What is the most important quality in a game to you?

What makes you say "I want that?" I'm talking like gameplay, story, or graphics. Or is it the "cool facotr?" That kind of shit. What is the most important thing to you as a gamer?

Blitz 11-21-2006 09:38 PM

In terms of importance: Gameplay>story>graphics>"cool factor"

Destor 11-21-2006 09:40 PM

I didn't do mine:

Gameplay>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>story>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>graphics

Kapoutman 11-21-2006 09:55 PM

As long as I'm having enough fun, I'll buy it. The story is only important in some kinds of games, and the graphics are only secondary. Graphics are suggestive really, because some people only want graphics that look realistic, while some game are better suited by cartoony graphics. As long as it doesn't take away from the game, it's all right with me.

ClockShot 11-21-2006 09:59 PM

Game length, story, graphics. Lately, some games got the graphics and the story to be great. But are short. *coughGearsofWarcough*

Blitz 11-21-2006 10:07 PM

Don't really understand it. From what I've heard Gears Of War has great graphics and great gameplay, yet I have little to no desire to play it :o

El Fangel 11-21-2006 10:23 PM

Gameplay>Story>Controls>Replay>Graphics.

To elaborate on this.

*Gameplay - Most games I have played have to have good gameplay, they have to be fun, exciting and able to keep me playing. example God of War

*Story - The story has to be good, and make sense towards the game, for example, MGS3 which I love is based on some real happens for the plot, but makes the idea of a mobile missile launcher at the time, and its threat to the US, the idea behind the game, it was a good story and it ended good.

*Controls - Have to be smooth none jerky, and not hateful. Examples of two ones I dislike and why

R&C 2: As much as I love the game, I hate replaying it and getting used to the controls and camera system again.

Resident Evil Code Veronica X- I hate the control scheme when its like that. Enough said.

*Graphics - If these mattered at all in terms of rating a game as a favorite, none of us would likely rate any pre-2000 games as good.

and if graphics mattered to me, FF7 would not be one of my favorites.

Gameplay>Replay value > story > graphics

If you have any reservations on gameplay being more important than gameplay, just compare smackdown to fire pro. Replay value has a large factor on wether I purchase a game or just rent it.

El Fangel 11-21-2006 11:12 PM

You might want to edit that Fig, Gameplay is not more important then gameplay.

El Fangel 11-21-2006 11:12 PM

Also games for me have to be able to be replayed/enjoyed again.

bling bling

I don't get why people say that graphics don't matter. Graphics are a huge part of the game because the graphics can make normal gameplay elements more fun than they would be.

I would say gameplay, graphics, sound, story, and then probably controls.

Vietnamese Crippler 11-22-2006 12:36 AM

Gameplay and story are the two biggest factors, while graphics is very, very close behind. Anything else is moot, really.

I am strongly inclined to agree with this.

Ninti the Mad 11-22-2006 01:35 PM

I consider game longevity first. Then I would have to say story and then game controls.

Graphics dont mean too much although it is nice to have something pretty to look at.

Longevity wins overall because I am not going to buy a 60 dollar game for 8 hours of game that I can pass in one day.

I don't think people are saying that graphics don't matter. I think it's just that a game can be very enjoyable despite average graphics, while a bad game cannot be saved by good graphics.

I wasn't really meaning just in this thread but we've all heard the argument "graphics don't mean a thing" which is crazy because they do. And yes, I know what you're saying.

Destor 11-22-2006 10:27 PM

I still play Pong on a regular basis. Graphics are meaningless if the game is good.

M-A-G 11-22-2006 10:30 PM

I ask one simple question: Am I going to have fun playing this game?

Stickman 11-23-2006 04:45 PM

Like MAG I'd say is it something I"m going to have fun with. Graphics really don't mean much to me because a lot of the games that have outstanding graphics tend to bore me after awhile. I dont' need realism to enjoy myself. Look at GTA, you have so much ability to do anything you want, but it got boring really fast because most of your time is spent walking around or driving. And after I finished it I have no desire to play again.

Requiem 11-23-2006 07:49 PM

Anyone who says graphics are meaningless is kidding themselves. The only time graphics don't mean much is in the classics, because you most likely played them back when those graphics -were- good. If a new game were to come out and the graphics sucked completely, come on.. admit it. That would have a HUGE factor in wether or not you found the game to be fun.

No, graphics don't mean everything, but they mean something and they can take away the fun factor in a game if they are terrible.

V 11-24-2006 01:16 AM

being a nintendo fan graphics obviously aren't that important to me

It really depends on the type of game. If its' an RPG storyline is the most important thing to me, because that is one of the biggest parts of an RPG. For most other games, like wrestling, fighting, platformers, etc... gameplay is most important... the length of the game and replayability are important too

Fox 11-24-2006 08:50 PM

Gameplay is easily the best quality; and usually it involves a pick-up-and-play ability and multiplayer madness.

To this day, Goldeneye 007 (64) and Bomber Man (SNES) are two of my favorite all-time games, simply because they have both of those qualities in full.

No, I really don't care how it looks. If it's pretty, sweet. If it aint? Fuck it, like I care.
