"Golden Boy" Arnie Skaaland latest wrestler to pass away

Quote:

According to WWE.com, The "Golden Boy" Arnold Skaaland passed away late Tuesday evening at the age of 82. He died with his wife at his side.

Skaaland is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame and has been a member of the WWE family for over 50-years. He was a known manager, wrestler and promoter and one of the stockholders of the early Capitol Wrestling Corporation.

1967 saw he and Spiros Arion win the WWE United States Tag Team Championship. Another career highlight was when he served as the referee for the famous 1962 match in Japan between "Classy" Freddie Blassie and Rikidozan. What most fans remember Skaaland for is the "throwing in of the towel" in the Bob Backlund vs. Iron Sheik WWF Title match in 1983.

Our condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Skaaland.

Wow, way too many people passing away so far this year.

R.I.P Golden Boy

I remember an angle with Bob Backlund getting revenge for the towel throwing incident by putting Skaaland in the chicken wing in 1994. I think that was the last time Skaaland made an appearance for WWE.

Good Christ they're coming so fast. RIP.

Rammsteinmad 03-14-2007 04:22 PM

LOL WTF this is insane. I've never heard of the guy, but R.I.P. Please let this be the last one. :(

Anybody Thrilla 03-14-2007 04:23 PM

Well, at least this was a natural death. R.I.P.

He was a fixture on WWF TV as a wrestler, manager and personality until the late 80s, making occassional appearances until the mid 90s.

Wow. I almost don't want to come online anymore, as I'm automatically sent updates and the first thing I see when I get online all the time now are RIP's and death mentions all the time.

Arnie was a TRUE gentleman's gentleman, and gave a great deal to this shit business that it is. Worked with everyone who was anyone, all of the greats, and leaves behind an amazing legacy. God Bless him. All the best to his pals and his family. I'm sure Ernie Ladd met him up there, and they're already being worked into angles as we speak. RIP.

Too many deaths. This one wasn't a surprise but it's happening a lot lately. RIP.

ClockShot 03-14-2007 05:25 PM

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON! THAT'S LIKE 2 THIS WEEK!

Oh. And Arnold got the Lifetime Acheivement award at the last airing of the slammy awards. If I'm not mistaken.

R.I.P.

You know I was actually watching the Baclund/Sheik match last night. The man lived a full life, most of would be lucky see 82.

mrslackalack 03-14-2007 10:13 PM

Arnie was at the 2004 HOF ceremony.

I gotta be honest- I read that and smiled. Albeit there has been a rash of wrestlers passing away this one seems peaceful. Yea, if they show him I'll get emotional, but this time around it's.... He lived a good, long life.

Rest in peace.

Xerzes 03-15-2007 03:34 AM

With how many wrestlers have passed away recently I'm hoping WWE does a 10 bell salute to a group of wrestlers that have passed away since WM22.
