Thats a good question, and I always wanted to know why too.

He wasn't happy with his role in the company during the nineties so when he got an offer from Bischoff and Co. (at the behest of Hogan I believe) he took it. Vince evidentally wasn't cool with that. That and the rumor about him being the one who took Steph's virginity certainly didn't help matters. (Although she'd have been HELLA underaged) He's also not the best person you'd call "in great mental health".
