Official GTA IV Thread

Coming out in October with episodic content in 2008. March 29th will be the first trailer. Figured I'd start this now.

TerranRich 03-01-2007 10:40 PM

Episodic content? What's that, like add-ons?

Man, I can't wait for this game, whether I have the console for it or not. :D

PapaGeorgio 03-01-2007 10:42 PM

What new features and that will it have? How will it be different from other ones?

Fignuts 03-01-2007 10:57 PM

I dunno, gta became boring for me after I played vice city to death. Like, I got partway into San Andreas, and I just didn't care.

I think a big part of that is the fact that there are a lot of games that take the open enviornment formula of gta, and put it in a fantastic setting. Games like spider-man 2, Mercenaries, and Crackdown make the activity in GTA just seem tame and uninteresting.

With Cracdown out, and more importantly, Mercanaries 2 on the way, I could give a fuck about the next gta

DS 03-01-2007 11:09 PM

Episodic content will be like more "chapters" to the story. So, yeah, like add-ons.

But other than the release date and the trailer date, everything about this game has been pretty quiet. The trailer will be the first look at the era, new features, and if we go back to being white. Or, possibly a customizable character this time. For some reason I think this is a big possibility.

El Fangel 03-01-2007 11:15 PM

Does anyone has any idea what era this is in?

KingofOldSchool 03-01-2007 11:40 PM

They need to do one from the 60's.

TAKE OUT THOSE HIPPIES.

El Fangel 03-01-2007 11:44 PM

Or a 20-30's mob one. You can take on John Cena and the chaingang of untouchables.

mitchables 03-01-2007 11:45 PM

The first expansion pack for GTA 1 was set in the '60's.

Yeah, or Rockstar could not waste their time since The Godfather has been out for months.

Blitz 03-01-2007 11:56 PM

Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkk gotta get a PS3 or 360 soon.

Mafia was out far longer than The Godfather and it was much better.

Indifferent Clox 03-02-2007 12:50 AM

I thought this was in Europe.

Blitz 03-02-2007 12:59 AM

I wonder if it'll include GTAIII characters.

Shaggy 03-02-2007 01:53 AM

I hope that the extra content for this game isnt crap like...New clothes and haircuts for your character...

If its not new storylines then I probably wont be buying the extra crap...

Cant wait for the game though...since I own a 360...This and Guitar Hero 2 are the only two games im really waiting for..

DS 03-02-2007 01:57 AM

The episodic content isn't just a new weapon or new car, it's hours of additional gameplay.

I would care if I actually played that game.

Disturbed316 03-02-2007 10:49 AM

GTA: London was full of cheesey Austin Power like refferences and quotes.

Wonder if the Hot Coffee mini game will make it the proper final version this time :shifty:

360 duuuuuuuuude. I'll even get a NHL game to play you at.

MTH15 03-02-2007 07:00 PM

Its not for PS2? I suggest modern time..Like now. And have different characters..Or possibly just a Create-A-Character

Just John 03-02-2007 07:38 PM

Nothing is known about GTAIV except that the trailer will be released 29th of March, and that it will use the RAGE Engine (Rockstars Advanced Graphics Engine) its what they used for Rockstars table tennis.

Not entirley.

It could end up being a teaser trailer, which although unlikley, wouldn't be unexpected from Rockstar

DS 03-02-2007 07:44 PM

It won't be a teaser trailer because this is usually the time when they started releasing information for the other games.

Just John 03-02-2007 07:51 PM

Yeah I know, but beware that this time is very close to April fools day (1st) Its weird how we usually get screenshots in march, and a trailer in may.

But they did this with L.A Noire

Extreme Angle 03-02-2007 07:52 PM

Could have add ons like crackdown, new agents on crackdown but you could download or design your own t-shirt that would be bang tight :D

Xero 03-02-2007 08:01 PM

I don't have any doubts that this will be the first truly huge game of the next-gen (even bigger than Halo 3). I'm hoping it will be on a brand new engine, because while GTA 3-SA were awesome, the ground controls were always a little stiff.

Destor 03-02-2007 08:35 PM

Yo quick question. Why does everyoen credit open enviornment/free roam to GTA? Why would you not credit it to say... ZEDLA? Bugs me.

94 SVT Cobra 03-02-2007 09:18 PM

Damn it, i was doing so good not wanting any of the new systems too...now...i have to get one as the only time i actually buy damn systems is for the new GTA games.

Yeah, and the 3D style of gameplay you see now was actually done in Driver (The first one, although I know you couldnt exit the car until the second) whilst GTA was still top down. But as far as most people are concerned, GTA pulled it off better.

I suppose the same would account for the freeroaming sandbox gameplay.

They are using a new engine.

Are you familiar with the company NaturalMotion and its Euphoria Engine? No? Well, soon, you will be. NaturalMotion is actually the first company to create 3D character animation software based on DMS or Dynamic Motion Synthesis. In case you're wondering why this matters to you, please take note that the company just announced a partnership with Rockstar Games.

NaturalMotion said that Rockstar Games will now be including Euphoria in its upcoming next-gen titles. The engine will simulate the human body and nervous system that allows characters to be fully interactive, allowing them to act differently every time. CEO Torsten Reil remarked,

In Rockstar, we have found a partner that shares this vision, and is renowned for creating some of the most ground-breaking and immersive games in the industry. We are thrilled and honored to work with a partner of such high caliber, and look forward to helping create amazing titles.

Finally, NaturalMotion promises to make announcements regarding specific titles *cough...GTA IV...cough* soon.

I'll try and dig up some Youtube vids of the engine in action (Not of GTA though)

There is a tech demo of the Euphoria engine, shown by throwing some Stormtroopers around. Looks lush as you can see.

Xero 03-03-2007 08:31 PM

Wow, looks really awesome.

Johnny Vegas 03-04-2007 11:20 AM

They need to do either: Late '90s one (or was that GTA III) or just another location like Chicago, Hawaii, or Texas.

New features should be like you should be able to interact more with the city. You can go to sporting events, concerts, nightclubs (and actually drink and pick up a girl or something), go to the mall with girl/allies. You can fly to different cities (back to miami, NY, LA, Las Vegas, etc. since there will be more disk space). I'll think of more later...

Extreme Angle 03-04-2007 01:17 PM

There MUST be online play

DS 03-04-2007 02:12 PM

It will probably have a lot of the same online types as the PSP games have had. Probably more.

Disturbed316 03-04-2007 04:12 PM

Looks pretty awesome

Just John 03-04-2007 06:03 PM

I'm pretty sure there will be net play of some sort, I looked on the Rockstar North website earlier in the year (2006) and they were looking for net programmers to apply.

MTH15 03-04-2007 10:41 PM

I hope the multiplayer is more like it was for James Bond for N64. 4 screens split and stuff. Different places like say a part of town where you can roam around. Like online you just roam around and you can either go into a part of land (ex. Los Santos, Sanfierro) and its free for all there...snipers and shit. That would be bombay!!

Yeah, thats partly due to people being idiots, and people that think of sandbox crim-sim as something totally different from a game with RPG like qualities. It just depends whats said really.
