When the fans learned of Lita's affair with Edge and then later McMahon re-hired Matt Hardy to fight Edge. I think they eventually had a "Loser Leaves Raw" match in which Matt lost and went to Smackdown! which he is still there today botching moves.

yeah what Inno said. He was more of a whiney heel back then

then the whole Lita thing made the fans hate him as a person. But he became a more serious heel after this. He also made his hair shorter which looks more main event, imo for him
