Subtitles

I seriously hate watching movies that I have to read. I find reading the dialogue takes my mind away from the rest of the movie. Sure there's great movies with subtitles, but I get really frustrated. If I wanted to read the movie, I'll get the book ;)

Kris P Lettus 12-13-2006 02:16 PM

It's easy..

After like the first 10 minutes I don't even think about it..

Me and my buddy got real high and went to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon back in the day.. This stupid bitch took these two like 12 year old kids and was trying to read them the whole movie.. Ridiculous..

Avenger 12-13-2006 04:52 PM

Na, subtitled movies are awesome.

Nothing better than watching a good French cop thriller with subbies.

Destor 12-13-2006 04:55 PM

Love subtitles. It generally adds to the experience. Take Apocalypto for example...had I heard that movie I don't it would have as good. Difference in tastes I guess.

Stickman 12-13-2006 05:56 PM

Personally, when I watch a movie I liked to sit there and aimlessly stare at the screen. Reading = some sort of school stuff.

Destor 12-13-2006 05:58 PM

Where is the text in the movies you watch? For me it always comes up on the screen...

Avenger 12-13-2006 06:27 PM

clearly Stickman has some kind of mental deficiency

Funky Fly 12-13-2006 06:53 PM

I watched Crounching Tiger with subtitles and enjoyed it. Tried to watch it dubbed...awful.

Kris P Lettus 12-13-2006 07:09 PM

Dubbed is ok sometimes.. Depends on the movie.. Like, Kung Fu Hustle is ok dubbed, but for a more serious film like Crotching Tiger, it takes away from the all around feel of the movie, having fake ass voices..

Funky Fly 12-13-2006 07:26 PM

exactly.

Stickman 12-13-2006 07:30 PM

I do hate dubbed movies as the voices really suck and have no emotion.

Triple A 12-13-2006 07:32 PM

It is not that hard to read subtitles bro. They are usually like five words at a time. Stop being stupid.

And dubbed movies are disgusting. No movie should ever be dubbed. I mean if it's a ridiculous kung fu movie then it doesn't matter but not "real" movies.

Buzzkill 12-13-2006 07:36 PM

I despise dubbed movies, subtitles are fine though. After like 5 minutes I forget that I'm reading them

Yes.

Mike the Metal Ed 12-13-2006 08:43 PM

After a while of watching, I just start hearing the subtitles as if they were being spoken in the film anyway... it's like suddenly being fluent in the language.

FakeLaser 12-13-2006 08:51 PM

City of God was pretty amazing.

Shaggy 12-13-2006 10:16 PM

If the movie has subtitles then I will usually watch it twice. The first time through I will watch it with the English Voiceovers....then I will re-watch it right away with subtitles...

Just did that with District B13 and its now one of my favorite movies...

Also in a weird story to tell...

My friend purchased a bootleg copy of The Punisher and Kill Bill 2 when they came out. He took them home and the guy that sold them to him said they had subtitles on them. He turned the subtitles on and they were the subtitles to Eight Legged Freaks....it was pretty funny. The guy on the screen would say something long and smart and there in big long word on the bottom of the screen you have AHHHHHHH!!!!! SPIDERS!!!!

The Mask 12-14-2006 01:50 PM

i dont think about it. it's not any problem for me as i read pretty fast. i think dubbed adds to the experience in old kung fu movies though. "you're not fit to lick the shit off my damned asshole" indeed.

Stickman 12-14-2006 02:16 PM

Maybe I'll give it a shot. It's something I have always shyed away from since I was little. Like the minute I see subtitles I tune it out. I would guess that renting is better than going to the theatre for a subtitled movie. Give me some great subtitled movies that I should rent.

Lock Jaw 12-14-2006 03:30 PM

Oldboy.

Oddly enough I would say the opposite. I can't really watch a subtitled movie at home. Mostly becuae my eyes are bad and even on the big screen I have a hard time reading it. But I love going to the theater for a subtitled movie. I liked Hero though, also The Passion of the Christ.

Stickman 12-14-2006 04:33 PM

Ah...looks like I'll be renting Passion of the Christ.

Champion of Europa 12-14-2006 05:11 PM

Oldboy and Lady Vengeance are both kickass subtitled movies.

I perfer subtitles, personally. When I'm at home, the first time I watch a movie (in English or otherwise), I'll put on English subs so I don't miss dialogue.

The Mask 12-14-2006 05:14 PM

yeah that's something. if you put dubbed and subtitles on at the same time they usually say two complete different things

Crippla 12-14-2006 05:15 PM

The only movie I can think of that I liked with subtitles is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon which was ok.

Buzzkill 12-14-2006 07:06 PM

I ended up watching LOTR with english subtitles because i couldn't understand them half the time and it made the movie way better.

Lock Jaw 12-14-2006 07:39 PM

The only English movie I have ever turned subtitles on for was Star Wars Episode 1. Because I couldn't understand any of the aliens, or the Queen. The subtitles did not make the movie any better.
