so is anyone buying vista tomorrow?

i would if i had the money, premium home edition.

FakeLaser 01-29-2007 06:41 PM

Demonoid

Vietnamese Crippler 01-29-2007 07:11 PM

I'll give it a couple months to see reviews and give MS the time to release fixes/patches/etc.

Bad Company 01-29-2007 07:43 PM

Been running it since Beta 2.

FakeLaser 01-29-2007 08:12 PM

So is it that amazing, or should I wait a while?

Was gonna wait for pretty much the same reasons VC said.

FakeLaser 01-29-2007 08:13 PM

Also, will it suck on my laptop which has a gig of RAM? I heard it sucks unless you have at least 2 gigs.

Xero 01-29-2007 08:17 PM

LOL, fuck no. Will probably wait until I get another PC (probably within two years, my cycle is about 4-6 years).

FakeLaser 01-29-2007 08:17 PM

I am kind of pissed because I just got a new laptop in June.

It's not like I could have waited, my college gives us new laptops every 2 years (and by give I mean charges an astronomical computing fee).

Xero 01-29-2007 08:21 PM

Don't see the point in upgrading a laptop unless it's your main PC.

I had Windows 98 until 2004. I think I can survive, even if I am anal about being "up to date".

Honestly, I don't care about it. It's the same basic system with an "OOOHH SHINY" interface, and I would be happy running a plain interface. I'm fairly comfortable running command line for fuck's sake.

Bad Company 01-29-2007 08:24 PM

It does the same shit as XP, so if you don't want it, you don't need it. If anything it'll just be a pain in your ass to get used to.

Xero 01-29-2007 08:25 PM

There will be a problem once software companies stop supporting it, but that won't even start to happen until 2009 at the earliest.

1gb of ram is enough, but it really depends on the video card in your laptop.

No, there will be a problem when you want to play DirectX 10 based games as MS has already said there will be no DX10 support for XP.

Xero 01-29-2007 08:29 PM

Yeah, but there won't be any DirectX 10-only games for a long while.

I think Halo 2 (Maybe 3, not sure which) is supposed to be Vista only, but that's all I've heard on DX10 games.

Triple A 01-29-2007 08:37 PM

I already DLed it from Demonoid but registering it/cracking it and shit seems MAD COMPLICATED.

Bad Company 01-29-2007 08:55 PM

I think th best way to crack around it is by changing the time in your PC BIOS to the year 2999 or whatever. Installing Vista, not using a product key. Then setting the date back to 2007 in Windows. Worked for me when I tried it a month or so ago on the final release. So should work now.

Also, Trips, I'd do a fresh install, not an upgrade of your existing windows etc. Make sure you backup any data to another drive.

G 01-29-2007 09:06 PM

OR it would be a lot easier to pay $150 and not have to worry with cracking it and further issues down the road.

G 01-29-2007 09:07 PM

but Vista is probably the only software i will pay for

G 01-29-2007 09:07 PM

everything besides os' is usually a snap

Bad Company 01-29-2007 09:35 PM

I was going to pay for Vista, I've never payed for MS software before, I figured the life span on it would be worth paying for.

But my Xbox 360 fucked out due to Microsofts poor manufacturing techniques, and they wouldn't accept liability.

So now I'm not gonna pay for it.

DS 01-29-2007 10:39 PM

Crysis is DX10 and DX9 and that's probably what a lot of companies will do at first. They really should use DX10 but they would lose a hunk of profit is they went Vista only at this point.

I'd much rather have Vista Ultimate rather than get screwed like I did when I bought XP Home. I'm not falling for that again.

Vietnamese Crippler 01-29-2007 10:50 PM

What about Ultimate makes it so much better? I've read some articles, but I can't get a grasp on what makes it better :-\

DS 01-29-2007 11:02 PM

Ultimate has all the features in one. For example, the Business version of Vista has better options for networking and the ability to create high definition movies, while the Home versions don't. Ultimate is everything in one.

Here's a list of features comparing the versions: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ns/choose.mspx

Bad Company 01-30-2007 01:32 AM

Yeah, I woulcn't use anything other than Ultimate, wouldn't recommend any other version either.

Silent 01-30-2007 01:59 AM

Maybe I'll buy it tomorrow, but probably not until a few months down the road, I don't want to get a buggy OS. Hellooo Windows Me.

Vietnamese Crippler 01-30-2007 02:37 AM

Hmm, I think I'll wait until Spring and save up the $400 for Ultimate and a 500GB HDD :o

Funky Fly 01-30-2007 03:07 AM

I'm probably not gonna be using it until I get a new PC. And of course, should that happen to be soon (unlikely), I will wait for the obligatory 3-4 months to get reviews and bug fixes, etc.

Gulak 01-30-2007 07:20 AM

Just a question, is it like how Windows XP was when you installed it in that you could delete everything on your hard drive before installing it?

St. Jimmy 01-30-2007 08:35 AM

Vistas requirements are fucking retarded for an OS.

A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:
(All this is a BARE BONES operating system, no flash - no flare)
* A modern processor (at least 800MHz¹).
* 512 MB of system memory.
* A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.

Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs
Some Windows Vista Capable PCs have been designated Premium Ready. These PCs will provide an even better Windows Vista experience, including the Windows Aero user experience. Features available in specific premium editions of Windows Vista, such as the ability to watch and record live TV, may require additional hardware.

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor¹).
* 1 GB of system memory.
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)², Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
* 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
* DVD-ROM Drive³.
* Audio output capability.
* Internet access capability.

Yeah, don't fucking think so. Windows XP Pro is good times, but you know what's still the fucking man?

It is "recommended" that Vista be the only thing on your HD at time of install. It doesn't get along with other OS's. (So all you Linux/Unix/Multi-Partition guys should weep.)

ct2k 01-30-2007 09:13 AM

A mate of mine will probably be able to get a load of copies so I'll have one off him for like £10 or something

Neither does XP. Microsoft wants to be the one and only.

That's why I'm actually considering a Mac for my next purchase with Bootcamp.

G 01-30-2007 10:09 AM

why would they put movie making in hd on the business side and not with a home bundle. it's not something i could use right now, but down the road i'm sure, but even then there will be plenty of software choices to pick from. for my needs, it doesn't justify the extra $150 or however much to get ultimate rather than home premium. also the business networking and stuff i wouldn't be using either.

Stickman 01-30-2007 02:01 PM

I will never understand why people feel the need to rush out and buy shit the minute it hits the shelf.

Just John 01-30-2007 02:58 PM

Linux.

because after waiting months, sometimes years for something you want to come out, it's finally available so you go out and get it. you should also think about the recent next gen console releases.

Yeah, it's absolutely rediculous.

Bad Company 01-30-2007 06:09 PM

2k is all kinds of awesome, but XP pegged it back once Service Pack 1 Came in. That's when I went to XP.
I've just got vista Enterprise to test for work, should be interesting.

Xero 01-30-2007 06:20 PM

If anyone is actually going to buy it, get the OEM version from NewEgg: http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Su...rating-Systems

Ultimate is $50 cheaper than the upgrade and about $200 less than the retail version. And it's about the same as the Retail version of Home Basic (about $10 more).

G 01-30-2007 06:46 PM

yeah I was thinking of going OEM ultimate, but what are the difference's than the retail one with the fancy packaging.
