HOLY CRAP!!!---Rock Band

Credit: g4tv.com .......

Holy craps!

This weekend, Harmonix, MTV and EA announced the development of Rock Band, a music game ala Guitar Hero that allows up to four players to jam out on four different instrument controllers. The controllers: two guitars (lead and bass), a drum kit and a microphone. The Jamming: in-the-room or online!

But that's not, as they say, all. Rock Band will feature original artists playing their original hits as opposed to the fake versions from previous guitar and karaoke games.

"Rock Band takes the core premise of Guitar Hero and expands it tenfold," says Alex Rigopulos, co-founder of Harmonix, which developed the game and the Karaoke Revolution games. "It lets you create a complete collaborative band."

"Our vision for Rock Band is to completely change the way people interact with and enjoy the music they love,” said Jeff Yapp, EVP, MTV Program Enterprises. By joining forces with EA and the music industry's largest record labels and publishers, we are striving to create a groundbreaking new platform that allows people to connect with their favorite music and artists in ways they never have before.”

The game will be available before Christmas (most likely) and is for the 360 and PlayStation 3. No tracklists have been released and no screenshots produced, but you can bet we'll give 'em up when we get 'em!

TheFeed needs a shower now.

All I can say is Holy Crap...I hope this is released this year.

Blitz 04-02-2007 04:02 PM

Just beat me to posting this. Gonna be awesome.

Extreme Angle 04-02-2007 04:06 PM

So the game comes with all the instruments, The mic, 2 guitars and a drum set...
How much do you think It'll be worth

Funky Fly 04-02-2007 04:17 PM

Ssssssssssssssssssexy

Silent 04-02-2007 04:48 PM

Wow this sounds sweet! I used to play the drums while my friends jammed out on Guitar Hero, but now that won't be necessary. I hope this isn't too expensive. :o

Shaggy 04-02-2007 05:03 PM

I was actually trying to predict how much it would cost...

Would be great if the Guitar Hero controllers could be used as the guitar ones for this game...then I would only need to pick up the mic and drum...

But if its all the instruments together then im predicting over 200

Silent 04-02-2007 05:04 PM

Yeah, I'd be willing to pay 200 for this game though. It would be a blast.

Funky Fly 04-02-2007 05:37 PM

Since it'll be on the 360 and the PS3, they should be able to put new tracks up for d/l. That would be sweet.

Kalyx triaD 04-02-2007 08:34 PM

Would this be Guitar Hero 3? Can I use the Guitar Controllers already out? Is there a difference between Guitar and Bass Controllers? Will there be an online Battle of the Bands mode?

I want answers.

PS2 Guitar controllers can't be used on PS3, I don't think.

Kalyx triaD 04-02-2007 08:39 PM

No. The Red Octane controller will not work for this game. Money grubbing bastards.

Still getting the damn thing.

I know....im talking about the 360 Guitar Hero controllers...

I have two of them on hold at work for me to pick up early tomorrow morning

Silent 04-02-2007 11:58 PM

No current controllers on the new game.

One thing is certain, if you are about to buy Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360, the Red Octane instrument will not work with Rock Band. The peripherals for Rock Band are being created by Harmonix and will not be identical to the guitar recently released by Activision for 360.

When the first one came out I wondered if something like this would ever happen. Apparently it will. Harmonix stole my idea.

If they're not working with Red Octane this time, it's a logical conclusion that the controllers won't work.

Yes, we're very excited by the prospect of Rock Band, the music game that allows up to four players to rock out on fake instruments, but only because TheFeed are oil barons who routinely light our cigarillos with $100 bills; This game will not be cheap.

According to gaming blog Kotaku, GameStop is taking preorders for the peripherals for the game, and if the listings are correct, putting together a full band with wireless equipment costs more than $300.

Broken down:

The microphone sells for $39.99
Standard guitar for $59.99
Wireless guitar $79.99
drums going for $79.99
Rock Band game for $59.99
These prices aren't set, but rest assured, it will won't be cheap.

TheFeed's Frank Meyer recommends spending that money on an actual guitar, and actually rocking out. He points out that you can get a perfectly serviceable Epiphone Les Paul knock-off for about that price

---------------------------------------------------------------

Well there it is....prices for the paripherals

Silent 04-04-2007 05:37 PM

I'd be willing to buy a set of that for those prices, it will be fun.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-04-2007 05:58 PM

This will be utterly badass if you can play online efficiently, especially if you can have a "battle of the bands" type set up with a set band.

Hopefully lag doesn't kill this.

Blitz 04-04-2007 06:11 PM

I'm assuming (hoping) that you'll be able to go through single player mode with one instrument at a time. Cuz there's no way I'm buying all those peripherals at once.

OssMan 04-04-2007 07:27 PM

Can someone explain to me how they are going to analyze your performance on the microphone during the game

FakeLaser 04-04-2007 07:56 PM

I don't know, they already have Karaoke Revolution, so I'd imagine it'd be similar to that. I forget how that works though, I've only played it once.

el fregadero 04-04-2007 07:57 PM

They have karoake revolution and games like that, so I'm assuming it will be along the same line as those.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-04-2007 08:43 PM

I demand cowbell as a peripheral.

OssMan 04-04-2007 11:16 PM

Ridiculous FakeRazor/el fregadero paradox within this thread

Blitz 06-15-2007 01:34 AM

Tons of info, including 4 announced songs (THE WHO  )

What Would Kevin Do? 06-15-2007 01:48 AM

THat my friend, is some hot shit.

When does this come out as opposed to GH3... BEcause I know the GH3 guitars will work for this, but the official guitars can do more... I wonder if the official ones will work for GH3 though, becauseI don't want to have to buy a shitload of fucking fake guitars.

Kalyx triaD 06-15-2007 02:13 AM

SON OF A BITCH

Five extra fret buttons will add alot to the experience.

Jam session after songs for doing well as a team :D .

Drum set sounds badass!

I seen the CAW mode a mile away.

I wonder if the Mic's star power has the crowd singing along with you...

Otherwise this game is sounding like an awesome experience.

SWEET

el fregadero 06-15-2007 03:18 AM

I am so pumped for this. Gotta find some people who are down for the cause though.

KingofOldSchool 06-15-2007 08:28 AM

They sold me at The Who.

gatoconbotas 06-15-2007 08:37 AM

Hard and Expert on drums is like playing the real drums.
Nice addition there.

I do have to say...I'm STOKED for this.

Singing is now more in depth. There is a phoneme detector that will pick up individual vowels and consonants you say. Build up enough highly judged phrases and you'll be able to sing free-form. If you do well enough in free-form, then you'll trigger the vocalist's version of star power.
Still wondering how the fuck this works.

Microphone doubles as a tambourine on many songs to combat super long guitar solos where the singer doesn't have much to do.
It was gay when Freddie MErcury did it, and it's gay today.

There will be a character creation system, and you can create multiple avatars that play different instruments.
Was hoping for something like this for GH eventually.

Disturbed316 06-15-2007 05:41 PM

Fuck, was hoping Paranoid was going to be on GH.

Funky Fly 06-15-2007 05:57 PM

It's called Priopism. Or high school.

No Denver 06-16-2007 09:06 PM

Anyone else concerned about 4 different note charts on one screen?

Requiem 06-16-2007 09:15 PM

I didn't even think of how they will tell you what notes to play. Gonna be kinda confusing.

el fregadero 06-16-2007 09:42 PM

Gonna need a bigger tv.

Kalyx triaD 06-17-2007 12:59 AM

Guitar and Bass on the right and left sides, drums in the bottom middle, mic scrolls sideways on the top.
