Ricky Gervais has done something amazing in tapping into the American sense of humor

Avenger 02-02-2007 05:21 AM

If anyone in the US gets that Lenny Henry joke i'll be shocked

Disturbed316 02-02-2007 09:18 AM

Or the Barry from Eastenders running gag.

Do you mean when they're trying to name a black comedian and then they pan up to a picture of a black dude? I couldn't tell if that was Lenny Henry or not...since I'm only used to seeing him in a Chef's hat.

Unless you're talking about a completely different part.

It's in the 1st or second episode of the second season, yeah I think that's the bit.

Disturbed316 02-02-2007 04:33 PM

Speaking of Gervais, I'm seeing him live on Tuesday, cant wait.

ct2k 02-02-2007 09:11 PM

Yeah its good, its not Brit comedy gold like Pheonix Nights or Royle Family, but its close.

And as Avenger said, anything capable of cracking the ridiculously bad but inpenetrable US market is worthy of praise.

You are thinking of Ainsley Harriot are you not? The chef's hat? I dunno...

Fignuts 02-02-2007 10:11 PM

I was on the floor for like 10 minutes at the David Bowie scene.

I hate you, I want you to die.

Seen him live already for his pre-tour of Politics. It was ok great in parts not so good in others.

Boondock Saint 02-04-2007 10:24 PM

I'll admit tonights episode with that midget Corbett dude I didn't really get. Still funny in places though, like the doll.

I hate Chris Martin/Coldplay but he was ok in this.

how was it?

Disturbed316 02-08-2007 10:28 AM

God damn hilarious. Obviously some of the stuff was abit on edge, he cracked some jokes about cancer and fat people, which included a shot at Lenny Henry again lol, but you laughed because no matter how wrong the subject matter is, it was funny how he put it.

Robin Ince was his support and got a nice little applause when he came on, dont remember much from his set apart from a joke about the Daily Mail. Oh we managed to get Ricky to do the dance, it cracks me up everytime but I think he's getting annoyed of doing it now.

If you ever get the chance to see him, go.

Avenger 02-12-2007 07:36 PM

lol. Brilliant to hear he is consistently good at the stand up and not just a flash in the pan on stage as many said he would be after Animals and Politics.
