Thunderlips/Balboa to be signed for Mania this Monday!?

Just kidding, Sly's gonna be on RAW...

WWE.com has learned that on a special three-hour edition of Raw that begins at 8/7 CT, "Rocky Balboa" star Sylvester Stallone will make a rare appearance this Monday night and grant WWE an exclusive interview. What will the hard-hitting celeb have to say on this unprecendented and historic occasion?

Also, one Superstar will earn the opportunity to take on John Cena for the WWE Championship. In the biggest Battle Royal in Raw history, the Raw Superstars will compete in hopes that they’ll emerge victorious to challenge Cena for his title.

Cena has been on a roll the past few weeks, and is anxiously awaiting his upcoming matches with K-Fed on Jan. 1 and Umaga at New Year’s Revolution… but will he be entering those two matches as the WWE Champion?

Watch all the action of the special three-hour edition of Raw this Monday night at 8/7 CT on the USA Network.

...You know, I wouldn't put it past Vince to actually sign Sly/Hogan to a boxing match at Mania now that I think about it. I could see him pay him like $2mil for five rounds...

addy2hotty 12-16-2006 10:42 PM

So Balboa gets in the ring, and announces that he's going to enter the 30 man Battle Royal.

Rocky battles hard and wins, eliminating Little Bastard last.

In the final match, Rocky seems set to defeat Cena, but Ivan Drago interferes costing Rocky the match. This sets up the dream Wrestlemania match. Rocky vs Drago 2.

Meanwhile, Clubber Lang joins JR and The King for commentary.

JR - 'Clubber, what do you think the audience are making of tonights historic Raw?'

Lang - 'Pain.'

Now this is a real dilemma. On one hand it's Rocky. On the other, he'll be on for five minutes and I'll have to sift through another 175 of garbage to get there.

Crippla 12-17-2006 09:50 AM

I love Rocky as much as everyone else which is why I'm going to see the movie but I don't watch wrestling to see him. He shouldn't be taking up 5 minutes of a wrestling show where I could be seeing a wrestling match or at least a promo that will add to storylines. This just seems like a desperate attempt to get more viewers by using a celebrity.

The MAC 12-17-2006 10:16 AM

remember when WCW started bringing in celebs? :shifty:

Crippla 12-17-2006 10:20 AM

Shit, I posted this and didn't see this thread. My bad.

Chavo Classic 12-17-2006 10:43 AM

To be honest, feds have been doing this for years, whether it's Andy Kauffman, Chuck Norris or K-Fed. You know it's over when you make one of them your champion .

St. Jimmy 12-17-2006 10:47 AM

Hey, if they had given Kauffman the WWE title, I'd have ate that shit up.

ron the dial 12-17-2006 12:33 PM

Yes! Five minutes wasted to hype a movie that I don't even want to see!

Lock Jaw 12-17-2006 01:41 PM

FINALLY, THE ROCK HAS COME BACK TO.... MONDAY NIGHT!

Normal Is Me 12-17-2006 01:58 PM

It would be funny if Sylvester Stalone stayed in his Rocky Balboa character for the interview. DON'T BREAK KAYFABE

i dunno. Stallone could probably get over as WWE Champion Rocky Balboa.

ron the dial 12-17-2006 02:07 PM

I see where Vince is going with this. Rocky is the only man capable of taking down Cena. Underdog vs. Superman. Wrestlemania 23. WWE Title. Yeah, baby.

Gray 12-17-2006 02:12 PM

A Boxing match on Boxing Day?

Londoner 12-17-2006 02:26 PM

Doesn't it say how bad a state the WWE is in when they're using celebs instead of their own wrestlers to get ratings? I would feel insulted if i were a WWE wrestler tbh.

Two words: WrestleMania One.

Londoner 12-17-2006 04:00 PM

^ Dunno what happened there but that was the first WM so you can understand that, but these days they shouldn't need these celebs.

Two Words: WrestleMania, Tyson.

It has been a long tradition since the first WrestleMania to bring in celebrities. Hell, even ECW did it with Kurt Angle.

Off the top of my head, the WWE has used the following:

Liberace (not in a storyline, granted)
Tyson
Mr. T
Lawrence Taylor

Plus a shitload more.

Love this quote -

Apollo Creed - "This is what I'm looking for. 'The Italian Stallion.'...Look, it's the name, man. 'The Italian Stallion.' The media'll eat it up. Now who discovered America? An Italian, right? What would be better than to get it on with one of his descendants...Southpaw, nuthin'. I'll drop him in three. APOLLO CREED MEETS THE ITALIAN STALLION. Sounds like a damn monster movie."

WWE writers, take note.

Ok i didn't realise it was that many, only knew about Tyson but that one i could understand. Its when they start bringing in shite celebs like k-fed that i don't get it.

Fox 12-18-2006 01:00 AM

It's just business for McMahon and K-Fed/Stallone. Cross promotional advertising. In this case, McMahon is using K-Fed's quickly dwindling celebrity gossip magazine fame and trying to bring in more fans for a match with the champ Cena, while K-Fed is shilling for his crappy rap album, that didn't sell for shit, I might add.

Stallone, of course, is trying to get people to go see his movie. We may not really like it, and would probably rather enjoy a segment featuring some good wrestling instead of a Stallone interview we could probably see on a talk show somewhere else, but it's all about what McMahon wants to do on his show.

Maybe DX will show up and we'll see some Rocky crotch chops. "YO ADRIAN! SUCK IT!"

Okay why does everyone have such a big problem with this?

It draws attention to WWE, many draws in some non-wrestling fans, who knows RAW might pick up some new regular fans? They're simply trying to creep back into the mainstream to get more ratings and make more money. I know it's hard to understand why a company would actually want to make money, but trust me, it's kind of an accepted principle.

I have no problem with this. He is a huge star. K-Fed on the other hand is a talentless nobody who was good to use for an episode of RAW, but to use him over and over again? Yes, that is a waste of airtime as they have squeezed as much possible publicity out of K-Fed as they are going to.

Having Sly on RAW is a huge publicity coup for WWE. Hell, he hasn't even done Letterman yet, in fact I think he's only done Conan. So for him to be on RAW is pretty huge.

All anybody here is capable of doing, though, is jumping all over anything the WWE does.

"OMGGGG!! WTF?! ThEY'RE USING RocKIE BALBoa?! WHAT R THEY DOINGG, Trying To gET Rat1ngs or sumfin?!"

Avenger 12-18-2006 11:16 AM

And guys, all this "we may not like it and would rather see some decent wrestling" stuff is pointless. WWE is not trying to market their product towards us. It's a sad thing but it will always be this way. So get used to more backstage segments with shitty acting, shorter crappy matches and stupid characters that appeal to the great unwashed of unenlightened non-Internet wrestling fans because that is the way it is always going to be. For people who think WWE is going to get better, sorry :Meh:

Disturbed316 12-18-2006 11:42 AM

WTF they killed off Adrian

Avenger 12-18-2006 11:52 AM

Yeah, fucking frigid.

DAMN iNATOR 12-19-2006 03:09 PM

Speaking of celebs, who was the comedian playing 'Dubya' during the Cryme Tyme segment last night? The guy in photo 30 on http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/photos/?
