I'm very open minded when it comes to music and I don't really "hate" anything. However, there is one music genre I don't listen to: this whole new rock thing.

I dunno what the proper name for it is, but it's this big genre of bands like Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight, The Datsons, The Hives, Fall Out Boy etc...

I'm not one of those people where it's a case of "it's mainstream and I hate mainstream music". There really is no limit to music that I like, but this one genre just never appealed to me.

Are Fallout Boy supposed to be "New Rock?" I always thought they were supposed to be "emo," "punk" or "nonsense."

The Hives actually annoy me a lot, simply because their songs all sound like organic techno...Just boring looped canned music.

I dunno what Fall Out Boy are... it's just an example I'm using... all these bands in general, I could list more if required.

So for that, they are awesome.

Wouldn't it make more sense to stick to bands you know are, you know, actual examples?

No no no, you misunderstand. I've heard FOB, I just don't know what genre of music they are actually classed as.

Basically anything one would find on MTV2 right now...except Ashlee Simpson of course. The way she outwits the officers of the law for her underage one keg party in the smash hit 'La La' by taking it to a laundramat shows lateral party planning not often seen in pop videos, or life in general for that matter.

Basically everyone Naitch said. Can't stand this emo shit.

Everybody stated so far but I'll throw in Blink 182.

Fall Out Boy and Panic! - actually, every band the Naitch listed - are about as emo as Boyz II Men.

Anyway.

Jet and Wolfmother are both terrible. They are like celebrations of mediocrity. I could also never ever get into Jebediah, as the singer's voice made me want to die.

Also, Yothu Yindi.

And the Hilltop f*cking Hoods.

The emo shit was just a suggestion for the whole genre. Fallout Boy and Panic are emo though, the rest of them he listed weren't so much. Still terrible though. There is a lot of terrible rap that I could list too.

I would call Fall Out Boy 'emo' as it doesn't sound very different. They suck anyway.

What is called emo today is. The origins of the genre tho, I wouldn't necessarily say that.

Well, I'm not even sure if the genre is actually called emo tbh but Fall Out Boy is a great example of the shit I've been talking about.

Bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! are pop punk/powerpop bands that are listened to by most people who listen to bands like the ones I listed above. The point is, there are different styles of music that are included in the emo scene, and that simply saying that emo sucks cause you think Fall Out Boy sucks is ignorant. This argument can be translated for every genre of music like rap, country, and metal; but I'm gonna argue in favor for emo because it is what I prefer to listen to over everything else.

I'm not saying I think emo sucks because of one band. There is a good and bad of every genre imo. I've heard a lot of this pop/punk/emo/whatever you wanna call it music lately though and it honestly sounds the same to me. I guess it's just not my kind of music.
