The Official Comic Book Thread

A couple questions to start this off:
Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, Crisis on multiple earths, Crisis on infinite earths, which came first?
My first question here is which of these storylines came first?

I know Graduation day kinda started it all and I'm currently downloading all these via torrent.

My second question is: is there anywhere online to read comics free? Hopefully including these comics?

number 3: what else do i need to read to understand these series?

number 4: What are your fav comic's series/ graphic novels?

My top 5 right now are:

1. Watchmen
2. Dark Knight Returns
3. Sandman
4. Spawn (I loved Spawn/Batman mcfarlane and Miller together= amazing)
5. Sin City is tied with Stray Bullets

Which storylines do you mean? I'm assuming you mean Teen Titans and Young Justice.

Nope. Your best bet is going through torrents. Or, y'know, go to an actual comic shop and buying the issues.

Well, just going back and reading the old Titans comics would be a help (they've got whole volumes of it in paperback and whatnot)

1)Kingdom Come- Waid and Ross's masterpiece, and IMO the greatest superhero story since Action #1.

2) Superman: Birthright- The new version of the Superman origin. It's badass.

3) Batman: The Long Halloween- A retelling of the origin of Two-Face. The story is great (I love Jeph Loeb on Batman) and Tim Sale's artwork is fantastic.

4) Hellboy: Strange Places- So far the last Hellboy story, though I'm sure there'll be more to come. Mignola's artwork is outstanding, and discovering the secret history of the world is very very cool.

5) Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?- A fantastic piece by Alan Moore which shows the last days of the Silver Age Superman. I know most people consider Silver Age to be incredibly campy, and it is for the most part, but when done right, some of the stories (particularly this one) are absolutely amazing.

Honorable Mention: Mark Waid's Golden Age/Silver Age novels, Superman: Red Son, Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn, Invincible, Alan Moore's run on Supreme and pretty much anything he did with Batman back in the day (Killing Joke, Mortal Clay, etc).

Watchmen and Sandman are both spectacular, though I've always found Frank Miller to be incredibly overrated. I especially loathe his Batman, since all he does with it is turn Gotham into Basin City and turn Batman into Marv (this is especially obvious in All-Star Batman and Robin) But then again, DKR has a huge fanbase (mostly people who got a kick out of watching him wail on Superman- and don't get me started on that), so it's all a matter of taste, I suppose.

Dude, comics are like 2.50

Just go to the store and buy them.

1. Kingdom Come
2. Dark Knight Returns
3. Infinity Gauntlet
4. Wolverine- Enemy of the State
5. x-men Fatal Attractions

Joey Slugs 11-16-2006 12:15 AM

CIVIL WAR BITCHES!

Fignuts 11-16-2006 12:33 AM

Civil War is probably the best story in years. Gonna wait til it ends, before I lay more praise.

After reading #5... it is by far one of the greatest comic stories ever.

The final line of Civil War #5 is the reason for that.

Indifferent Clox 11-16-2006 01:45 AM

Ooops! I edited out the beginning of this! Shit!

the original title was infinite crisis, indentity crisis and the crisis on infinite earths! that should make the questions more understandable!

AH.

Well... in order:

- Crisis on Infinite Earths
- Indentity Crisis
- Infinite Crisis (Which is pretty much a continuation of CIE)

Joey Slugs 11-16-2006 02:00 AM

and to read CIE... you need a "somewhat decent" (just to know character's histories) knowledge of DC history and to read Infinite Crisis you need to first read CIE and then have a knowledge of some of the more current storylines (ie: OMAC project)

Indifferent Clox 11-16-2006 02:16 AM

can you give me this knowledge?

Indifferent Clox 11-16-2006 02:17 AM

by the way thanks everyone for this, i'm dling stuff right now.

I'd buy it all but a lot of it is extremely hard to find and I don't know where to start.

ugh. that's a lot of stuff really. google search shit... you can find wiki articles on pretty much all of it.

