So The Masterlock...(SPOILERS)

...was broken by a random soldier over in Iraq?

Wow. Just....wow. After all of that build up. I appreciate the whole tribute to the troops thing, but what a way to end the Masterlock streak. Granted, there was some help from JBL, but still. Wow.

Jura 12-25-2006 11:05 PM

I think his name is Sergeant Joe Avilar. He looked so small face to face with Masters.

Vastardikai 12-25-2006 11:05 PM

You know, if he added a Body Scissors to the Masterlock, it'd be the most painful hold... EVER.

Heh, Regal could have broken it with his knee trick, and it would have looked cool as shit.

Fignuts 12-25-2006 11:11 PM

Yeah that sounds about right for the current wwe train of thought.

McLegend 12-25-2006 11:14 PM

Who cares.

It's a show for the armed forecs and it was broken cheaply.

It won't mean anything.

Vastardikai 12-25-2006 11:18 PM

Calling it now. They're gonna sign Avilar after his stint in the Army ends, and Vince'll release about 3 good workers to pay for him.

Azriel 12-25-2006 11:48 PM

Since when was JBL a good guy?

Pepsi Man 12-26-2006 12:07 AM

You guys want some cheese?

Destor 12-26-2006 12:30 AM

I liked it.

Shadow 12-26-2006 01:03 AM

A solider did it?

Doesn't count.

Giving that the Masterlock Challenge was originally used on "average people" explain to me your logic here.

Destor 12-26-2006 01:24 AM

Please.

M-A-G 12-26-2006 02:38 AM

Well that's B.S.

M-A-G 12-26-2006 02:39 AM

Although it's been pretty evident that they don't want to do anything meaningful with Masters anyway so whatever.

Londoner 12-26-2006 04:02 AM

Typical.

Gray 12-26-2006 07:30 AM

Im sure i have seen a few Masterlock attempts which ended in disqualification, Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels stick out in my mind for some reason.

So, with this in tow, isnt interference classed as disqualification? Oookey...

Would have been better if it wasnt billed as the first Masterlock break, but hohum - Maybe Masters will come to Smackdown to gain revenge on JBL i wonder?

Crippla 12-26-2006 09:48 AM

My guess is that Masters will push the fact that no one has ever cleanly broken the Masterlock. I think it was a good way to respect the troops to have them actively participate in the show tbh.

ClockShot 12-26-2006 09:52 AM

I could care less about the Masterlock challenge. I see Punk and Benjamin one on one and I figured that would be a good way to end '06. But nope.:nono:

You speak as if it's an actual athletic competition as opposed to just a sideshow attraction outside of the normal show. In those previous ones you mentioned the hold still wasn't broken.

Yeah, that's usually how they keep someone going on a "streak" but still lose. They were never beaten cleanly, never pinned/submit (but was DQed, counted out or wasn't pinned in a 3+ man match), etc.

Corkscrewed 12-26-2006 02:59 PM

Remember, Masters is getting buried for not taking steroids anymore.

Duh.

Volchok 12-26-2006 05:18 PM

Somone already broke the Masterlock, Watch the bonus disk for WM21. Someone breaks it in the preshow battle royal.

Splaya 12-26-2006 06:55 PM

Masters could just blow it off and just say that no WWE superstar has broken the Masterlock, or that he broke it just to give the troops some morale because of the trash they are living in or fighting to protect

Splaya 12-26-2006 06:59 PM

Plus I think this could be great for Masters as it gives them a reason to insert him into a program with JBL for Wrestlemania, and instead of Kennedy fighting JBL, Kennedy can go compete in the MITB match

You didn't need that middle sentence. :D

Mr. Nerfect 12-27-2006 04:06 AM

Yeah, this could be good or bad. If it advances Masters' character, good, if not, bad, just bad. I mean, what's more respectful to the troops, acknowledging their show as more than just a house show filmed for publicity, or treating them like meaningless throwaway pawns?

I think the best way to save this, is to have Masters come out on RAW, and talk about how he wouldn't have had his hold broken if it weren't for JBL, and then have him give a Masterlock Challenge, and out comes Harry Smith, who proceeds to break the hold.

Bad habit of the WWE: Heel commentators/wrestling legends are treatedt as faces for no logical reason at all.

Kane Knight 12-27-2006 08:40 AM

Hey, didn't this happen last year or the year before, or something VERY similar?

I watched it and the only time someone came close to breaking it was when it was Masters and Booker T. Thing is the masterlock wasn't completely locked in so you can't consider it to be broken in that battle royal cause it was never fully applied.

Kane Knight 12-27-2006 10:15 AM

If "it's broken when it's not fully applied" counts, then it's been broken several times.

They were probably betting on the fact very few of their fans actually watched the show. It was Christmas day afterall.

.44 Magdalene 12-27-2006 01:22 PM

I would think it wouldn't count, if JR hadn't nearly had an aneurism over "BAHGAWD THE MASTERLOCK HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EVER." Much like the DX situation, Jim removed all doubt by selling it like he was on fire.

Afterlife 12-27-2006 01:49 PM

Which is something he didn't sell very well when it actually happened, come to think of it. What a backward sum bitch.

Jeritron 12-27-2006 01:51 PM

I'd be more upset that John Cena broke it than a troop. They should have saved it for a troop haha.
