Funeral Songs

Help me out here, It's our lass's uncles funeral soon and what songs are 'good' funeral songs

Kane Knight 02-13-2007 12:09 PM

What sort of image are you looking to put across?

Just John 02-13-2007 01:31 PM

3 Doors Down - Here Without You is the typical goodbye funeral song.

Or you could have Break On Through by The Doors

Agreed with Kane Knight that it depends what kind of tone you want to set. If you want something solemn get some Chopin or Beethoven. Go by what your uncle's musical tastes were (if you know them). If he liked Skynyrd then there's no better choice than just throwing on some Skynyrd. A lot of times the funeral homes will be able to suggest things, don't know if this costs more though.

The Appleseed Cast - Rooms and Gardens

That's mine anyway.

Raining Blood - Slayer

I want 'Will The Future Blame Us' played at mine

Kane Knight 02-15-2007 12:46 PM

Okay, with no specifics, let me throw out a few I can think of.

"Teo Torriate" by Queen (Let Us Cling Together). Perhaps a bit loud though in parts. Or hammy in others. There's also an instrumental track called "forever."

I can send you Ben Patton's "Hold out til my angles come" which is beautiful, simple, and touching.

Dave Carter's "When I Go," is a piece I'd probably want played at my own funeral.

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

Was used at my mates funeral, although only because he was practising to play it at a concert, but its a good song for a funeral.

Shisen Kopf 02-15-2007 02:17 PM

too bad the person who died was not female and blonde then just get Elton John to reworke Candle in the Wind. Or if not AC/DCs highway to Hell is a nice one! Or, if you are feeling ironic, play "I will survive" or that Beyonce song "I'm a survivor"!!

I already said that Motley better be playing non stopped throughout my funeral. If not I will raise up and haunt everyone.

The Scientist - Coldplay, just shot into my head like a rush of blood.

ChiefStubbs 02-21-2007 06:47 PM

At my funeral, I plan to have Nothing Else Matters play, and then cut to 0:29 of People Equal Shit for five seconds, and then to be ironic, it will cut to 0:10 of Now You've Got Something To Die For for one minute, and then to 4:50 of Master of Puppets, and then to 2:54 of American Badass, which will play for two seconds, and then to 5:38 of Nothing Else Matters. It would go like this, then:
(Opening riff of NEM)
ONE MORE TIME MOTHERFUCKERS!
Now you've got something to die for
Now you've got something to die for
Infidel, Imperial
Lust for blood, a blind crusade
Apocalyptic, we count the days
Master, Master, where's the dreams that I've been after?
Master, Master, you promised only lies
Laughter, laughter, all I hear or see is laughter
Laughter, laughter, laughing at my cries
I AM AMERICAN BAD ASS
No nothing else matters...

But, for someone who is NOT me, I would do...well, Nothing Else Matters, obviously by Metallica.

El Fangel 02-21-2007 06:50 PM

Yeah, that would work well, Nothing Else Matters - Metallica is pretty sentimental to me. I would love to have it played at my funeral.

Fix You by coldplay might also be a good one. And was that rush to the head? ;)

El Fangel 02-21-2007 06:57 PM

It was a pretty bad joke, relating to the same of the album from which it came, A rush of Blood to the Head.

Black Funeral - Mercyful Fate

El Fangel 02-21-2007 07:26 PM

I scrolled down slowly trying to figure which Slayer song Skipp would say, but I was shocked.
