Champion" and was used in both an NBA on NBC video game and the movie Like Mike. Both Conan O'Brien and Craig Kilborn paid comedic tributes to the theme when The NBA on NBC ended, and John Tesh was asked about the theme by O'Brien when he appeared on his show in late 2004. During that same episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, the theme was played over footage of the recent and infamous Pacers-Pistons brawl.

YESSS GREATEST THEME EVER

That video just came me an erection

Triple A 09-27-2006 05:20 PM

omg totally just "marked out" for that video. Like seriously right now.

Triple A 09-27-2006 05:20 PM

Like the intro with the NBC logo got me so excited. Then the theme goes into full gear and I got chills.