I'm in a good mood.... so I'll help you out with the Infinite Crisis stuff

Countdown to Infinite Crisis

The OMAC Project

Rann-Thanagar War

Day of Vengeance

Villains United

Those are the main lead-ins to the IC and the articles are pretty much 100% (there are also TPB versions of all of these stories available)

People are out there taking the time and effort to scan comics for "backup" purposes... so atleast go out and buy the main storyline if you are going to download all of the other tie-ins.

And in THIS link, you will find a list of every major storyline linking CIE to IC.

This is all I can think of right now. If anyone has anything to add... be my guest.

All I ask for is a little rep-love.

Joey Slugs 11-16-2006 02:37 AM

Even though this is "spoiler" worthy for those who haven't read it yet.... but this really was the best image from the entire IC series:

Indifferent Clox 11-16-2006 08:15 AM

thanks. my rep is shit so I'll get Kalyx and Alvy to rep you guys.

Nowhere Man 11-16-2006 08:50 AM

For a really really good guide to Crisis on Infinite Earths, look up Alan Kister's article on Monitor Duty.

Indifferent Clox 11-16-2006 10:58 AM

So in order I should read Prelude, Countdown, Omac, Rann Thangar, Day of Vengeance, and Villians United?

I mean *Spoiler* is shown dead right in the begginning of OMAC So Should I read Countdown first or as the site you linked me to suggests should I read Countdown half way through? and what of prelude?

any tie ins I should read first? I'm about to go and look at every book by date lol.

Indifferent Clox 11-16-2006 11:01 AM

I mean I need to read Crisis On Multiple Earths, then Crisis on infinite earths, then Identity Crisis, then those above? am I correct?

Something like that.

Or go to your local comic shop and ask somewhere there how he would go about going back and reading this stuff.

Indifferent Clox 11-16-2006 01:35 PM

thanks a lot guys. I'm reading Kirstners article right now.

Boondock Saint 11-16-2006 01:57 PM

I suggest:

Y: The Last Man
Fables
Preacher
100 Bullets
Sleeper

Indifferent Clox 11-17-2006 12:08 AM

I'm reading Y: the last man

I am getting fables
I've heard of preacher

100 bullets looks crazy interesting

never heard of sleeper, must be a... SLEEPER!

Mr. Monday Morning 11-17-2006 04:36 AM

Read Preacher or a Clint Eastwood lookalike will blow your brains out

Indifferent Clox 11-17-2006 10:28 PM

Any more recs?

Boondock Saint 11-18-2006 11:00 AM

Ex Machina.

Rammsteinmad 11-18-2006 06:08 PM

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but I don't really wanna make ANOTHER comic thread in a movie forum.

Has the Onslaught Reborn story come out yet? I've read that it comes out in 2006, I think it's a 4 issue mini-series or something (this thread is about certain stories right?).

Indifferent Clox 11-18-2006 06:16 PM

I just picked up American Virgin 1-6 and the first Nightly news. Both look very promising.

Also I got Amazing Spiderman 529 or something.

Boondock Saint 11-21-2006 05:10 PM

Astro City.

Woah, thanks for that. That got me pretty hyped up. I can't wait for this. I loved the original Onslaught Saga, so hopefully this should be good.

My only concern is that by the looks of it it doesn't have the X-Men...? I dunno, from what I've seen/read it seems to focus more on the Heroes Reborn characters, such as the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. Considering how Onslaught came about being because of Professor X and Magneto, I'd assume it'd have the X-Men.

Still, as great as the Onslaught stuff is, my ultimate story has yet to be written... :(

Indifferent Clox 11-23-2006 04:15 PM

I asked this in the civil war thread but I guess asking here won't hurt.

Which of these should I read (and in what order) before Civil war.

I downloaded a Civil war and lead up torrent and it had these files:

Avengers Dissasembeld
House of M
Generation M
son of M
the 198
Decimination
Deadly Genesis

Boondock Saint 11-23-2006 08:44 PM

I'd say read Avengers Disassembled, House of M, Decimation, Son of M, Generation M, Deadly Genesis, The 198.

Honestly, as long as you read House of M first (the Avengers one isn't even totally necessary) you'll be fine.
