Marvel Studios and No Equal Entertainment to Bring Marvel Favorite Moon Knight to Television

<!---------- END MULTIMEDIA BOX ----------><!---------- START STORY BODY ---------->LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Marvel Studios, a division of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. and Vancouver based production company, No Equal Entertainment, have entered into an agreement to develop a live-action television series based on Marvel’s cult favorite Moon Knight. The announcement was made today by David Maisel of Marvel Entertainment and Larry Sugar of No Equal Entertainment.

First introduced by Marvel Comics in the mid-1970s, Moon Knight remains a true fan favorite as evidenced by the current best-selling comic book series featuring the Super Hero. Moon Knight presents the story of soldier of fortune Marc Spector. After an encounter with the Egyptian god of vengeance and the moon deity Konshu, he became a hero: Moon Knight. The encounter leaves the tormented Spector with even more inner demons to combat. Now as Moon Knight, he hunts criminals in the night, bringing them to justice, and striking fear in the hearts of criminals everywhere. Moon Knight’s blend of action, the supernatural, and complex, intriguing characters will serve as the foundation for the live-action series.

Moon Knight has all the elements for an engaging television series. No Equal Entertainment has a real passion for the project and an amazing vision of how to bring the character and storyline to life that will appeal to action and sci-fi enthusiasts,” said Mr. Maisel.
The production will be spearheaded by No Equal Entertainment’s Sugar. Sugar brings to the project over 35 years experience as a Hollywood executive and producer. His track record includes a wide array of global television series, including: “The Collector,” “Romeo,” “First Wave,” “Dead Man’s Gun,” and “So Weird.”

Mr. Sugar added, “We are delighted to be in business with Marvel Entertainment and believe that Moon Knight will make a compelling and long-lasting television series.”

This could rule, if it doesn't keep up the trend of nearly every live action comic-based TV show ever and suck horrendously. :$ But still. I'd watch it purely because Moon Knight kicks ass.

I am positively tickled pink at the thought

I am aware of Moon Knight and familiar ith his background, but have yet to read his comics. Time to hit up zcult fm.

Lock Jaw 10-30-2006 04:25 PM

I've heard that Moon Knight is pretty awesome from a number of people.

However, the only Moon Knight I've actually read is his current series (which only has like 5 issues out) and it has been pretty bad.

ClockShot 10-30-2006 06:46 PM

I was going to post this article to see what reaction it would get from the people here. I'm all for it.

But what happened to Blade: The Series on Spike TV?

CANCELLED

mitchables 10-30-2006 06:50 PM

It was canned. Low ratings. :-\ Which is a pity, because with people like Geoff Johns and David Goyer involved, it probably, given time, would have wound up being really good :(

Also, Lock Jaw, wtf? Charlie Huston's run has been the best run on Moon Knight so far. Yes, it took him 6 issues to actually don the outfit and set out for vengeance but the build-up hasn't bothered me. Finch's art and Huston's writing made the first 5 issues, which were really setting up the "rebirth" of the character, were all excellent, IMO.

Funky, see if you can find the latest volume of Moon Knight. Pretty sure it is Volume 4 - the arc is called "The Bottom", by any rate, and issue numbers that are currently available are 1-6. :y:

Lock Jaw 10-30-2006 07:41 PM

Haven't read the sixth issue...

But... I dunno. Maybe I would have liked the first five had I known who the hell any of these people were and what the history was.

Funky Fly 10-30-2006 11:51 PM

I'll probably end up getting all of the volumes.

If you read Wikipedia's entry on the character, that should bring you up to speed. :y:

Just looked into this...how does it work? I don't get it. :-\

It's a torrent site for comics. You need to sign up and post once (just an introductory post will do) in order for the trackers to become visible. :y:

Mister Sinister 10-31-2006 08:31 PM

and how do you get to this, been looking for something like that forever.

Boondock Saint 10-31-2006 08:52 PM

K, I downloaded one, and one of the programs, but when I open the comic it says there are no images to display, and closes. :?:

Mr. Monday Morning 11-01-2006 07:46 AM

You'll need a specific program to view most of the comics in cbr or cbz form (in reality they're just renamed rar and zip files respectively)

Search for Comic Viewer and use that

I stand by this post.... all the Moon Knight stuff I have read, which I guess was only this 2006-2009 series and any Avengers/Crossover related stuff from around that time was pretty lame.....

Not as lame and boring as the Eternals comics I read and I ended up really enjoying that movie though, so who knows....

This trailer doesn't do anything for me though....

