Don West announces TNA two hour special on 2/12

According to The Wrestling Observer, Don West announced on his Nashville radio show today that the TNA would indeed be having a two-hour Spike TV special on February 12, the same night when WWE Monday Night Raw is preempted due to the Westminster Dog Show. West stated that the two-hour show would feature five matches from recent PPV events, so it won't feature any new content as of the latest word. In addition, West also discussed the possibility of TNA holding it's Slammiversary PPV this June in Nashville (which marks TNA's 5th year anniversary).

Y2J Y2J Y2J!

Too much to hope for. Samolian Joe vs Angle?

Crippla 01-25-2007 08:13 PM

It's just recent PPV matches apparently but I guess it was smart to do it when Raw gets preempted.

Xero 01-25-2007 08:14 PM

Well if West is announcing it solo I ain't watching that shit.

Mr. JL 01-25-2007 09:47 PM

I think they should actually have a show instead of just highlights from their Pay Per Views. I mean, TNA fans will turn into TNA no matter what. *Insert TNA tard joke here* And since casual WWE RAW viewers won't have a show to watch and wrestling fans are idiots who can't remember that RAW will be pre-emptied anyways... they'll be channel surfing and could stumble upon TNA Impact! It's not RAW but if TNA delivers it could get them interested.

RVDmark 01-25-2007 10:04 PM

I have to say that TNA not putting on a show with anything new on it that night seems like a real waste of their first 2 hour primetime shot. Especially on Monday Night. Its should mark the waging of the TNA war by introducing something new / surprising / exciting on the only night of the week wrestling fans care about. Use it to further storylines with all that time for longer matches, thoughtful promos with feeling, bring in the Rock:) . Ok maybe not the last part about the Rock but it seems such a waste to use it to show repeat matches.

Xero 01-26-2007 09:06 AM

It makes it even worse that they tape on Mondays. They could show it live and test that out as well.

KingofOldSchool 01-26-2007 09:16 AM

They should test going 2 hours head-to-head.

6to1 01-27-2007 11:07 AM

well it is good for us who have'nt baught there ppv's in awhile. on don west idon't know why spike likes him so much they let him do promos for other shows and there bond thing.

Xero 01-27-2007 11:14 AM

James Bond is just BIZAARRRREEEEEE!

Am I the only one picturing him shaking his head with his tongue out while saying that?

M-A-G 01-27-2007 12:31 PM

Yeah this idea is kind of stupid. Nitro was able get a huge jumpstart when it debuted because of original programming, a live feed, and some surprises. Raw being pre-empted also didn't hurt. TNA really doesn't have much of a clue about anything outside its own little world there.

6to1 01-27-2007 12:54 PM

i wonder when they are going to start tapeng raw again, since they don't have to do live shows anymore.

Kane Knight 01-27-2007 01:57 PM

A live 2 hour show on Monday, when wrestling fans are missing out due to the dog show, would be the smart way to go. Replayed PPV matches with no real hype might be good for the few people who are so inclined to watch TNA but haven't watched PPVs, but otherwise, unimpressive.

Jeritron 01-27-2007 04:58 PM

I say its a wise decision, the people who've seen those matches are already TNA fans. They're trying to bring in new ones, and showing your best matches on free TV to get people hooked isn't exactly a bad idea. Though I'd prefer a new/live show, to people who don't watch or even know of TNA and see those matches its the same thing only better, they dont know whether its live or taped nor do they care, its just wrestling on TV. So yea, I'd do what they're doing.

Kane Knight 01-27-2007 05:34 PM

Isn't that what they're doing? Their best matches on free TV? Only in this case, people know it's a re-run?

Jeritron 01-27-2007 05:40 PM

Yea, smarks and TNA fans know its a re-run. Its brand new to people who havent seen it before, which is who they're aiming for.

Kane Knight 01-27-2007 06:13 PM

*smacks forehead*

So they're going to present it as all new footage and casual fans won't know it's new?

