Sweet

Stickman 03-27-2007 03:48 PM

The majority owners of Zuffa purchased Pride.

McLegend 03-27-2007 03:49 PM

Yes pretty much the same thing

Loose Cannon 03-27-2007 03:53 PM

source?

FUCKING AWESOME

(I didn't read the article)

It was just a matter of time really. MMA is exploding and UFC is the leader. Big fish eat the little fish. Time will tell how well it works out.

The One 03-28-2007 03:24 PM

I don't care about anything other than getting Fedor in the UFC Octagon, and having him walk over every single one of UFC's useless heavyweights, and become the undisputed greatest Heavyweight Champion of all time.

Kris P Lettus 03-28-2007 09:30 PM

I don't know the actual current roster, but I've seen some pretty big dudes in Pride.. (guys over 265lbs, like Butterbean) My question is, is the UFC only going to take those 265lbs and under or are they gonna make a super heavyweight division??

Crimson 03-29-2007 12:03 AM

can't wait to get the ball rolling on some of these matches. How should they go about it though..should they just bring in everyone and make it one big promotion..or keep it seperate and have like a wrestlemania type show once a year?

Hard to say ..I wouldn't mind either one but i'd prefer keeping them seperate and do some criss cross matches once in a while or once a year.

Crimson 03-29-2007 12:04 AM

But have both in the octagon.

Its already been said on numerous MMA websites that Zuffa and the Fertitas "plan" on keeing some of the things in pride the same, but changing somethings also.

As far as I have read, they plan on unifying the rules. That is, no more of the soccer kicks or grounded knee's to the head. My guess is that would incorporate elbows back into the mix as well. They also said that they plan on keeping all Pride events in a ring, and keeping the cage for UFC. Not sure if they would keep the ring for Pride events in the US though.

As far as the Super Heavyweight thing goes, they *could* start a new weightclass, but I wouldnt count on it. When any of the fighters wish to fight in the US, they fight under NSAC, and no such weight class exists right now. However, same could be said previously of Lightweights, and we know how that turned out. Time will tell.

Pride's weight classes are going to be brought in line with UFC's.

At the moment the plan seems to be Pride will remain as it is, and they will try to get back on Japanese TV. Then after that some talent exchanges will probably happen, and maybe 1 cross-brand supershow a year.

It just makes me sad (again) that Vince is such an idiot who killed WCW stone dead.

Rob 04-02-2007 07:43 PM

They had no chance of getting TV with WCW. But that's no excuse.

You won't believe what I heard about that WCW buy-out the other day too.

ct2k 04-02-2007 08:07 PM

You could just say it and stop wasting time you Scottish prick:mad:

Also how can any promotion allow 'soccer kicks and grounded knees to the head'? I mean thats insane:|

What's insane is reading on forums and shit people whining about promotions not allowing them.

ct2k 04-02-2007 08:13 PM

Having been kicked in the face and head myself I can attest to how unpleasant it is. And having seen someone put into a coma following a headstamp I can't help but feel sick when th.inking what damage a knee would do

Stickman 04-02-2007 08:19 PM

My feelings exactly. Find UFC1 and watch the first ever UFC fight. A big dude gets punted in the face like 20 seconds in and the fight's over.

ct2k 04-02-2007 08:23 PM

Much as I enjoy MMA, I find that kinda thing sick and pointless, it takes no skill and no guts.

They could've easily switched it to Smackdown's slot, or taken up something like Velocity.

Meh, all in the past.

Spill

Rob 04-03-2007 03:41 PM

I would but I got called a Scottish prick :(

Vince paid £2.5 million for WCW, got to hand pick what contracts he wanted and then he got paid like 6 months of backdated PPV money that should have went to AOL/Time Warner.... so he not only ended up getting WCW for free but he got PAID to take them.

Mr. Monday Morning 04-03-2007 06:32 PM

Pretty sure I've called you worse

I am against stomps in every way, shape, and form. I know knee's are bad but I dont see them in the same light if you are on the ground, you dont get near as much leverage into a knee if you arent standing. Stomps however have always been barbaric, and sometimes I feel that some fighters only win matches with these "soccer kicks and stomps" *COUGH*SHOGUN*COUGH*.

The counter argument against the elbow's is that they start "career ending cuts on the eyebrow or forehead". I know that if someone were to ask me "You want me to elbow your face, or stomp on your head while you are on the ground?" I think I would take the elbow, not sure what leads me to this. Probably death versus a booboo on my face.
