Abyss and Umaga

Yes I know, I'm shocked if you even bothered to click on this thread.

I may get flamed for this, but here I go...

Let me preface this with my hatred for Umaga. I do not like him by any means. At the very best I find him to be mediocre and unentertaining.

With that being said, I watch TNA occasionally. I follow up on their talent and whats going on over there, but I'm far from a "fan".

Here's my point. In the IWC, as we know many smarks have this Fuck WWE, Go TNA! mentality. It seems as tho they hate all things WWE (which I can see) and praise all things TNA (which I can't see).
Some are worse about it than others, nonetheless I respect their opinions.

But heres what I'm wondering. As much as I dislike Umaga, I dislike Abyss just as much, if not more.
What is so great about this dude? Hes terrible. Extremely boring to watch, not nearly the best bigman worker that some proclaim him to be. And he's like a third rate knock off of 97 Mankind. It's like the lost house show test for Mason the Mutilator.

What gets me, is this guy was their champion. I just dislike him, and though I dislike Umaga, I don't see what is any better about this hack.

The point I'm making, is in my opinion...If Abyss as is with James Mitchell was in WWE doing the same things as Umaga, and Umaga was in TNA with Estrada doing the same things as Abyss...these sheep would be saying the exact opposite things. They'd be marking for the Umaga character and trashing Abyss.

I think its just representative of the attitudes of a lot of those sheep in Orlando and around the smark community. I'm not saying Umaga is a better worker than Abyss, just as far as everythings concerened I don't get this at all.:shifty:

The poster known as Inadequacy will bitch if he finds this post but anyways.

I see Umaga as a SHITTY counterpart to Abyss (Pun intended), they are both big men, little interest besides their dominating history, and horribly boring matches with either predictable or dumb endings.

Abyss = 97 Mankind + 2000 Kane (Thats all)

Jeritron 02-20-2007 11:58 PM

Yes I just don't like Abyss. And I certainly am not condoning Umaga. He sucks just as much. Its just that Abyss is so shitty, boring and low rent.

Mason the Mutilator.

El Fangel 02-21-2007 12:02 AM

You would think a mix of 97 mankind and 2000 kane would be good though.

Abyss is the man

Umaga is not

I don't know it might just come down to preference. If you cant enjoy that style from any big man wrestler Umaga or Abyss wont do anything for you. They're not the best big men out there, but I find them more interesting to watch then most of the guys that are out there.

And fyi, Umaga is capable of putting on a better match than he's done so far. He had some really good bouts while working for all japan, but like all the wrestlers on wwe roster hes been watered down to fit WWE's "style" of wrestling.

McLegend 02-21-2007 12:23 AM

No one puts TNA over for anything anymore.

Jeritron 02-21-2007 12:25 AM

Its not about liking Umaga, I don't. Its about hating Abyss as much if not more.

I just cringe when I read "hes the best big man in the industry"

Fignuts 02-21-2007 12:27 AM

Well thats not true, but i would rank him fairly high.

McLegend 02-21-2007 12:29 AM

Also when watching Umaga in the ring you can see the guy has plenty of talent. Umaga can go.

Abyss is good at what he does, but best big man in the industry? No.

.44 Magdalene 02-21-2007 05:19 AM

I think there might be a grand total of three people on this whole forum that have the "Fuck WWE, Go TNA!" mentality. I think even the TNA marks have come to terms with how gay TNA tends to be.

Anyway, Abyss is average, and Umaga's being forced to be average.

The End.

Skippord 02-21-2007 05:21 AM

BTW Abyss is the best big man at taking bumps in the industry

.44 Magdalene 02-21-2007 05:21 AM

Actually, where the fuck did this comparison come from in the first place? What crazy sonuvabitch said anything about Abyss being better than Umaga in the first place? I know I've made plenty of jokes about Umaga being Joey Samoey, but the Abyss thing totally blindsided me.

I stumbled across this thread thinking that they were going to have a love child...

I hate to see the resulting pic on that one. :shifty:

Stickman 02-21-2007 02:02 PM

Oh yeah, I totally agree, I hate Umaga but Abyss is 100% pure crap.

The Optimist 02-22-2007 01:56 AM

I love the pointless contrast of these characters.

Umaga is generic foreign racism monster.

Abyss is generic horror monster.

They both need something more distinguishing about them and I might start to care.

Abyss being made champion, even by DQ, was a pretty big mistake. The only good thing about it was the resulting Sting fued which was partially screwed up by Abyss's Katie Vick in the whole "I shot my dad" thing. I'm not sure whether they should keep them fueding and just forget the dad thing and hope that Abyss pulls off some sort of Vampiro-like ascendance to Sting's epic rival. Or. . .just drop the whole thing and start fueding him with Raven or something.

Umaga. . .needs to just drop the gimmick. I don't see it going anywhere and he could easily be smited by Khali, whose silent-crazy-monsterness isn't a gimmick at all. From there do something else with Jamal, something that isn't Three Minute Warning. I don't know what. Make the Godfather his manager and put him in the Val Venus-Viscera stable.

Stickman 02-22-2007 01:43 PM

Sting should form a stable with Abyss.

BigDaddyCool 02-22-2007 01:45 PM

At least Eric Estra is entertaining.

Nah, he should team with Kip James.

Then they could be the Ass Abyss!

Londoner 02-22-2007 05:56 PM

Jeritron i'm with you on this, i've never understood why people like Abyss, he's just a blatant rip off of Kane, a poor rip off for that matter. Though Umaga is much worse.
