Hating on the Spinner Belt

Okay, in todays pro wrestling, most people don't care about championships anymore as we know they are all decided by a few men sitting at a big table deciding on what the people (or just themselves) want to see it around. However, at the same time the presentation of the show should still be somewhat like a sport, and if not in the camera work or the outragous storylines, how about the title belts.

This is where I get to my point: I FUCKING HATE THE SPINNER BELT! I hate it with a passion. Don't know why...maybe I'm just going crazy, and that belt is my fixation for the maddness...but I hate it. I mean it looks like a toy for christ sake. In cop movies, they don't shoot each other with nerf guns, so why in wrestling are they dedicating themselves towards winning a belt that looks like it was designed by a 13 year old.

Now don't get me wrong...I think the belt fit Cena's character, but I mean that in a pass tense. He has since dropped the rap gimmick for more than a year now, so why walk around with a belt incrusted with diamonds, spins, and spells "CHAMP" on the bottom. I mean as a gimmick belt it was fine, but now it just looks like a joke. Now not saying that a different belt would make him a better (or for some people, "worst") champion, but I think a real title belt would give the championship a little more credibility.

Oh, and it's not just Cena using it as the WWE Championship belt that annoys me...my true hatered for the belt came from the fact that WWE has seemed to have made it the OFFCIAL championship belt of the company. Cena has lost that belt 2 times now and STILL the belt didn't go onto a shelf next to the Million Dollar belt and Smoking Skull. Instead it continued on TV through Edges title reign (which we bought because we knew Cena would have it back in a month time), and then when RVD won it and followed by Edge regaining, the belt remained (and not counting that Edge placed the R in the middle...still the same fucking belt). This followed by replacing the WWE Championship icon before title matches on TV going from the Entertainment Era belt to the Spinner Belt.

Seriously, in today's wrestling era, the sport is gone and now it's about entertainment, but becoming more and more of this entertainment and getting away from the sport it once represented kills the atmophere of pro wrestling. I can live with the cheesy gimmick, the speical finishing moves, and the "would never happen in real life" angles, but when you start making the sport side of the show more cartoony than believable, it kills the feel. I think this belt (for me at least) really kills the meaning there. I mean every week I see that belt and look at the title as a joke...and hey, some people here will argue that the matches and feuds are what really kill the title (and I'll agree), but presenting this belt as your "proclaimed title" just makes it a joke that never ends.

My rant is done...discuss.

MY GOD. This is the first good post of 2003!

Corkscrewed 03-18-2007 07:38 PM

It costs money to make new belts all the time. :shifty:

Savio 03-18-2007 07:39 PM

St. jimmy you are about 2 years off.....So are you JT.

Retarded N00b Man 03-18-2007 07:39 PM

I concur, fuck the spinner belt.

Xero 03-18-2007 07:40 PM

When I read the title I thought you were going to defend it. Honestly, it's pretty fucking tacky and I think it's an abomination.

Now, I'm biased and say that the Smoking Skull belt was beyond awesome. Defending it, it actually looked like a belt. But, if you're a relatively new WWE fan and like Cena, it's the equivalent (in my case, and I'm sure others') of Austin's belt in this era for those fans. Sort of like how Austin's belt was the equivalent to Warrior's colorful belts. (That queer eye.)

Though this belt seems to be staying as the actual belt, as they didn't switch it out for the Undisputed version when Cena drops it for all of 1-3 months at a time.

I'm hoping that once Cena moves away from the title they'll bring in a new version of the WWE championship.

Or, in a few years, have Cena change to a more serious Game/Franchise-type gimmick and have him drop it then.

This post was probably made before (hopefully not), but haven't been around often since 2003 (which make it the best  ). I was just reading the post about worst champions, and this is the first thing that pops up in my mind when talking about the championship. Seriously...I don't know why, but I hate that belt with a passion.

Xero 03-18-2007 07:46 PM

I still think they should have done this when RVD won it...

Well in honesty, when the belt came out in 2005 I had no problem with it. Like I said, it fit his gimmick (sort of like the Smoking Skull with Austin, which I'll mention in my next responce). However, the belt has been around for 2 years straight now and has had 3 different holders. I mean Austin would lose the Smoking Skull...next Raw the champion would have the offcial belt.

