Meeting a mark:

so i'm watching the rumble yesterday and then my housemate came home for lunch with a mate of his, turns out his mate is a wrestling fan. probably about 19 at a guess. And then the mate says "oh sweet, the royal rumble. Fuck I hope John Cena keeps his title, he's awesome!" HAHAHA, its my first encounter with a mark in so damn long, it was awesome..

And he couldn't understand how I could like Edge and randy orton and King Booker, and couldn't understand why I wanted CM Punk to win the rumble.

Also I was at a shop with my girlfriend and a little kidwas there, and there was a magazine with king booker in it, and the kid screamed "I hate king booker!" lol

any1 have any fun, interesting or stories in general about meeting marks?

Kane Knight 01-29-2007 07:58 PM

Fuck, I don't understand why you like half those guys.

M-A-G 01-29-2007 07:59 PM

You realize your wanting CM Punk to win makes you a mark as well, right?

M-A-G 01-29-2007 08:01 PM

And why is it so damn funny that they like who they like and hate who they hate?

Blitz 01-29-2007 08:01 PM

So basically liking/not liking anyone that you like makes someone a mark.

M-A-G 01-29-2007 08:03 PM

Never mind that cheering who you like and booing who you hate is the basis of being a fan.

Xero 01-29-2007 08:03 PM

Well of course it's because they're following who WWE TELLS them to cheer and boo.

Baa.

I can't believe a kid doesn't like the heal! That's amazing.

Jura 01-29-2007 08:32 PM

Do you know what heal means?

Thriller 01-29-2007 08:37 PM

Me and a buddy of mine went to go see Unforgiven 2005 at a theater. My buddy then got into and debate with a 10 year old on who was better Angle or Cena. The 10 year olds arguement was Cena beat angle 4 times already so of course he was better.

We should all envy that kid.

Jeritron 01-30-2007 03:09 AM

for the record I used to work with a kid when I was in highschool who was a huge fuckin mark, especially for Triple H who he said was the best because "hes that damn good" and because "he's the cerebral assasin". He also used to elbow drop and suplex carboard boxes.

El Fangel 01-30-2007 03:12 AM

My 8 year old cousin is a Cena mark  So everytime we would play SvR2006 I would play a diva and he would play Cena, and I would win, and then say Cena got his ass kicked by a girl. He would get mad, and say lets play again, also it almost made me cry when he said "Im a Chaingang General, Can You See me?

Jeritron 01-30-2007 03:31 AM

theres a subtle difference between being a mark and being a living joke. The last part of that story displays the transition.

Jeritron 01-30-2007 03:32 AM

I'm kidding around, but seriously, you gotta sit that kid down and have a talk with him before its too late.

El Fangel 01-30-2007 03:36 AM

I did, and now he is a Chris Benoit mark :)

Jeritron 01-30-2007 03:49 AM

Who isn't?

Jeritron 01-30-2007 03:50 AM

Benoit's pop was excellent Sunday night.

El Fangel 01-30-2007 03:55 AM

Outsider 01-30-2007 06:29 AM

I once went out with a mark. It wasn't that interesting.

My housemate is a mark. He throws things at me when I point out that the Undertaker is the wrestling equivelent of a gone off peach.

I refuse to envy someone for enjoying bad TV.

That's like envying someone who's tone deaf for wanting to grow up to sing as good as Will Hung.

Pardeep 619 01-30-2007 10:06 AM

I remember being in a HMV in Australia last year and 2 kids were looking at WWE DVD's. One kid picked up the Taboo tuesday 2004 DVD and noticed the Eugene - Bischoff match being loser has his head shaved. The kid then goes 'oooh, that's why Eric Bischoff's head is shaved'. Also the 2 kids noticed the Greatest Wrestling Managers DVD, looked at the front cover and one of them said 'why isn't Ric Flair on this?' :nono:

Xero 01-30-2007 10:12 AM

 at "Why isn't Ric Flair on this?"...

The One 01-30-2007 10:25 AM

Over time I have come to the conclusion that I am more mark than smart.

RGWhat316 01-30-2007 12:29 PM

I know this one guy, and he watches most of the programming, but he missed New Years Revolution. So he asked me of how the title match went. So I said of how Cena couldn't pick up Umaga to do the F-U, but he rolled him up for the victory. But the guy couldn't understand why Cena couldn't F-U Umaga, yet he could always F-U the Big Show.

Testicle 01-30-2007 12:36 PM

I think your friend was thinking that Cena fucked up the move.

In all honesty, I can't figure it out either. I mean, even with Umaga resisting it it still wouldn't equal the size of Big Show.

M-A-G 01-30-2007 04:54 PM

Didn't JR explain the reasoning behind that?

Xero 01-30-2007 05:14 PM

I don't know. I don't listen to him half the time. The other half I don't understand him.

Your friend sure showed that 10 year old.

Xero 01-30-2007 07:00 PM

Oh God, I hate being seated near hardcore marks at shows. I mean, I'm happy their there, but when I yell something pretty smarky out, not many get it.

I remember my section started a Cena Sucks/Cena Rules dueling chant at a SuperShow. I believe it spread through the entire building.

If this were to ever happen successfully, it would be the final sign of The Apocolypse.

Jeritron 01-30-2007 08:11 PM

I was at a Raw in 99 and I was supporting Jericho and Triple H (heels at the time) and stuff of that nature, and the people behind me just didn't get it.

Jeritron 01-30-2007 08:13 PM

Though they loved my sign that said "I'm holding this so the roody poo behind me can't see"

RGWhat316 01-30-2007 08:34 PM

Little kids just really annoy me at live events. At Survivor Series 2005, we had a "Lets Go Angle, Lets Go Cena" dueling chant. Most of my row was in the Angle section, but I had to be set next to this little girl, and she was cheering loudly for Cena.

Another show was a SmackDown house show in early 2005. I was actually second row for this one. And one little kid behind me was just yelling and screaming for Undertaker to look his way.

Jeritron 01-30-2007 08:49 PM

Dude, they're kids let them have their fun.

Xero 01-30-2007 08:51 PM

When I'm seated near kids I feel bad for yelling profanities. (Nothing too bad, but still...)

Then there's an ass segment, DX segment or a sex-heavy diva segment and I tend to stop giving a shit.
