10 to 20 years from now

What music from this era do you think will be looked upon as classic/great?

Examples from past generations: Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, The Who, Van Halen, Def Leppard, ETCETERA

U2 (despite me not liking them)
Jay-Z
Red Hot Chili Peppers

What do you think, bretheren

M-A-G 12-01-2006 05:49 PM

Pretty much anything from the '90s.

Buzzkill 12-01-2006 05:51 PM

not really

Buzzkill 12-01-2006 05:52 PM

see: Aqua

M-A-G 12-01-2006 05:52 PM

Why not? "Classic" stations play anything from the 80s around here whether they suck or not.

FakeLaser 12-01-2006 05:56 PM

Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Guns N' Roses (already seen as classic rock sometimes)
Radiohead
Green Day
Oasis

Maybe:
Foo Fighters
REM
Soundgarden
Rage Against The Machine
Incubus

FakeLaser 12-01-2006 05:56 PM

I guess most of that stuff is more 1990s, but yeah.

Kane Knight 12-01-2006 06:07 PM

Nothing that recent should count as a classic in 10 years. Honestly, the 80s shouldn't be a "classic" generation yet. None of those songs have really stood the test of time...Remember the 80s doesn't count.

Stickman 12-01-2006 06:59 PM

Metallica

ct2k 12-01-2006 07:02 PM

I think in 20 years time, if our kids are left to discover bands on their own they'll be directed to bands like Nirvana and Radiohead, maybe Pearl Jam, not Soundgarden, much as I love them!

Yeah, Metallica is an obvious one I missed.

It's really hard to say because this generation is so much different than any other. Indie music is so much more accessible to people now with the internet, so it's hard to say what impact underground acts will have 20-30 years down the line from now.

RP 12-02-2006 01:30 AM

Justin Timberlake

Blitz 12-02-2006 01:35 AM

Pretty sure in 10-20 years people will talk about Brand New the way people talk about The Smiths now.

Buzzkill 12-02-2006 01:36 AM

The Strokes if they put out a couple more good albums

weather vane 12-02-2006 04:08 AM

Fuckin Slayer

ct2k 12-02-2006 04:08 PM

Yeah Slayer definitely, though I can't see them quitting anytime soon anyway.

And as for AIC? Not a chance in hell, they'll be remembered fondly by plenty in our generation and people who delve a little deeper in 10-20 years time will discover them but they were never a huge band like Nirvana or any of the groups cited in the first post.

Skippord 12-02-2006 07:39 PM

AIC will be if I have anything to do with it

They said the same thing when CDs come out.

It's always "different."

I don't know, they often get compared to Led Zeppelin.

FakeLaser 12-03-2006 12:46 PM

or Deep Purple.
