Movies to see before you die

I'm pretty sure this thread's been done 6,923 times before, but this time it's Wee Gooner making it.

Pretty much what the title says, name movies you aren't allowed to die until you see. You know, in the vein of The Godfather, Pulp Fiction etc.

Mr. Nerfect 09-29-2006 08:41 PM

National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1. Seriously.

And The Lion King.

Triple A 10-02-2006 02:55 PM

Some of those are a little more "indie". I was basically listing movies that are essential in that they have become like pop culture in society and they are also must see movies if you want to say you are a "movie buff" or whatever.

Those are all great though although some are gonna definitely be hit or miss with a lot of people I think.

What Would Kevin Do? 10-02-2006 07:51 PM

I was thinking about that when I was typing it up... I think I decided on putting them in because granted they are hit or miss, people should still at least check them out and givem them a chance. Even if they end up not liking them, they deserve to be watched.

Also, I have to add..

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The Shawshank Redemption

Also, The Terminal was a damn good movie that people should watch.

samichna 10-03-2006 12:18 PM

I know it has already been mentioned at least a couple times, but Memento is definitely a must-see as well.

Stickman 10-03-2006 12:54 PM

I loved Kill Bill. Volume 1 was better but both back to back is fucking gold.

Fryza 10-03-2006 12:55 PM

Halloween
The Seven Samurai
Clerks/Clerks 2
Tigerland
V for Vendetta
The Princess Bride
Monty Python's The Holy Grail

Lion King/Pocahontos/Mulan

Sin City
Gojira

That's about all really.

AdrianM 10-12-2006 11:11 PM

Ok. I have a question relating to some movies deemed to be that you must see them before you die...honestly, can whoever wrote the following titles please tell me why someone must see these before they die:

- The Princess Bride - WTF!!! seriously, other than Andre being in it, what the hell is so good about this film???

- I heart Huckebees - this movie was seriously such a pile of artsy crap (IMO granted). I'd really love to know what was so special about it?

(although it wasn't mentioned) - Garden state - this movie was so boring and tiresome

AdrianM 10-12-2006 11:13 PM

My choices are:

- Pulp Fiction
- Forest Gump
- Godfather I
- Godfather II
- Full metal jacket
- Napolean Dynamite (yeah yeah, I know no one else likes it but me)

mitchables 10-18-2006 01:51 AM

You're right. Thousands of kids lapped up "Vote For Pedro" shirts because they hated the movie. Good call, AdrianM.

But it isn't...I did not laugh once during that entire movie.

Like, a girl at my work loves that movie too, so I said why...and she just said its reallly good....I mean, WTF!

Jeritron 10-19-2006 06:47 AM

Dude, everyone has different senses of humor and tastes in shit. Thats all there is to it. Pleading to the masses and looking for an explanation isn't gonna change that. Once you realize that, discussing and enjoying/criticizing anything becomes more enjoyable and less frustrating.
