BORAT

Who is going to see this opening weekend? I can not wait. The only thing that saddens me is that now that everyone knows who he is, this is the end for Borat :(

Buzzkill 11-01-2006 04:05 PM

yeah I'm pretty excited about the movie, I just hope it doesn't turn into rick james/napoleon dynamite

RoXer 11-01-2006 04:09 PM

This uh suit is NOTT BLACK

Triple A 11-01-2006 04:32 PM

Yeah going to see it on Friday.

And it is definitely going to turn into Rick James/Napoleon Dynamite. :-\

Joey Slugs 11-01-2006 05:09 PM

Already saw it (last month)..... it really is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long long time.

Jeez are Americans really that ignorant of everything outside their country?

RoXer 11-01-2006 07:44 PM

I guess so because I don't know what youre saying.

Joey Slugs 11-01-2006 08:24 PM

Trust me... no matter how many people know who he is, this was going to be the end of Borat anyways. Cohen is moving on to work on "BRUNO" sometime next year (based on his gay austrian fashionista character).

And don't fool yourself into thinking that everyone knows or cares who Borat is. Outside of the 3 major film centers in the US (NY, LA, Chicago) this movie is testing horribly and Fox has already pulled it down to about 800 screens nationwide for the opening.

Bad Company 11-01-2006 08:32 PM

Not Interested.

FakeLaser 11-01-2006 09:01 PM

I'll be there.

Destor 11-01-2006 09:18 PM

It's shame that this will flop after Snakes on a Plane was so succesful...

Are you serious? SOAP was a failure.

Destor 11-01-2006 09:59 PM

1# in the box is good from where I sit. (Although it did not make it's estimations it still had success)

 Where you sit isn't too pretty then.

SOAP Opening Weekend:

<table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="1"><tbody><tr bgcolor="#ffff99"><td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">N</td> <td>Snakes on a Plane</td> <td>NL</td> <td align="right">$13,806,311</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#f4f4ff"><td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td>Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby</td> <td>Sony</td> <td align="right">$13,755,387</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td align="center">3</td> <td align="center">3</td> <td>World Trade Center</td> <td>Par.</td> <td align="right">$10,901,350</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#f4f4ff"><td align="center">4</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td>Step Up</td> <td>BV</td> <td align="right">$10,157,605</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#ffff99"><td align="center">5</td> <td align="center">N</td> <td>Accepted</td> <td>Uni.</td> <td align="right">$10,023,835</td> </tr></tbody></table>

The next weekend:

<table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="1"><tbody><tr bgcolor="#ffff99"><td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">N</td> <td>Invincible</td> <td>BV</td> <td align="right">$17,031,122</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#f4f4ff"><td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td>Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby</td> <td>Sony</td> <td align="right">$8,122,642</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td align="center">3</td> <td align="center">7</td> <td>Little Miss Sunshine</td> <td>FoxS</td> <td align="right">$7,371,263</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#ffff99"><td align="center">4</td> <td align="center">N</td> <td>Beerfest</td> <td>WB</td> <td align="right">$7,031,228</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td align="center">5</td> <td align="center">3</td> <td>World Trade Center</td> <td>Par.</td> <td align="right">$6,473,299</td> </tr></tbody></table>

Not even touching the top 5 just one week later. I'm sorry man... it was a failure. From where I sit (inside the business) that doesn't look to good for BORAT to be compared to SOAP.

DrA 11-02-2006 01:42 AM

I have not been looking forward to seeing a comedy this badly since Something's Gotta Give.

DrA 11-02-2006 01:43 AM

Please note that I have never seen Something's Gotta Give.

Funky Fly 11-02-2006 04:17 AM

Gonna see it Friday, if nothing better comes up.

wow I apologise I TOTALLY misread your original comment.

I hang my head in shame

sorry

Champion of Europa 11-02-2006 04:59 PM

I really wanna see it, but I don't think it will be the next Napoleon Dynamite. It's relatively smart satire, and Fox has dropped it to 800 screens with potential to give it a larger release. It won't hit the small towns like Dynamite did.

They've already killed off the potential for a larger release.

Triple A 11-02-2006 08:17 PM

Napoleon Dynamite opened in literally like two theaters. It didn't spread to smaller markets until months after its original release.

bigdaddysuperfreak 11-02-2006 08:34 PM

I dont know, Borats kinda funny but I think its just a rip off of that Yakkoff Sminorff comedian from years ago.

FakeLaser 11-03-2006 02:22 PM

Except Borat is funny.

and he's not a ripoff he has being doing the Borat character in the UK for years

What Would Kevin Do? 11-03-2006 07:34 PM

This movie was fucking hilarious.

Stickman 11-03-2006 07:36 PM

All the reviews I'm getting are saying this is the funniest movie ever. I'm worried that it won't live up to the hype.

What Would Kevin Do? 11-03-2006 07:38 PM

Ever... Probably not. The movie is fucking hilarious though.

Glad I wasn't the only one to make the correlation.

Funky Fly 11-04-2006 01:59 AM

Just got back. This movie deserves a ROFLcopter.

Kris P Lettus 11-04-2006 09:19 AM

Joey Slugs, what do you do "inside the buissness"??

Also, you are retarded.. I haven't been able to turn on the tv without seeing him on a show or seeing an ad for this movie.. Fucksake, I've heard it called "the funniest movie of all time" on some pretty mainsteam shows..

No LOLerskates?

RP 11-04-2006 09:28 AM

Joey Slugs is trying to destroy this movie!!!!!!!!!

Joey Slugs 11-04-2006 12:38 PM

I want the movie to succeed, it will make our work over the past 6-8 months worth it.

But I'm being realistic. Thanks to the horrible job SOAP did (there was mainstream outlets predicting a $40-60 million dollar opening) you can never be sure how a smaller movie will do.

Good for you. It's not like that all over the country as it would be for a movie like Spider-Man.

Kris P Lettus 11-04-2006 12:54 PM

Again, what do you do in "the industry"?? By "our work" do you mean you worked on it?? (cause I know some camera operators that did)

Also, national news and entertainment stations are broadcast all over the country.. Just this morning, I've seen him on Mtv, CNN, and E!.. These channels are nation wide..

I don't see where your argument is coming from..

Kris P Lettus 11-04-2006 01:00 PM

ALSO, I currently live in Jackson, MS.. If it was going to be ignored anywhere, it'd be here..

Again, your argument is rather pooy..

Joey Slugs 11-04-2006 01:17 PM

No, I did not work on the movie directly but I did help market it. And you are a fool to think that just because it is being shown and talked about on CNN, E!, and MTV that everyone cares about this movie and is going to rush out and see it.

Like I said, I saw it last month and thought it was very funny. Funniest movie ever? No. But funniest movie to come out in quite some time? Yeah.

How much do you think it will make this weekend?
