Who on the current roster right now has the potential to be the next Austin/Rock?

Discuss

Other things to consider:

For example, Austin and The Rock never had to answer or get approval from HHH because they were higher than him and they drew more

Politically, and in front of the camera, who has what it takes to be the next Rock/Austin

PullMyFinger 11-09-2006 07:35 PM

In the current WWE?

Honestly, no one.

Jaton 11-09-2006 07:36 PM

We can't say for sure politcally. But I'm assuming Carlito and Ken Kennedy will step up to the plate once some of the older guys are phased out. IE: HHH, Shawn, Booker, Hogan (again)..etc.

Crippla 11-09-2006 07:38 PM

Well, you could say some wrestlers remind you of Austin or The Rock but I don't think there are any that are that similar in character as people say. For example, people often compare Carlito or Randy Orton to The Rock but they are really completely different character IMO. I don't think anyone will be as high up politically above Triple H as they were either.

The Naitch 11-09-2006 07:44 PM

Here's my list

-CM Punk (even though I think straight edge is fucking GAY)
-Ken Kennedy
-John Cena (if his character wasn't so gay and went back to it's 2003 roots)
-Edge

But not one man can save it. You gotta fix the machine first

Pinnacle Charisma 11-09-2006 08:14 PM

Honestilly John Cena never had it or he never will no matter what character he had. He cannot appeal to a whole range of demographics. The Rock and Stone cold entertained everyone. Anyone from a 11 year old girl to a 80 year old man could be entertained by ether of these two whiether Cena only appeals to young kids and women (even then I doubt that women would see him week in week out).

Edge and Orton I think are only good enough to be upper midcard heels (not main event quality). The only reason they have been pushed thier in the past has been because a lack of top level heel talent.

Kennedy, Punk and Carlitto all have huge levels of talent and charisma. I am not sure if they can be as big as Austin or Rock but out of all the "wrestlers " in the wwe at the moment those three have the best chance.

Testicle 11-09-2006 08:28 PM

holy crap dude,

i cant believe you put cena up there,

sadly there is no one in the wwe today that is the quality of austin or the rock

JH 11-09-2006 09:24 PM

there will never be another rock or austin period
hogan is'nt even on their level

I agree, but there are some people working their way up, Angle IMO was there, but right now I have to say Edge is working as a really good neutral (He is too much of a face to be a good heel) and from what I have seen, there is no one else, Rock and Austin where top of the line, unlikely to paralled in talent, chemistry, or popularity.

Mr. Nerfect 11-09-2006 09:50 PM

CM Punk and Mr. Kennedy are the only two that come to mind. There is no way these two guys get held down for too long. Bobby Lashley will get a main event push whether Triple H loves him or hates him, as well.

I think that is about it. Idol Stevens is currently in a shit role, but he has the ring skills and charisma to go places. Assuming he gets a chance to cut promos and what-not, I can see him being one of the future stars of the WWE, as well.

Mr. Nerfect 11-09-2006 09:51 PM

Carlito will be a main event player, but he won't be on the same natural level as Stone Cold or The Rock. He's going to be a more artificially pushed guy, like Triple H. He's going to be entertaining, put on great matches, but if he had that same level of energy as The Rock or Stone Cold, he'd be main eventing right now.

St. Jimmy 11-10-2006 12:09 AM

Edge and Trips could be an amazing fued.

D Mac 11-10-2006 02:04 AM

Orton, he already does the People's Eyebrow.

I disagree about Carlito in the sense that it's artificial... His character is supposed to be laid back, so he shouldn't be out there showing the same energy as Rock or Austin.... However, looking back, there have been times when he's been "fired up" persay and does it really well. When he needs it, he has real energy, but he normally doesn't need it for his character.

Chavo Classic 11-10-2006 11:34 AM

CM Punk. :D

Destor 11-10-2006 11:38 AM

Punk is likely the next HBK. Great wrestler, loyal fanbase, but not an amazing draw.

Pepsi Man 11-10-2006 12:45 PM

Doug Basham

TerranRich 11-10-2006 02:01 PM

KENNEDY

No? I think so.

I think those were his exact words actually.

Doug Basham does not have the same spark Stone Cold/Rock did. He can wrestle well, but if he were on their plateau, he'd actually have been used after the WWE initially split The Basham Brothers.

Crippla 11-10-2006 06:55 PM

Also, no one gives a shit about Doug Basham except you. Sorry but it's true, he just doesn't have the charisma.

I agree with what you're saying, I didn't really articulate my point well. My point is that Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock were so big, Triple H couldn't keep them grounded even if he wanted to. Carlito is not at that status. Maybe it is something he will achieve in time, but to be honest, Carlito's stock has dropped in the company since he's turned face.

I agree Carlito is charismatic, and he can be energetic, and he's got the ring skills, it's just he doesn't have the upwards momentum the Rock/Austin had. Maybe if the WWE gave him a kickstart I would change my tone?

Austin-Triple H because he runs a muck right now much like Austin did.

Rock-Kennedy because of his promo and he's got the crowd saying his phrases.

jindrak 11-11-2006 12:28 AM

Ken Doan.

Both Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter could have "it", but until they drop the gimmick, I'm not going to put myself out there. I expect big things for Doane and Jeter, however.

Pinnacle Charisma 11-11-2006 08:49 AM

I think Jeter will be the next Jericho. Being in the mid care putting on great entertaining matches but will never be a long term main eventer (sadily)

Testicle 11-11-2006 09:44 AM

dude, chris saban rules, what the hell are you talking about

plus there is no one in the wwe that can be the next austin or rock

It's odd you say this, as Johnny Jeter actually reminds me a lot of Chris Jericho. There was a match he had with Matt Cappotelli in OVW for their Heavyweight Title, in which he not only moved like Jericho, but he looked like Jericho. He had long hair, which was dark, but still. He attire was Jericho-esque. It was kind of creepy. He also used to do the Lionsault as a finishing move.

I would not be surprised to find out Chris Jericho is Johnny Jeter's favourite wrestler.

Who is ever gonna be higher than Triple H?

Kennedy reminds me of a young Austin, that beat down on Taker on Smackdown reminds me even more of Austin now, plus he has a similar look to what Austin used to have.

Carlito is the only one who reminds me of The Rock, but his gimmick just seems like a midcard gimmick to me so I can't see him going to the main event level for a while.
