Question about title status
So, what makes a title a world title? Its name or being defended in foriegn countries or being defended against foriegners?
|
If the company deems it a world title.
|
I think that is about it. In a fixed sport I dunno that there is a way of declaring a title a legit "World" title or something that is supposed to declare somebody the best in the world.

The London Publishing company (the company that does such magazines as Pro Wrestling Illustrated, Inside Wrestling, and The Wrestler) used to have criteria for what was and wasn't a "World" title back when I still followed them, but that's hardly a be-all, end-all as far as declaring what's "official", and I haven't really followed any of the magazines in years. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

What makes it a title?
|
I would say once a title is defended in a foreign country, the title becomes a World Title, but as others have said, there's no official guideline to what makes a title a World title.

Aren't they given world title status by some authority thats not really an authority anymore in the world of wrestling that WWE now owns?
I think NWA, AWA, IWGP or whatever in Japan, ECW, WWE, and WWE World are the only titles that have currently been given world title status. I think ROH may have it, or is about to get it. I'm not sure if there are any others. |

Show some respect for the World Champion of Lichtenstein, bitches.

what makes any sport have a "world champion"....im assuming pro sports like NBA, NFL, etc. make the claim of having the best caliber players in the world, hence world champion....though I do think they have stopped referring to all the sports titles recently as world champions.
WWE assumingly does the same, hence world championship |
And the prestige of "Undisupted World Champion."
