Heel Benoit.

Possibly my fave backstage promo thing ever... the one when the Rock was signing an autograph for a kid, and the kid's looking at Benoit behind the Rock. Rocky has that "oh shit" look on his face just as Benoit locks him in the Crossface and the refs can't get him off.

Pure awesomeness. They booked him to be this amazingly vicious heel.

Jeritron 11-29-2006 03:00 AM

My favorite things from 2000:

The Return of Cactus Jack
The Radicals debut out of nowhere on Raw
Triangle Ladder Matches, The Hardy Boys rise to fame
Edge and Christian playing Kurt Angles theme on the kazoo
Stone Cold's return/Who hit Austin? (until they fucked it up)
The Benoit/Jericho fueds (the Dr. Suess Rhyme)
"It never happened" - Jericho wins the title
Fully Loaded- My favorite 3 emerging stars appearing to be there, classic match in Last Man Standing, unfortunately it was only temporary.
The HHH/Kurt Angle storyline
Kurt Angle celebrating with the crowd and dumping a slushie on that kids head
Kurt Angle explaining to Kaentai how King was similar to a head ninja
Kurt Angle riding out on the moped
Steph walking in on HHH and Trish in a precarious position
The phenomenon that was Too Cool and Rikishi
The one night only reformation of DX (Triple H, Chyna, The Outlaws)
"Vince created this entire company to make up for the fact he has a small penis" - Y2J
Kanes new attire
The American Badass return of Taker
Foley as commish
The Rock hosting SNL and Triple H confronting him during the intro
Tazz choking out Angle

Jeritron 11-29-2006 03:19 AM

All this prompted me to go and watch "It Never Happened" When Jericho beat HHH for the title in a reversed match.
Jesus Christ the pop still gives me goosebumps. Depresses me though...

Londoner 11-29-2006 05:11 AM

2000 was the year i started watching and it was probably the best year during the time i've watched wrestling sadly. But here's what i remember:

The Rock/hhh&mcmahons/dx feud.
TLC match at summerslam
Heel Benoit being booked as he should be booked.
HHH/cactus jack street fight
Mick Foley being the GM
Y2J at his best
Y2J/Benoit feud
The DX theme(road dogg/x-pac had a different one to the one we hear today)
Kurt Angle pissing me off by winning the WWE title as I was a mark back then..
Everything about the fully loaded/ backlash and summerslam ppv's.

I feel like i should add more but can't remember anymore atm...

I would like to watch when this happened again, anyone know when it happened, or a link a youtube or something.

Sometime in April of 2000. I was a huge mark too when that happened.

Stickman 11-29-2006 02:04 PM

Wow, way to live in the past

addy2hotty 11-29-2006 02:21 PM

Tonight-uhhh, I'm gonna beat the Game-uhhh, in the middle of the ring-uhhh, and I've got a 2-dollar slut for a wife-uhhhh!

Great moment, remember marking out like crazy for this, and the clock ticking down in the background was even better.

Chavo Classic 11-29-2006 03:37 PM

The Entire Fully Loaded PPV

Mr. JL 11-29-2006 04:29 PM

Hardys vs Dudleys Tables match from the royal rumble

Jeritron 11-29-2006 04:47 PM

The Tazz vs Triple H Title Match
After the whole fiasco with then ecw champ Mike Awesome, Vince allowed Tazz to appear in ECW and take back their belt for a while and cross promote.
I think it was a cool thing for both companys and led to a great clash between ECW Champ Tazz and WWF Champ Triple H
I marked out

AdrianM 11-29-2006 04:55 PM

Off the top of my head:

6 man HIAC with the massive rikishi bump
Rikishi, S2H and Brian Lawler being one of the most over group of ppl in the WWE.
Royal rumble
Streetfight b'ween Foley and HHH
The rise of Kurt Angle
TLC @ Summerslam
The arrival of Eddie, benoit, malenko and Saturn

Jeritron 11-29-2006 05:00 PM

I dont think its as much living in the past as appreciating it.
One of the reasons 2000 ppvs were so great was the wealth of talent in all the title scenes, and they were all tremendously over. You had Rock and Triple H in their prime, a fresh new gimmick for Taker, and 3 amazing talented, fastly climbing stars in Angle, Jericho and Benoit.
The tag division was stacked to a point it never has been and the teams were as much a draw as many of the top stars.
The midcard was in great order with Rikishi, Eddie Guerrero, the hardcore title matches and other well utilized talent

Stickman 11-29-2006 05:35 PM

BUt it was six years ago.

Jeritron 11-29-2006 05:41 PM

if you dont want to live in the past don't click on a thread titled favorite memories from the year 2000.
I'll take the past over the present in wrestling anyways.

Good point.

Disturbed316 11-29-2006 06:28 PM

The bump Angle took in his triple threat match with Rock and Triple H was sick.

Fox 11-30-2006 12:16 AM

Cactus Jack's run at the WWE Championship leading up to WrestleMania.

I haven't been that into a storyline in quite some time. I remember actually yelling at the TV when Jack lost at No Way Out... really hoped he was going to win the title and defend it at Mania....

Looking back, that's probably the way they should have gone.

Shane o'Mac & 'Which way did he go'?

I remember crying with laughter at some of that stuff.

Jericho "winning" the WWF title in 2000 the first time was the best moment ever. :y:

It wasn't even a fast count anyway.

Great moment. I'd love for them to actually have a shock thing like that now. Something like Carlito beating Cena with some sort of cheating going on.

Won't ever happen now, they don't have to shock anymore.
