Jim Ross *Raw Spoiler*
So now that The King has been announced for the Hall of Fame, don't you think JR should have been too? I mean, don't you feel kind of bad for JR since his commentary partner is being inducted and JR isn't? They should have inducted both of them, in the same year.
I think JR is a lock for the hall of fame but I agree that they should go in together. I don't know if they'll induct him this year or not though.
I don't think they should go in together, King's on screen career goes waaaay deeper than the last 10 years announcing, he was fucking awesome back in Memphis.
If he's inducted with JR, he's going to get remembered more as JR's colour man, rather than one of the hottest heels of the 70's |
If King is getting inducted as a wrestler then they shouldn't go in together but since this is the WWE Hall of Fame, I assume it would be based only on their career in WWE not King's time in Memphis.
The King has had a huge career outside of commentating. Even non-wrestling fans who saw it remember stuff with Andy Kaufman - it must be one of the best works ever in the regards that some people still believe it to be real.
He deserves to go in on his own merits not in a pair with JR. |

Ah, good point. They probably should though since there is a wrestling hall of fame..
Did JR break Andy Kaufman's FREAKING neck? I dont think so.
It would be an insult to Lawler's career to induct him and JR at the same time, as the two would be indistinguishable. Lawler's career was legend before he ever sat behind an announce table; if anything, ten years of hearing him drooling about women's chests has made me think less of him.
It was stated years ago, when WWE bought WCW and ECW, that the WWE Hall of Fame was basically Wrestlings Hall of Fame.
I could swear JR had been announcing for far longer than 10 years.
He has...
I think he's been like a top-level WWE announcer for about 10 years. Or something.
He called WrestleMania 9 in 1993 as his debut appearance. That's 14 years of calling PPVs, weekend shows and, since 1996, Monday Night Raw. And who can forget Radio WWF?

Lawler should be inducted alone, so as to not just focus on his announcing. |
The reason some people still think it was real is because that feud had a lot more coverage than the 'admission' ever did.
Don't forget Lawler's WWF work in 1992-1994. He was a tremendous, main event level heel, right up until his match with Roddy Piper at King Of The Ring 1994. After that match flopped, and he entered his subsequent feud with Doink, he was pretty much used as a comedy jobber. But he had a great little run there for a while, feuding with Bret Hart and Piper. |
JR is still currently commentating. He should not be in the hall of fame yet.
I really don't see this problem everyone has with people going into the Hall of Fame who are still active. If they have had Hall of Fame careers, and are locks to go in, then throw them in there now. We are talking the twilight of JR/King's careers here anyway, it's not as though they are being inducted whilst still in their prime. Same reason why Austin and Flair should go in already.
May as well put them in there when their careers start to wind down, rather than wait until they drop dead and deny them the chance to receive their induction in person. |
I think the 'Birds should be inducted this year, as well. Considering the Boys were way ahead of their time when they came out to "Freebird." They more or less drew everywhere they went (except for New York, oddly enough.) and you can't deny Hayes' mic work setting the stage for Steve Austin. On top of that, Gordy was probably one of the best Brawlers ever, and you had Buddy Roberts, who was a good Technician.

I really, really hope they do something creative with this, and have Lawler get cocky after he's inducted. Use it to get in touch with his heel persona that made him a great. After watching RAW for the first time in a while last week, the one thing that I noticed about The King's commentary wasn't how bad it was, per se, just that it seemed a little redundant to have two face commentators. If Lawler turned heel, I think he and JR would actually have a lot of life left as a duo. |

Everyone knows JR's announcing career is longer, he was announcing before his WCW stints |
