No Mercy Main Event Changed
For the first time in SmackDown history, a pay-per-view main event has been changed with less than a week to go before the event. General Manager Theodore Long has ordered Sunday’s World Heavyweight Championship Match to be changed to a Fatal Four-Way.
Per the General Manager’s orders, King Booker will now be forced to defend his gold against not only No. 1 Contender Bobby Lashley, but also former World Heavyweight Champion Batista and Finlay. As always, the rules of a Fatal Four-Way are simple: the first Superstar to record a pinfall or submission will take home the gold. Stay tuned to Friday Night SmackDown for more on this breaking story. |
:D IF this is true, I guess there was just no way there could be an all-black WWE PPV Main Event.
Edit: Just checked. It's on wwe.com |
Can you say NEW World Champion Batista

Then again, FINLAY is now in the MAIN FUCKING EVENT!!! |

Let Finlay win it and Feud with Benoit upon his return |
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Now if only Lashley could have elevated enzymes of the liver, Batista could aggravate an injury, and King Booker could be caught with drugs on the way to the arena. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... |
Well, at least they are just changing the match participants, and no one is in trouble. When I first saw the headline, I thought it was gonna be Great American Bash all over again. Sucks Lashley doesn't get to have his first SD ppv main-event be a one-on-one match, but should make things more interesting.
|
LOL.
|
I wonder why the change. Maybe they didn't think a Lashley/Booker main event would draw or they want Batista or Finlay to win the title. It would be awesome for Finlay to win it, but I don't see that happening.
|
Fit Finlay in the main event of a WWE ppv, its times like these I wish I had a time machine
|
Here's how they could've saved this:
Switch Kennedy and Lashley in their respective matches. BAM. |
I thought they said Booker and Batista weren't going to work together anymore?
|
easier said than done when they're 2 of the mere 4 main event names on the show (rey mysterio, undertaker).

If Finlay were to somehow win this match. I think a sit-down interview where he talks about his career, his training, the drop foot syndrome, and his return to the ring all the way to the WWE Title would be compelling. Sell it as the greatest comeback in wrestling history (well, since Flair's plane crash).
Also, for some reason, I think the 'E realized that Lashley wasn't gonna do well in this situation. So they needed Batista back in the mix. Unfortunately, Booker and Bats don't get along, so they needed someone who could keep them from killing each other in the ring, hence Finlay. The fact that he can show Lashley what the hell a Wrestling Match is supposed to look like is a plus. Sadly, I am gonna call new champion when either Bats or Lash pins Finlay. |
They prob want Bats as World Champ going into Reunion, either that or they feel a sense of urgency to get the belt on him before he loses appeal. It seems like hes a character that needs the belt or be going for the belt to be effective, like Goldberg or Lesnar. I wouldnt be suprised with a King Booker retain tho. Its around the time where they begin to set in action the course of events that lead to Wrestlemania and unfortunately Batista has more of a chance of having the belt going into it than Book

I'm afraid they are going to fuck up and give Batista the title and have Lash turn heel and feud with him.
The money match would be Batista winning the title and then turn heel the night after the Royal Rumble (have Lashley win it). Setting up Lashley vs. Batista for the title at Wrestlemania 23. |

What he said.

Wish I could see it

What's the audio say? I cant hear it cause i have FUCKING AOL.
I'd laugh if Mitchel Cole said "Booby Lashley" instead of "Bobby." Wouldn't you? |
They probably just don't want Lashely alone in a main event yet. If they did, they'd have to either job him, which would kill his steam, put him over, which would be premature, or book a false finish, which would be seen as setting up Lashely vs. Booker again for Survivor Series.
With this main event, they remove Lashely from the title hunt (for right now, at least), and not take away any steam from him. |
LMFAO. Jabba <3. Now that they're on CW they can't have a Black Champion, obv. UPN was cool because... well come on... it was UPN. :shifty:
|
That wasnt funny. And apparently WWE feels that Lashley is not a strong enough draw to carry a PPV main event yet. Either way, expect Booker to retain, and continue his feud with Lashley until Benoit comes back. Bank on it.

By that I meant the sound clip.

I think it would have been nice to give Bobby Lashley his practice main event, but I think this Fatal Fourway Match is the best thing for SmackDown! at the current time. I mean, Finlay has heat with all three men. He was scheduled to face Batista, plus there was that lengthy feud with Bobby Lashley. If they show a video of that before the PPV, this thing doubles in interest right there. Plus there is the whole King Booker's forces have betrayed him factor.
I'm hoping William Regal has some kind of influence on the outcome. I love Finlay as much as the next guy, but Regal is just has good in the ring, and is a better performer. A proper feud with the guy he costs the title would be nice to see. I'm thinking he hits Finlay with something, which allows King Booker to pin and retain the title. They really don't need to take the belt off King Booker yet. He's been great as World Heavyweight Champion, and they can hold off the title change until around Armageddon at the earliest. I can see Batista winning it there. Lashley and Batista can get a victory over Booker in the SmackDown! main event at Survivor Series, when Team Face defeats Team Heel, but the feud will be far more effective if King Booker holds the big belt. The best thing about this is that it clears up another spot on the card. Sylvan vs. Jimmy Wang Yang? William Regal vs. Chris Benoit/The Boogeyman (in an attempt by Theodore Long to keep him out of the main event). Matches can get more time now, and the event benefits, in my opinion. |
Makes things more interesting I guess.
***SPOILERS FOR NO MERCY*** The Book man will retain though. Just look at the No Mercy poster. |
