It gets better for you Benoit fans...

Sorry to post two news stories in a row... the forum's a little dead and I found this RUMOR interesting.

http://www.wrestleview.com/news2004/1076693461.shtml
Quote:

- There is an interesting rumor going around at RAW right now. Sources are saying that HHH does not want to work with Chris Benoit past their match at WrestleMania XX.

With that said, HHH is pulling to have Edge come over to the RAW brand so he could work with him (and probably bury him too).

If this rumor is indeed true, it is possible that HBK will somehow cost Benoit and himself the title at Wrestlemania. That would then lead into a match between HBK and Benoit in Edmonton at Backlash, with HBK being a heel. Keep in mind that all of this is no more then a rumor at this point.
It's like everything the internet fans claim is coming true, assuming this is true. I don't think I'd put too much weight into it, but it makes for an interesting discussion.

Razor Rybek 02-13-2004 04:20 PM

I DO like the idea of HBK/Benoit one v one, I believe they could put on some quality matches together but i dont think the fans will ever be able to boo michaels so i cant see him turning heel.

Bad Guy 02-13-2004 04:23 PM

HHH, still heavyweight champ after Wrestlemania? I could have told you that!

Loose Cannon 02-13-2004 04:25 PM

Oh god, this just popped into my head when I read the story.

What if Benoit wins the title at Mania, faces HBK in Canada for the title. Then at the end of the match Bret Hart comes down and waffles HBK with a chair shot to give Benoit the pin. The crowd would absolutely lose it.

Or you go the other way and make Michaels going in as champ and Bret does the same thing, but helps Benoit win the title instead of retain it.

I swear if that were to happen, that would be the greatest moment of all-time for me as a wrestling fan.

Rock Bottom 02-13-2004 04:40 PM

LC. That. Would. Be. SICK.

I'm already having a hard enough time trying not to mark out and force myself to believe the Bret's return rumors as it is. Don't make it worse!

Anyway, yeah Corky this would definitely be good discussion. If Triple H acts like a baby THAT much, and retains the title... That's the day that Vince no longer rules wrestling. It is absolutely imperitive that HHH drop that belt to Benoit. Even if he is too egotistical to do it at Mania, or lay down, whatever. We have already established that Triple H makes wrestling his real life. It's one thing to make it your "life" in the sense of devotion, but it's another to do it as an obsession.

Edge? I really don't think Edge is going to cut the mustard, but I really don't think it's fair at all to just feed him to Triple H either, if this is the case. Edge does not deserve that. Even though I don't think he will be a big draw or anything, Edge is a good wrestler.

I swear to God, the force will be in balance again when The Rock finally returns. Wrestling is ALWAYS good when The Rock is on. He is the opposite of Triple H backstage. There are guys like The Rock that have no problem laying down to anyone back there too buried in the mid-card.

Champions like Triple H are not cool, not cool at all. He is STALE. Benoit is NOT. When Benoit does nothing but wrestle, hardly ever talks, and is STILL in there and can play face or heel, is over with fans, it is time to give the guy the god damn belt.

If anything, if Triple H can't muster the testicles to accept that wrestling goes beyond his personal fantasy world, at LEAST, at LEAST drop the title to HBK. Because even with HBK's history, I doubt he would mind jobbing for Benoit.

I really miss Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock. Guys like that would just make people refuse to believe they wouldn't eventually conquer their foes. In terms of satisfaction, I mean. They're telling people to step up to the plate, but it is HARD to do when Triple H is the pitcher.

The WWE is not going to be saved by the new guys. The WWE is going to be saved by none other than The Rock, The Undertaker, people like that. ESTABLISHED people. The new guys WILL get their time, and WILL advance in the ladder... But none of them are going to bury The Game, and that's what needs to be done to a certain extent, to bring balance back to this soap opera. This is why I eagerly await the return of The Rock. If not Benoit right now, then who? More Triple H?

We don't need anymore Triple H storylines. We need wrestlers that are just going to kick the shi</>t out of their challengers, and feud with just about anyone.

Right now, we need Chris Benoit as the World Champion.

Innovator 02-13-2004 04:42 PM

If Triple H walks out of Wrestlemania as Champion, I'm quitting wrestling

Nowhere Man 02-13-2004 04:43 PM

Edit: Nevermind. I didn't read that the whole way through.

Anyways, Paul Levesque should rot in hell.

I'll agree with that statement, yes but i believe that HHH still has an important part to play within the WWE. The WWE needs HHH if they are ever gonna give wrestlers like Edge, Benoit, Orton etc, credible main event status. he just needs to stay out of the title picture for a bit. HHH is still a monster heel and he obviously does his job very well because not a day goes by without somebody posting something on TPPW.net about him. Put simply, We love to hate HHH and that IMO is what the WWE wants.

I am not for one minute, condoning nor approving of his backstage politics and massive ego problem, Im just pointing out that although it is everyone's opinion that it is time for HHH to step back and let someone else run with the ball, he should not stray to far from the title scene

I agree with you on some points. Jobbing to HBK is not the best move to me, but I see why you would suggest that. HBK seems to be the only person HHH would willingly job to.

Why can't the suits backstage see that wrestling has pretty much sucked since HHH has been in the main event?

That is not going to happen as long as Triple H is "invincible." He will bury them until there are stockpiles of washed up wrestlers.

And I agree, but if WWE could somehow convince HHH that looking at the ceiling now and again does not necceseraly damage your career (Like the Rock), then the the main event push of these guys like Jericho and Orton would seem more credible.Thats all i was trying to say. Don't get me wrong, i was not disagreeing with your points.

