WWE (Magazine) takes shot at Kurt Angle, compares him to Lex Luger, Macho Man
Thanks to Joe Arcurio for the following. ... I was flipping through the January 2007 issue of WWE Magazine (which is actually a decent magazine now), and they have an awards section for 2006. They gave Kurt Angle the "Good Riddance Award". And underneath his picture it says, "What's the best way to re-invent yourself? Walk out at the peak of your career! Worked wonders for Lex Luger and Randy Savage."

 That's too funny. Good zing, WWE.
|
Lex Luger and Randy Savage were certainly not at the peak of thier careers when they left WWE. WWE sounds a little bitter there.
|
Well, they certainly weren't at their lowest points when they left.
|
Savage was a ring announcer. That's kind of low, don't you think?
And Luger was in a tag team wrestling Jacob and Eli Blu on PPV. Yea |
Both Savage and Luger became World champions of the highest rated wrestling company on TV after leaving the WWE, and were able to finish their careers in main event spots earning a ton of money.
Yeah, it DID work for them. |
But.... didn't they release him....
|
Would hardly call this the peak of Kurts career.
|
Luger and Savage walked out on WWE like Angle. lol @ WWE
|
I wish some top WWE guy would pull a Luger and just show up on Impact the same week after he was on a WWE show. It would be the greatest.
Edit: forgot Impact was still taped. :( Well when they go live then. |

lol yea, they did. That makes this guy look like more of a tard.
|
This whole joke is on whoever tried to take that cheap shot, its embaressing to say the least.

And to my knowledge back then there weren't all kinds of red tape and no compete clauses and stuff. So I guess technically someone like Rob Van Dam or whoever COULD quit WWE today and show up on TNA tomorrow. But there'd be all kinds of consequences and lawsuits and the taping probably wouldnt get aired. |

TNA does the same shit multiple times a week (on their programming). So then wouldnt the joke be on them? |

That doesn't exactly make WWE look any better though. They could try to be the better 'man' or company in this case, but they don't, and its just typical of how things are these days. |
But technically they do. They never respond to challenges, jabs, shoots, skits, and threats from TNA.
I see what you're saying but I think this is an isolated incident of one writer taking a shot at a guy whos done entire shoot interviews about WWE, and I dont think its really that bad all things considered. Very few people will actually read or understand it anyways. |
haha, people buy the magazines.
|
WWE magazine? C'mon now. I'm gonna have to stand by my assumption that very few people will read this tidbit, at least compared to those who would hear something said prominently in primetime television programming.
|
LOL at the burn, and at the fact that it makes WWE look like idiots.
|
WWE burned themselves.....how clever of them!
|
WWE can only dream of having someone of Angle's quality at the level he was a few years ago, and he was as loyal as hell to them until they released him.
|
lol even though the jab made WWE look stupid, I like these jabs. I don't know why, it makes wrestling just so much funner.
|
I agree. A jabs a jab I mean jeez it happens. Theres been worse jabs than this by WWE, WCW, TNA, and ECW.
|
Kurt Angle was working on WWE's C-Brand Show...
Randy Savage was working as an announcer... Les Lugar was doing usless team ups... THEN Kurt is in the main fued that the entire company is being based around... Savage made millions and millions of dollars and got a porn star as a rebound... Lugar beat Hogan for the WCW Title, and stayed in a company that paid him millions. (Sometimes I think WWE doesn't realise they arn't the end all be all...) |
good riddance award? How bout 'gues we shouldnt have treated u like shit ' award

In all fairness, Kurt was only on the C-brand show because of how big a star they knew/thought he was and they wanted him to carry it.
And though I agree that Vince can be very undunderstanding of family and injuries since work is his main priority, some of the things Kurt Angle rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, to say that he was being held back and not given "a run" is exaggerated and pales in comparison to guys like RVD, Jericho, Booker, Christian and dozens and dozens of others. The truth of all things like this seem to always lay somewhere inbetween each side of the story |
The ridiculous thing to me is that he was a World Champion at the beginning of the year and was never really beat one-on-one for the title. "Good riddance" to arguably the best wrestler on the SmackDown!/ECW rosters (from a mark's viewpoint, I mean).
Plus, they're saying Kurt's in the "peak of his career"? Wouldn't that kind of make TNA seem even better to anyone that hears about it and hears/sees that Kurt Angle is in it? |

what they could have said was angle is bret heart going to wcw that is more what they think he is.

Do anyone aside from fanboys read WWE magazine? It's another way for them to burn TNA without mentioning them, relegate Angle to jobber status, and so on. I mean, sure, it doesn't have shit to do with the truth, but when has WWE ever dealt with that?

Who cares either way. I dont even see how it makes the WWE look stupid, its a shitty jab that very limited people will even see. It certainly doesnt make them look good, but I'm just saying.
I'd also be curious how many people who have criticized this comment were posting "good riddance, good for you go break your neck, i can't wait til kurt dies" and so on, no less than 3 months ago. |

I'm sure they wont be showing up a week later though. WWE has no compete clauses and shit so there'll be some time period between their last WWE appearance and their first TNA appearance.
Plus TNA wouldn't debut them that way anyways, they'd most likely run vignettes, make the annoucnement and use it to hype up ratings or buyrates for the debut. This is all assuming any of those guys go to TNA. I think RVD will, but not Benoit or Rey. Who knows though. |
