Yo help (Adware related)
 

Got some adware on my comp. Keep getting random pop ups for virus protection shits and getting security alerts on my taskbar. I've scanned with both Avast and Ad-Aware, and nothing was found.

Good news and bad news. Good news is that I don't see anything harmful there. Bad news is that it didn't help trying to find the problem. Feel free to delete HijackThis if you want.

What kind of virus protection is it advertising or what are the security warnings like?

You might also try downloading NOD32 antivirus. It's the best antivirus out there in my opinion, followed by Kaspersky, to see if you can find it. A more in depth adware program might be worth a try as well. Spyware Doctor is a good choice as it usually finds a lot but I don't like to keep it around because of its somewhat large file size, at least for an adware program.

I have this constant system alert on the taskbar. If I click it, it takes me to a website for an anti virus program called AntiVermins. Also getting some random warnings about trojans and worms that advise to install a bunch of different virus protection programs.

First, try this: http://www.anti-spyware-101.com/remove-antivermins/ There is a download on that page that will scan for the AntiVermins spyware and tries to remove it. Hopefully that will work. You should also try downloading Spyware Doctor and running a scan with it. Apparently it will also detect it and, of course, all the other crap.

Running it now. It's already detecting the antivermins stuff. Thanks for the help :y:

Sometimes it will pick up things Ad-Aware misses on my computer.

Nice. Spend an hour scanning with it then find out I need to pay in order to remove the crap :|

I use Windows Defender, and surprisingly it's the best one I've tried yet. Never had any problems, never will.

When that happened to me before, I would simply back everything up, format the hard drive, and start over again. I've had to do that several times actually, before I learned and ditched IE, installed Spyware/Adware programs right off the bat before I could even access the Internet, and installed an anti-virus.

Yeah thinking about formatting and starting over. I'd like to avoid that if at all possible tho.

I know what safe mode is. I just don't quite understand the part about disabling the system restore.

I've looked through Windows help, but it hasn't helped much.

Right click my computer, click system restore, turn it off. Uninstall any spyware from add/remove programs first if you can, Restart into safe mode, scan and remove everything with spybot search and destroy, ms windows defender, and lavasoft adaware, untils thers nothing left, restart in normal mode, scan again just to be sure until there's nothing left. Restart. Then enable System Restore again.

That should work

Right I've just done what BC suggested, and the damn system alert is STILL THERE. I scanned twice with 3 different programs and found nothing.

The damn alert was even still there when I started in safe mode.

Here you go, I suggest trying the Auto fix first, then the manual one if worst comes to worst. As it says, Print it out if you can.

Did you try this? Or will I have to kill you?

I will try it out. But it's not Spywarequake, it's Antivermins.

God fucking damnit, I will. But I found another topic on that forum regarding the correct virus, so I will use that one.