Bret Hart isn't doing anything like an angle in the WWE ever.

Apparently, Triple-H wants to work with Edge after Mania but it certainly won't be for the title.

Not to mention that they're two of the few that can keep a lid on HHH's ego... and keep him out of the main event for a few months at a time.

Yeah man, that's the entire thing. I don't believe the new guys are going to be able to pull that off. I love The Rock and all, and I can't really blame him for being in the movies or spending time at home with his baby and wife, but damnit Rocky.

Cold's response just gave me an idea for a discussion topic.

Rob, you seem highly jaded on the Hart situation. I think you are right, it's not that, that I'm bringing up... Were you a huge Hart fan?

Best idea ever.

This alone could cause a huge sure in popularity again.

Rock Bottom 02-13-2004 07:16 PM

Without a doubt. I just wish it would happen. But it's not looking too good accoding to some. :(

If that happened... I would mark out like a special child and call all my childhood friends and relatives about it.

Not were, still am bro.

Put it this way, nobody should waste their time saying they are a bigger fan because they aren't :)

The guy was like my freaking idol growing up. Hell, he probably still is now.

Bret was my fav in the day. I liked him alot more than the casual fan, but you seem devoted to your Bret-markhood. I think I am the same way with The Rock, I have all but idolized him.

Chirs Benoit is so much better than Edge, you fon't know how badly Triple H retaining the title and working a feud with Edge would reflect on the WWE. I think even the most gullible of marks will be suspicious of why Triple H won't job to anyone.

Myself, as well as most of you have already stated that Benoit needs to win the World title at Wrestlemania in order to keep his momentum that he's gained since Survivor Series. There will never be another Wrestlemania XX, and if WWE blows the biggest match of Benoit's career by having him job to Triple H, you'll find that there's going to be another ratings recession (at least on RAW).

LC, if that happens, I would both mark out like a little girl AND make you leader of the Crew AND acknowledge you as the best person ever.

Corkscrewed 02-15-2004 03:12 AM

For that matter, if that happened, I'd never say anything bad about the WWE again.

Nowhere Man 02-15-2004 03:53 AM

But it won't. Seriously kiddo, after watching WCW go down in flames, reading up on the agonizing demise of the AWA, and looking at the current backstage situation of WWE, I've learned to never be optimistic about anything in wrestling anymore.

Well, the fact that I'm all alone on Valentine's Day may be kicking my cynicism into overdrive, but the more I look at it, the more I really wish I'd never started watching in the first place.

if H walks out of Mania I won't be surprised.

But yes, Austin and Rock are about the only two who can put a lid on HHH and maybe Taker, although he's on Smackdown.

And although the Bret Hart thing is a great idea, I doubt that will happen.

Bad Guy 02-15-2004 02:50 PM

I'm already this close to stop watching this garbage. If Vince goes through with this I'll probably be done for good.

The CyNick 02-15-2004 04:01 PM

Bret wont be involved in any angles, it would cheapen his whole situation into a work for a WWE TV angle.

As for HHH, look the point on him is that he doesn't do any JOBs, and he continues to drag down business. Armageddon, which he headlined did barely 200,000 buys, which is the lowest in years. Most people would see that and say Hunter's time on top is over, but not Vince, because he cant separate business and personal stuff. Ive said a million times, I dont hate HHH, I hate Vince for keeping HHH on top when clearly anyone with half a brain cell can see he doesn't belong there. And about HHH putting people over......man thats some funny shit, trust me, it will NEVER happen.

Benoit-HBK would be a great fued for Edmonton and fans in Canada, but for the rest of the audience I think it will hurt Benoit. HBK is a beloved character and if you put him up against Benoit, I think the majority of the fans will turn on Benoit. I can see this leading to HHH getting the title back a lot quicker.

HHH vs Edge, poor Edge he thinks he's going to be in the main event picture, but I predict by this time next year he'll be on the list with RVD and Booker T of guys who should have been pushed, but instead were fed to Hunter's ego.

Loose Cannon 02-15-2004 04:06 PM

Cynick, but wouldn't they turn on Michaels cause they're in Canada?

And you know what, Bret should just buy a front row seat and then when security isn't looking, jump the railing and deck Shawn once in the face just for the hell of it. LOL

Innovator 02-15-2004 04:07 PM

Taker can be put onto that list as people who can shut HHH's ego up. Taker has been with the company for 14 years come November, and always did what is best for the company, even if that means playing a satanic character he never really liked. Hell Taker even tried a program with A-Train, Big Show, and Nathan Jones. He keeps trying to improve himself over the years, and isn't afraid to take the occasional plancha over the ropes.

Yeah lets see HHH do a plancha, only for the sake of the fans.

Yeah the CDN fans would be against HBK, but what does Canada matter? The vast majority of WWE shows are done in the States, so while HBK might work as a heel in Canada, Benoit would look like a heel to the rest of the fans in the US, which would hurt Benoit's ability to draw as champion.

Taker and HHH play the same game, just on different shows. Taker doesn't do JOBs just like HHH doesn't do JOBs. Granted Taker is a little better, I mean he did put over Brock perfectly in HIAC, but aside from that he doesn't really do any JOBs.

And yeah Taker is respected, but Taker has no power compared to HHH who is essentially running the company.

Oh sorry, I read your other post wrong. I thought you were talking about how HBK would be cheered in Canada over Benoit. My bad. Your right about what would happen in the States.
