Catch-22

Catch-22 is possibly the funniest book I have ever read. The Hitchiker's Guide books were previously the funniest books I had ever read, and might even still be, but the humour strikes me as kind of similar anyway.

I want to see the film adaption of Catch-22, but it strikes me from reading the book that it would be very difficult to adapt faithfully. It just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense as a picture, considering the nature of the book. But anyway.

The best part so far (I haven't finished yet) was the description of the moaning incident in a mission briefing, and Major --- De Coverley's entrance in to the cafeteria.

Been awhile. I had to read it in highschool. I should pull it out and read it again. But from what I remember it would be difficult to make into a movie. Too many nuances that would be lost.

Yeah it doesn't really have a set plot structure, just a series of character descriptions and incidents and experiences described from their perspectives.

It's massively funny, but also a kind of sad book making a point about sending young men off to die in a war they want nothing to do with.

it's already been made into a movie, Jon Voight was in it back when he was a youngian.

Yeah, Catch-22 is like, my second favorite book ever.

Eh, the movie is decent... Not quite sure if I like the book ending, or the movie ending better though.

I know, I said I wanted to see it.

But that it probably doesn't work.

personally the book was better

I saw the film last night, and it was ok. The book is impossible to adapt, so the film basically just stuck to a thin version of Yossarian's story.

The book is the most hilarious thing I have seen/read/heard ever, the film wasn't all that hilarious.

Has anyone tried reading the sequel, " Closing Time." I've tried reading it, but can never get into it.

I'm definitely going to check it out at least, as well as the rest of Heller's work.

read Catch 22, great book, been re reading it the last few weeks. ****ed up ending. Forgotten most of the bits best bit Ive read so far this time is Clevingers trial :D brilliance.

Read Closing Time a couple years ago too. Not as good as Catch 22, there was no way it good be, but I liked it. The bits with the Chaplain are great :D Well worth a look if you liked Catch 22, just dont expect it to be as brilliant and you shouldnt be disappointed.
