Two homos having a pointless arguement on page 2
I've ripped on J.R. here quite a bit.(It was I who sparked the "xxxxx isn't made of chocolate!" craze) but JR is still leagues above Taz.
The guy stumbles over every other sentence, and sometimes cant even think of anything to finish his sentence, so cole has to finish it for him. He also randomly breaks out into showtunes. Terrible. |
Evertime he says "Big time ups..." I want to stab him in the throat.
|
"Wine em, Dine em, 6 1 9 em"
Just with that he makes up for any shortcomings. |
Not for nuthin, but dis thread is a real rocketbustah!
|
I always wanted to smack him everytime he said "HERE COMES THE PAIN!" whenever Brock came out. I know the pain is coming, sir, I don't need you to point out the obvious. Other than that, I don't see a problem with him. Well there's also his need to enforce his brand's 'superiority'.
|
He does get seriously annoying at times I have to admit.
|
Yes, he is terrible. But when you have him next to Michael Cole he doesn't sound so bad.
|
I used to Mark out for his ECW promos.
|
I find him entertaining, some of the annoying and stupid shit he says comes off funny.
|
Yeah, and so it figures YOU would find it enjoyable.
|
Because he humorously can't say expositionist. I mean expeditionist.
SHE LIKES TO TAKE HER CLOTHES OFF! |
At least he has the element of new school. JR and King are very funny, but they're certainly old school. It's cool to hear from someone whos a former noteworthy wrestler who has some charisma. And though I agree he sounds like a meat head at times, its nice to see him genuinely excited about wrestling.
I love how Tazz genuinely marks out sometimes, like to Undertaker or Hogan entrances, or at wrestlemanias, or to a great match like Benoit/Angle. Him and Cole were a damn good team, and I also liked when Tazz joined JR and King for a 3-announcer team at split brand events and stuff. |
Another cool thing I didn't add about Tazz, he doesn't neccesarily play the heel or face at the booth. He just plays a former wrestler who still loves wrestling, and yes sometimes he acts stupid but its cool that he just plays it down the middle and doesn't do the "I root for heels and puppies" or "I root for faces and/or Austin" bit, which has gotten a bit stale.

They've had, semi-recently, Layfield, who's gold, Styles, who's gold but usually buried in shit (ewwww, caked on Lawler!), and Heyman (And that'[s going back a while) who was gold. Tazz is also more competent than a lot of people, which makes him more tolerable. Problem is, he's next to Styles, and he sounds like a gibbering idiot. |

Tazz is awful. But Ross is much worse nowadays.
|
Cole is the easy choice for worst announcer, tho.
|
Even over Coachman?
|
I hate it when he goes, "whoa whoa whoa whoa!" like in EVERY MATCH

Easily worse than West. Easily. The only commentator who gives Cole a run for his money is Lita.
|
Yea I always thought he kinda sucked. When he acts as a heel he's good though.
|
Except when he yells when Little Bastard comes out. He's gold then. :) (Cole)

Infact, I go so far as to say Don West might make my top 10 worst things about Professional Wrestling...in any catagory...ever... Now on to the topic at hand; Tazz. He is pretty bad, but I think I would take Tazz over mordern day JR. He's annoying as fucking hell, but something about him is charismatic on the mic...even if he has only 10 phrases used over and over... "I've been in the ring with him, he's tough." "Whoa. Whoa. Whoa! WHOA!" "Here comes the pain." (Doesn't use without Lesnar) "Big Time Ups." "Not For Nothin'." "Wine 'Em, Dine 'Em, 6-1-9 'Em" (I fucking HATED that one) And his never ending quest to get the word exabitionist out. |

Ehhh, more or less.
West is terrible, but his over-the-topness and frequent mistakes ocassionally makes me laugh. With Cole I just sit there like :| |
DIE BLITZ!

Tazz isn't a great commentator, he's not horrible, though. It's got to be tough being out there for an hour and put over matches under the WWE style. When you really look at it, Tazz is the third best announcer the WWE has. I still think they should do a commentator trade. Have Joey Styles and JBL work together. They'd blend so well. The best play-by-play guy in the WWE, and the best colour commentator in the WWE. They also have different personalities, and it's easy to see that working to their advantage. Styles and Layfield would be the best possible team the WWE could have. Michael Cole and Tazz just worked together. They just did. On ECW, Cole gets to be live. In other words, the move from SmackDown! to ECW can be looked at as a promotion. The WWE are obvious big on him, so why not? He only has to talk for an hour, and they can justify it by saying the WWE wanted a more "sports entertainmenty" commentator for the new vision of ECW. Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler are just awful, but I guess we just have to accept they will be around forever. Well, another year at least. By then ECW will probably fold, and Michael Cole could be brought to RAW with Tazz, and they'll likely have a three-way commentating team. I know it's impossible to really predict, and it seems a little odd, but I see it working, in a weird sort of way. After all, the WWE is punishing Josh Mathews for whatever reason. Why the fuck they don't have Josh Mathews work Heat is beyond me. |
No idea how anyone can think tazz is better than Ross, even in his current state.
|
He's not. Ross is not a bad announcer, well now he kind of is because he fucks up but he's still not bad really.

Pettengill was a TV host/interviewer, not a commentator. He very, very rarely called matches, much like Gene Okerlund.
|
Why is Taz being compared to JR in this thread? They have different roles. Taz is a colour guy and JR is a play by play guy. Taz should be compared to King not JR. So with that said, Taz is way better than King. Discuss.

I agree about King. It only seems to work for me when there is a heel and face announcer type thing.
|
Another reason people might just like Tazz.....they loved him as a Wrestler, which doesn't have much bearing on why he should be considered a good announcer but it certainly must be the determining factor for many.

Hmmm...Nah. I'm probably just thinking too far outside the box. |
Tazz doesn't seem right away from Cole.
Styles doesn't seem right without... say, a Cyrus or a Heyman as the color announcer (without Heyman, we wouldn't have had "GORE! GORE! GOOOOOORE!") JBL is gold, and works well alongside Michael Cole (who has gotten WAY better over the years). JR and King... have both been in decline. King has gotten less annoying over the years but it's strange to hear him not totally kiss the asses of every heel that comes through the ramp. He also isn't like, trashing John Cena, which the 6-year-ago King would have DEFINITELY done when Cena did something like insult Lita, for example. JR, though. I put in a tape of WW(F) from 6 years back, and the decline is definitely present. It might be because he's had to call a lot of CRAP, being on Raw. Coachman...would be a cool announcer, if he wasn't playing heel. |