Between this and X-Men: Apocalypse, Oscar Isaac can't seem to shake the whole Egyptian thing, huh?

ClockShot 01-18-2022 07:18 AM

My Moon Knight knowledge is a bit fuzzy. But I don't think that even comes remotely close to source material in the trailer.

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-18-2022 12:10 PM

That is one bad accent on Oscar Isaac. :nono:

Well it looks like they're going to remove the pre-Moon Knight mercenary aspect of the character. Maybe it'll be implemented somewhere but this is just a trailer so who knows? It looks like they'll be tackling the dissociative identity disorder so that's a plus. I don't think they'll get too wild with it like the Moon Copter or the ankh. I'm just happy we're getting the costume. LOOKING AT YOU, IRON FIST!

Talking about this character is making me think back to the days of playing as Moon Knight in Ultimate Alliance, pumping up his attack speed passive skill and saddling him with the Spider's Bite gear piece which turned him into a blinding blur of destruction.

Yeah. MAG just hit home on it a bit. No mercenary Spector. Ethan Hawke is Arthur Harrow when we could have just went with Raoul Bushman.

Unless this all gets brought to light in flashbacks or down the road in the show, kinda skeptical about this.

Seanny One Ball 01-20-2022 11:54 AM

The actor, Gaspard Ulliel, who was starring in this just died in yet another celebrity skiing accident. God damn man, he played Hannibal Lector once.

When will the madness end?

I mean going off the trailer it looks like has history he's not aware of due to the identity disorder, so it could still be a part of the story.

Whoops meant to quote your other post.

RP 01-20-2022 05:07 PM

I hope they have a scene where he's hallucinating, standing around with Captain America, Tony Stark and Wolverine.

Man, they pack a lot into this first episode but it never feels overwhelming. I'm not sure how people are going to take the handling of the dissociative identity disorder angle, if they're even going to call it dissociative identity disorder. Isaac seems up to task for this, though. I'd have preferred eight episodes to really give viewers the chance to absorb this corner of the Marvel Universe because I don't know how deep they can go in only six. Harrow is an odd choice to be the antagonist but it seems that Ethan Hawke is up for the task, too. Not an explosive "OMG" start but it's enough to stir up my interest. I can't think of any scene that really stands out but the car chase is a trip. Let's hope for the best in the rest of the series.

XL 03-30-2022 03:30 PM

They call it dissociative identity disorder in the blurb for the episode, so I guess they are. Intriguing first episode. Guess we get to see all the “in between Steven” bits at some point.

Oh, I guess I missed that part in the description. I was clicking too fast on the play button. :o

I know one thing that kept throwing me for a loop was the voice. It sounded kind of off but then I saw who the actor was responsible for it. I mean, it could work but for what the character is supposed to be he wouldn't have been my first choice.

OK, they're winning me over with this. This episode really makes me feel bad for Steven Grant. The poor guy just wanted a goldfish. Khonshu's design is pretty wicked and creepy and I'm a bit more on board with the voice. Abraham's one of those actors like Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek that I never would've pegged to ever be part of something like this. It's good that they're getting the important stuff down, like character, before any of the goofy stuff. One of these episodes has to eventually detail what went down with Marc when he first became Khonshu's avatar, though. I would say the final moments of this episode is the strongest part but it's a good follow-up to the premiere. So far, so good.

Third episode is kind of all over the place. They really need to define what Moon Knight's limits are because watching the battle near the end of the episode raises some questions for me. The "judgment" scene reminded me of the beginning of Mass Effect, having just recently started that game. That whole exchange between everyone was pretty neat but it's another thing that raises questions. Highlight is probably Khonshu's big move at the end which is a visual treat and an interesting move for the character. I'm hoping the next episode finally tackles Marc's past.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-14-2022 02:12 PM

The strength of this show so far has been the acting/casting. Literally have no fucking idea what's going on with the plot besides the essential broad strokes and character dynamics. Despite that, I'm enjoying it well enough.

Fignuts 04-20-2022 09:04 PM

Okay, so the hospital is clearly in his head, but I think it would have been much cooler if it was real, and everything up until now had been a hallucination.

Sorry, not a fan of those "it was just a dream/all in their head" twists. It's not interesting and a pretty lazy way to jerk the audience around. My friend and I are debating whether or not this episode was implying that Alexander the Great was an avatar for Ammit, though.

Fignuts 04-21-2022 01:36 AM

I think those types of things get a bad rap because theyre often just a poorly executed method of getting out of a corner they wrote themselves into.

But if written well, it could be a proper mind fuck. This could have qualified, in my opinion.
