Wade Boggs? Who? (WWE Hall of Fame Update)

According to WWE.com, Wade Boggs will induct Curt Hennig into the Hall of Fame. This on top of WWE turning down Jerry Lawler's request to have legendary announcer Lance Russell induct him, and choosing William freakin' Shatner instead, simply due to some little embarrassing skit they performed a few years ago on Raw. They are just turning this year's ceremony into a typical WWE has-beens/never-weres celebrity fest. There are many more influencial people from the career of Hennig who could induct him. Verne Gagne. Bobby Heenan. Larry Hennig (who I assume will accept the award). Greg Gagne. Lanny Poffo. Ric Flair. Barry Windham.

Ah, well. Trust WWE to put a dampener on these things with another cheap publicity stunt.

Wade Boggs is cool.

KingofOldSchool 03-23-2007 03:01 PM

LOL what history does William Shatner have with Lawler?

And what does Boggs have to do with Hennig other than him appearing in one of Hennig's debut vintage's?

Shatner appeared on the King's Court circa 1995 and embarrassed Lawler by putting him in a judo throw, and making him run like the proverbial scalded dog. (Shatner, probably nearly 60 at the time, also beat up the Road Dogg and acted as Bret Hart's manager during this disasterous TV taping).

As for Boggs.... I doubt he has ANYthing to do with Hennig other than that vignette, but you know WWE. Anyone that has ever been even slightly famous is fair game to pay big bucks and appear on WWE TV.

I said has-beens/never-weres.... there's a slash there. Shatner is actually a hasbeen who has come back a little with his new show, but still.... hardly A-list.

Lawler and Shatner met in a death match on Rylos Prime in the Omega Sector.

NeanderCarl 03-23-2007 05:08 PM

Really? How? Why?

Xero 03-24-2007 11:20 AM

So now wrestlers aren't allowed to have friends outside the business?

You just don't understand what it's like in the lockerroom.

NeanderCarl 03-24-2007 01:26 PM

All I'm saying is, how could Hennig and Boggs have developed a close friendship, with such contrasting schedules/careers? I'm not saying they couldn't have clicked during the vignette, but close friends??

redoneja 03-24-2007 01:34 PM

from wwe.com

Quote:

I met Curt in 1983 in Rochester, N.Y., and we became good friends, hunting and fishing buddies," Boggs told WWE.com. "In fact, he once saved my life while were were hunting in 2001; I got entangled into a barbed wire fence and was cut pretty badly. It took all the strength Curt had to free me and carry me about a mile back to the truck. He saved my life and has a special place in my heart; we spent as much time as we could together, and it's a shame he was taken from us so early.
