Which series are you a Fanboy for?

Sooo, how many "fanboys" do we have on these forums? I'm talking where you go out and buy a game in a series the day it comes out, or have bought a system expressly for 1 game. (done both, unfortunately :'() I'll start:

Since I was 11 years old, I've been a blind follower of the Metroid series. I own every Metroid game created, save 1. But really, who bought those crappy Classic NES GBA ports, anyway? :nono: I have 3 copies of the original NES Metroid, and The Return of Samus has been one of the only games to make me jump in fright while playing it. Pretty much, when I buy a WII, it'll be to play Prime 3.

BTW, Please try to explain why you like the particular series, and vary it up a little. I feel like a discussion, not sitting through 5 pages of guys going

Zelda.

Zelda.

Zelda.

LOL

Suikoden
Final Fantasy
Dynasty/Samurai Warriors
Metal Gear Solid
GTA

El Fangel 12-15-2006 10:58 PM

Gta - Has everything that you could want to do when your in an outrage and the utilities to act them out with in a single games

Metal Gear Solid - every game kicked ass.

Funky Fly 12-15-2006 11:39 PM

Super Smash Bros. Only reason for me to get a Wii other than Zelda, ATM and it's not even out yet.

I don't really have any series that are more than a couple of games long, really. I do have games that I am rabid about, just not enough of them in one series.

Crippla 12-15-2006 11:40 PM

Does Madden count?

Vietnamese Crippler 12-15-2006 11:40 PM

Zelda - I mean c'mon, it's Zelda, why do I have to explain myself

Resident Evil - Always been good gameplay to me and always has a great storyline

Virtua Fighter - Easy to pick up and play (I hate Tekken because I could never figure out how to do moves)

Need for Speed (the Underground/Most Wanted/Carbon series) - I'm just a gear head :o

I can't stand Virtua Fighter. Too floaty for me. I like Tekken for it's combination of hard hitting combos, power moves, chained grabs and weak-but-effective strikes. I realize VF has most of that too, but I think it tries to do too much with its limited button configuration.

The only games that I am fanboy of (and pretty much the only games that I play) are the Legend of Zelda games. I've been hooked since I played the original as a little kid, and they've only gotten better. For the most part. Hell, I even have a Triforce tattoo. We'll see how I feel about that in 20 years, but for now I'm happy with it.

I never liked Tekken because it felt like you had to invest a lot of time into it to be able be really good at it; I like my fighting games to be easy to understand

I also enjoy Dead or Alive, much for the same reasons as VF, but I'm not really a fanboy for it.

Bad Company 12-16-2006 12:34 AM

Civilization
Sim City
Heroes of Might and Magic
Command and Conquer
Gran Turismo
EA Rugby

Kapoutman 12-16-2006 12:34 AM

Zelda - This is the reason why I speak English. I could get through the first one by simply exploring (for and entire year or so :o), but when A Link to the Past came out, I had to read what the characters were saying to get anywhere. So I picked up a French/English dictionary and started translating each words one at a time. Motivated me to be better in English, and the story was pretty good as a bonus. After that game, I was hooked.

Mario - Simply for the quality of gameplay.

Smash Bros - Just something about making my favorite characters from each series fight it out. Who would have known Dr. Mario could kick so much asses?

El Fangel 12-16-2006 01:25 AM

Good job Kapout, and if Jack Thomson is on these boards, see Video games have a positive influence to...asshole.

D Mac 12-16-2006 01:34 AM

Mortal Kombat
Castlevania
Resident Evil
Ninja Gaiden
GTA
Soul Calibur

Because they are all fun.

El Fangel 12-16-2006 01:42 AM

MK is awesome, Castlevania is cool, RE I was turned off by controls, Ninja Gaiden is good, Gta see above, and Soul Calibur/Blade best fighting game IMO

The One 12-16-2006 01:43 AM

I don't think there is or has ever been a series I have own every version of. I use to be a big fan boy of Mario, but honestly after 64, I havn't given a flying fuck about the franchise.

Actually I do own both Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2. And if they release a 3 I will probably get that within the first month or so.

There has never been a single game...ever...that I owned the first day (or first week for that matter) that it was released.

The One 12-16-2006 01:44 AM

Oh, and Need for Speed is fucking awesome. I own Underground and then Most Wanted as well...plan on getting Carbon at some point.

The One 12-16-2006 01:50 AM

OK, this got me thinking, so I went to my game collection, and I realised I have all three Metal Gear Solid games...though I only played through 2 once, and I only played 3 for like 30 minutes before I stopped playing. LOL. Maybe I should finish that game some time.

Man, If only one time in your life you listen to me. let it be now, go play MGS 3, you will not regret it.

D Mac 12-16-2006 02:02 AM

K I'm off to play MK Armageddon on my 360! :D

McLegend 12-16-2006 02:05 AM

GTA
Prince of Persia

El Fangel 12-16-2006 02:06 AM

GTA seems to be a common one for us all, although for me GTA3 sort of was a bit shitty :(

McLegend 12-16-2006 02:11 AM

GTA3 was revolutionary and is awsome game.

If you play GTA3 after Vice City and San Adreas I could see where you would think it seemed shity, but is still a tremendous game.