This belt just doesn't want to disappear...WWE has seemed to have made it the promotions offcial belt, and that's where my hatred comes from. This is a toy, a children's belt that old worked because of Cena's rap gimmick. Now it serves no other purpose other than possibly WWE getting alot of money from people buying replicas and pissing me off.

Xero 03-18-2007 07:50 PM

The spinny-shiny market is huge these days.

You know how they have "SmashMy360" or whatever it's called? Someone should do that, buy one of the really expensive deluxe replicas (with the donations), go to a show and smash it in front of all the Cena marks. It would be pretty ROFL I think.

"NOOO! WHY!?"
"That's not cool man."
"CENA RULES!"
"Can I have the WWE logo?"

They should never change how belts look imo, especially not to make them stupid gimmicky ones. Cheapens the whole thing, even if they did decide they were worth booking solidly

Well I came in around the time that they switched the Eagle belt with the Attitude belt, so I can see why I might like the Smoking Belt like you...but let's look at this real quick. The belt looks like a real championship belt, it actually said on it "World Heavyweight Champion" on it (something even there then offical belt didn't say), and other than the skull could have passed easily for a offical championship. The spimmer has a huge WWE logo in the middle which is upside down half the time because it spins, and has the abbreviated use of the word champion on it which I hate looking at. The belt (and I know I'm repeating myself) looks like a toy, and how can you make a championship look serious with a toy...

Imagine Wrestlemania 12...

McMahon: Congrads Shawn, here's your belt.

Shawn: Hey, it spins! :D

I would contribute to this campaign.Hell...I would dress up like Triple H and come in with a sledgehammer to do it myself.

Savio 03-18-2007 09:08 PM

I'd rather just put it in a trash can with C4 ala (allah?) JBL

Dorkchop 03-18-2007 10:26 PM

I didn't mind the spinny US title, but hate the spinny WWE title. If Cena was a huge as fake rapper heel it could make sense character and storyline wise. I didn't really like the look of the Undisputed title (then it became the WWE title) but I like it a lot more than the spinny belt.

Not that I think the WWE should get another new WWE title belt, but I wouldn't mind too much if they got a brand new one that was larger, looked more like a championship belt, and was going to be the belt for years.

For a company that makes a profit of about $40 million a year? Come on man. That's a lame excuse. And what's the deal with those little eyes looking back and forth. Corky, you're weird.

Kane Knight 03-19-2007 10:57 AM

40 million?

That's all?

Xero 03-19-2007 10:59 AM

That's after Taxes and Hogan appearances.

Kane Knight 03-19-2007 11:06 AM

Yeah, but 37 million of that goes to Vince...

If someone buys the belt and sends it to me, I'll do it at the Smackdown tapings after Wrestlemania.

And yes I know it's not Raw, but I'm 100% sure there will be kids, wiggers, and skanky fat chicks who'll be at the show.

I'll wear stilts and act like The Great Khali and chop the belt into pieces.

Xero 03-19-2007 11:52 AM

If you're going to be Khali you have to eat it.

KingofOldSchool 03-19-2007 12:19 PM

I'll chop it, then eat it.

addy2hotty 03-19-2007 12:28 PM

NO BELTS NEEDED AS KHALI EAT ALL BELTS AND MEN SO TWO HOURS AND OVERRUN OF RAW WILL BE KHALI SHOUTING 'I EAT ALL MEN'!

RAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH

Kane Knight 03-19-2007 02:58 PM

I'd help pay, but it'd have to be on Raw, so you could smash it when the camera was on you. ;)

Crossrine 03-19-2007 06:01 PM

Some one has actually summed up pretty much all of the world's anger at the current belt. Bravo

6to1 03-19-2007 06:05 PM

the belt sucks but the kids love it when they buy the replaca belts they have something to do during boring matches, by spining it.

Jeritron 03-19-2007 06:06 PM

that belt literally draws more money than half their wrestlers

As harsh as that sounds I couldnt agree more.

Kane Knight 03-19-2007 06:58 PM

That belt is the single reason Raw hasn't plumeted to 1.5s...
