UFC: 64 Fight Card

After owning Chris Leben on his first debut, Anderson Silva will face Rich Franklin here is the Fight Card. I know Silva is great on his debut but he is no match for Rich. nough said :rofl:

Yeah well, it was supposed to be Liddell vs. Wanderlai Silva but Pride are a bunch of shady fucks..

Atleast Anderson Silva isn't a homosexual, like Wanderlai..

I'm still undecided on the main event.

I got a question

During the last UFC PPV, they had Tim Sylvia saying something for like 3 seconds talking about Matt Hughes. Now under his name it said UFC Heavyweight Champion. But isn't he in Pride? What's the deal here?

Tim Sylvia is UFC and is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion and (I believe) he trains with Matt Hughes.

Wanderlei(pronounced Vanderlay) Silva is the PRIDE guy.

Wanderlei is a Pride fighter but was at UFC 62 (wearing a PRIDE shirt) to promote an interpromotional fight between himself and Chuck Liddell for UFC 64 (this upcoming PPV).. Turns out, it was all a huge publicity stunt by Pride to get themselve UFC airtime..

And if Silva wins then more power to him and I'll be happy for him but I just don't see it happening at UFC 64 and if it does it'll be an upset IMO.

Notes from the prelims that didn't air from Oliver Copp:

Kurt Pellegrino b Junior Assuncao via choke in the first round
Yushin Okami b Kalib Starnes via pounding on the ground in the third round.

Sean Sherk captured the lightweight title beating Kenny Florian via unanimous decision over five rounds.

Rich Franklin vs. Anderson Silva for the middleweight title is next up. Franklin has a nasty black right eye and swelling near his left eye from training.

Silva knocked him out in the first round. He was destroying Franklin's body with knees from the clinch, and then started throwing knees to the head. It was a brutal knee to the chin and face that broke his nose. A second knee rocked him and a third knee to the temple put Franklin down and out. Franklin said that he was surprised how strong Silva was in the clinch and looked very dejected.

Clay Guida b Justin James via choke in the second round. First round was excellent. James got the early edge striking, but Guida finally got him down and did some ground and pound. James got an armbar late in the round, but Guida did a great job escaping.

Second round saw Guida take James down and use ground and pound. He connected with a good punch from the top that stunned James. He connected with a dozen or more punches until maneuvering to James' back and getting a choke to win.

Spencer Fisher vs. Dan Lauzon opens the PPV. Lauzon was winning the round with two takedowns and ground and pound. When Fisher got up, he unloaded on Lauzon with a flyine knee to the shoulder and punches to the chin and another to the temple and Lauzon was down and it was stopped.

Cheick Kongo vs. Carmelo Marrero:
First round saw Marrero take Kongo down. Marrero never hurt Kongo badly but did enough ground and pound to take the round.
Second round saw Marrero score three takedowns, but did nothing with the advantage. Kongo at least tried a guillotine from the bottom. I could see it being scored for Marrero got I have it 19-19.
Third round saw Marrero go for a takedown and Kongo stuffed him and got on top and was working for a wristlock a few times. Marrero got a takedown late in the round. I'd give Kongo this round.
I've got it 29-28 for Kongo but the announcers indicate 29-28 for Marrero. Either way, it was a boring match. 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28 for Marrero via split decision. To me, all those takedowns in round two shouldn't have won the round because he did nothing with them, and Marrero went for submissions in round two and three.

Jon Fitch vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka is up next.
Round one: Hironaka was working for a triangle early, but Fitch escaped and scored with ground and pound. He had Hironaka's back at the end of the round. I'd give it to Fitch.
Round two: Fitch threw a punch and scored a high takedown. Lots of ground and pound. After a stand-up, Fitch got another takedown. Late in the round he was getting good hard punches. Easily 20-18 for Fitch at this point.
Third round: Fitch dominated stand-up, and scored takedowns at will and brutalized Hironaka with ground and pound. Fitch busted his own nose up landing on his nose doing a takedown. Easy 30-27 for Fitch. I don't see how it could be scored any other way.

One judge had it 30-25 and the other two had it 30-27, easy win for Fitch.

Sean Sherk vs. Kenny Florian.

Great match. The story of the match was Sherk was always able to take Florian down and was landing clean shots with punches and elbows. Florian can take punishment, incuding surviving a fifth round slam where his head bounced off the mat. When the fight was standing, it was a war and Florian was getting the better with wicked body kicks, but Sherk could always get him down. Florian bloodied Sherk up on the right side of the head in the second round from a series of elbows while on his back. Sherk was bleeding badly for the rest of the fight. I had it 49-46 and the judges scores were 49-46, 49-46 and 50-45 for Sherk.

lol Silva decimated him like he was nothing. Rich could have put up a better fight if he didn't go in like a stubborn tool but instead he was like Leben and tried to stand with a guy noone should be trying to stand with. W/e Ace is still awesome and a great fighter to watch...just things have gotten a whole lot more interesting in the 185 division. I think Dana's gonna have to sign a few more name guys...cuz I think it may be the say story every time...only guy who could prolly beat Silva is Dean Lister because he'll just use is Jiu Jitzu, but even then I dunno.

I dont think any of those fighters on the show are anywhere near the caliber of either Rich or Anderson though..so not sure what is going to happen now.

Strong performance by Silva though, definelty going to shut up any critics with that powerhouse win.

I was pulling for Kenny to win the belt..not really sure why. I think he is actually a decent fighter, and going the distance with Sherk sorta proved that for me.

Now I look forward to Melvin absolutely destroying Sherk, because its going to happen. I dont like his attitude, but Melvin is a hoss.

And as much as I like Swick, he doesn't stand a chance in hell of beating Anderson Silva. A guy like Joe Doerkson or Nate Marqhardt would be better choices. They are wayyyyy more seasoned and would not be fucking stupid enough to try trade with Anderson Silva lol.

I do have to disagree with your choices to fight Silva though, both of those guys have terrible stand up, and all Silva has to do is defend the takedown and win. Plus, Doerkson has terrible conditioning. Now someone like Rashad Evans..great conditioning, great takedowns, and a decent stand up game; he should fight Silva. I wish I got to make the fights for just one PPV, that would be a dream come true.

Thats a good new topic, If you could decide the fights for 1 PPV for UFC, who would you have each other fight? Say out of 8 fights.

Apparently the UFC is thinking about resigning Lindland to fight Anderson, which would make sense, he apparently just decimated Jeremy Horn and went to a tight split decision against Rampage Jackson before that and lost (but Page is 20 pounds heavier) and he is an olympic silver medalist at wrestling. I think I've seen him fight once in the ufc and if memory serves me correctly he ain't the most explosive fighter, and he's pretty fucking boring, but his last 2 fights weren't so boring. But if it happens, I have a bad feeling at the pit of my stomach that he'll just take Anderson down and smother him for 5 rounds :(

I haven't heard anything about them resigning Lindland. Would be an awful move in my opinion. They'd be better off getting Matt Hughes to step up in weight.

And you never know if the Ultimate Fighter 185lbs winner can beat Silva or not.

I'd love to see Pat Cote fight him. I don't think I'd like his chances, but he's a tough fuckin Canuck.