El Fangel 12-16-2006 02:16 AM

Tis true, I had to skip the release of GTA3 as I had no PS2 when i got one I played Vice and then GTA3, but hated the tinfoil cars, and how everything seemed so Blah. Then I got SA and

Silent 12-16-2006 02:23 AM

Warhammer. Although only the more recent games, most of the console games were pretty bad, but Dawn of War and Mark of Chaos are great, and Warhammer Online will be awesome.

Resident Evil
Devil May Cry

Weird, I feel th same way... only backwards.

Also, DoA is what VF should be, IMO. DoA is ok in my book. :y:

The One 12-16-2006 12:50 PM

DoA is freakin awesome. I never owned a XBox or a 360, but all my friends did so I played it a lot at their place.

And what's the big deal about GTA? I played Vice City and the San Andre one. They're ok. Not the greatest or anything. I regret buying Vice City before I had ever played it. The story mode sucks, and there's only so many times stealing cars is fun. :-/

Games I've ran out and bought on 1st day of release:

Final Fantasy X (along with the strategy guide & a memory card)

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection

Rumble Roses (It was technically a present)

My bro bought Dead or Alive XTreme 2 on the 1st day. Doesn't even own a 360 yet.

The Mask 12-16-2006 06:39 PM

GTA
shenmue (if it can be counted as a series yet)
mario

streets of rage and road rash are immense too, but since they were only on megadrive i dunno if they count. srsly though a new side scrolling streets of rage avec some nice graphics and more moves and stuff would be absolutely immense

Um like doing crimes you would never do in real life?

LoDownM 12-17-2006 12:36 AM

I don't see much in GTA anymore. I mean 2 was great, and 3 was great because it was the first one in 3d. But anything after that has been pretty meh.

Dorkchop 12-17-2006 01:40 AM

THQ/AKI wrestling games for N64 - Totally amazing games. I have a lot of good memories playing World Tour, but more specifically Revenge, with my exgirlfriend (and her brother). Every year I would get so excited for the new game. I could never afford them myself, so I had to wait until Christmas. I barely played any other games for my 64. It was like 85% THQ/AKI wrestling games. I never really got tired of playing them for a year straight (pretty much).

Smackdown - Up until this year, I was always pretty excited for a new Smackdown to come out. I've lost interest, and actually didn't buy 2007. There just hasn't been anything really different about the newer ones. There's always like one new feature in the game that they don't quite get right, so they improve on it next year and the year after. I'm tired of it, and want them to get something right the first time. Also, I never loved the gameplay. Smackdown 4 and 5 I really liked, and even then, I didn't love the gameplay. Smackdown 4 (Shut Your Mouth) is still my favorite in the series.

GTA - Seriously awesome games. I just can't beleive they've all been that awersome. I have no plans on getting a PS3 or 360 so, sadly, I might miss out on GTA 4.

Katamari - I never played the PSP, but after playing Katamari Damacy, I became a fanboy. I seriously loved that game like no other game. It was awesome. I got all excited when I heard a second one was coming out. I've heard the Katamari games are done, but I'm hoping they were just rumours. The PS3 and more specifically Wii are perfect comsoles for Katamari games.

Now (Other than Katamari, which I heard might be done) I don't really have one particular series. I could say "Nintendo" GBA/DS in general. I've bought quite a few Nintendo produced DS games the day of release, or a few days, or a week or so after. Most of it isn't because I'm a fanboy... more of "I have some money, want a new game, why not get 'this' when it comes out".

I never had an Xbox either, but my brother did. He brought it over sometimes, and we played a lot of DoA.

My opinion on GTA is completely different. There was a lot more to do than just steal cars. San Andreas especially. I love stealing cars, picking up hookers, doing them, then beating them with a bat and taking my money back.

Funky Fly 12-17-2006 01:56 AM

Yeah, THQ's N64 games, I was a huge fanboy for.

Crippla 12-17-2006 09:17 AM

I'm also a fan of GTA but I don't own every game.

CSL 12-17-2006 12:29 PM

<font color=white>Pro Evolution Soccer - When will people just realize FIFA will never touch this? Ever.

Madden - Self explanitory. So much longevity.

Warcraft - Since Warcraft 2 I've been in love with it. Loved the storyline immensely, and at the time I was big on RTS games so it fit. WC3 was ridiculously good, and TFT is pretty much the best RTS alive. Bar none. Oh and this little game named World of Warcraft is kinda cool. But I love the Warcraft lore, pretty much what got me into the whole fantasy thing.

Megaman - The sidescrolling platform series. I like Mario as much as anyone but man, Megaman is the best ever. Plus it has the best music from any video game series alive. Flash Man <3

Final Fantasy - Kinda obvious choice here. If you haven't at least played one FF game you're not really a gamer. Sorry.

Zelda - The first Zelda on NES was amazing, like most addicting thing I've ever seen. Unfortunately I had an NES, and like everyone else knows NES's were retarded and my game would like crash every time I went into any shops, so I couldn't buy a few of the items in the game. I never beat the cartridge version so I never actually beat the game till I played it on a ROM, and then again on the re-release on the Gamecube version that came with OoT etc. Zelda 2 had a lot of nostalgia for me too 'cause it was just one of those games I always had and I loved it. And every Zelda since then has been awesome. Ocarina of Time is the best N64 game ever made too, obvs.

Metroid - omg Super Metroid is like my favourite game ever. So fun to explore and find everything in there. When Metroid Prime came out I loved it so hard. So so hard. M y sister's Gamecube broke when I was a bit through MP2 so I've yet to beat that, but once I get a Wii I'ma go through it again.