Jeritron 01-27-2007 06:18 PM

I was just referring to the casual idiot who flips through and stops on it and doesn't know whether its new or not, but likes what they see.

Xero 01-27-2007 06:19 PM

I am aware of that.

And oh how I envy the casual fan.

*Clutches Undertaker doll and rocks back and forth*

It's only temporary. It'll get better...

Kane Knight 01-27-2007 06:39 PM

You still haven't addressed the fact that they're doing what you said they shouldn't. Their best matches for free on TV.

I don't think it's the "casual idiot" they need to attract. They can't even get most of the remaining wrestling fanbase.

In any event, it will be marketed as repeats, and treated as repeats. The whole "If you haven't seen it, it's new to you" line of thinking is as much bullshit now as it was when it was NBC's catchphrase.

My bad. Misread a word.

The notion that "smarks and TNA fans" will know it's old, but others won't is ridiculous, BTW.

Jeritron 01-27-2007 06:45 PM

When did I say they're doing what they shouldn't tho?

Jeritron 01-27-2007 06:46 PM

oh alright haha, yea I reread my post and was like whaa

The premise may be absurd, but it's kinda true. I dunno, either way I see it as a wise move by TNA. Whether they just overlook it and think its a normal TNA broadcast or realize its a compilation, its still going to have the same impact on them and it seems like a good way to draw in people to be fans. If you've already seen these matches, you're already watching or have already been reached.
Its like if you were trying to make someone a WWE fan, you'd show them a Wrestlemania or a best of tape and not a normal Raw.

they might not until putting two and two together. but the again, there's the setting and date to consider...especielly if they show the same people in different matches. no mook is that stupid.

Jeritron 01-27-2007 07:20 PM

Haha, coming from you that means a lot. Seriously tho, you underestimate how dumb people can be. Not to mention how much ignorance plays a part. I'm sure theres people who flip through and stop on it for a few minutes and think its fucking WWF (yes, don't know about the E yet) and then move on. This world is full of fucking morons.

the Illusionist 01-27-2007 07:23 PM

grrr...sorry about the typos...

WWF? are you serious?

Jeritron 01-27-2007 07:24 PM

yes.

the Illusionist 01-27-2007 07:25 PM

fuck.

the Illusionist 01-27-2007 07:26 PM

...I thought fans were getting smarter these days...given the frustration, impatience, and some decent ideas that i've come across. but I guess that's the minority.

if you're an idiot, say what.

Jeritron 01-27-2007 07:30 PM

well i'm not really talking about the fans, so maybe the point i was making is irrelevant to the discussion. Nonetheless, I'm just pointing out how stupid/ingorant a lot of people are to the wrestling world. Yes, I think its safe to say that a large portion of people (mostly who've never been into wrestling) will pass by a TNA and think its "WWF". Just like I'm sure plently of people didn't realize the difference between WCW and WWF for more understandable reasons.
But in public, or on TV you can see how far behind a lot of people are. In sports broadcast, e.g. the Carmello Anthony incident this year, people will say "this is like something from the WWF" or a couple nights ago there was drama on poker after dark and they were saying "this is like something from the WORLD WIDE WRESTLING FEDERATION". These are just 2 examples of something thats commonplace.

the Illusionist 01-27-2007 07:36 PM

okay, i just misunderstood you then. i'm not familiar with that incident, but i get your point. given TNAs lack of homegrown superstars...people might think WCW is back depending on the match.

It's kinda true, but absurd and almost always a sure way not to draw in new viewers.

Kane Knight 01-27-2007 08:13 PM

I have to agree with Illusionist. No mook is that stupid.

the Illusionist 01-27-2007 09:13 PM

that wasnt a shot at me, was it?

Kane Knight 01-27-2007 09:33 PM

Nope. Just agreement.

Kane Knight 01-27-2007 09:34 PM

We can argue if you want. Would it help if I called you a doodyhead?
