CABANA GETS A DEAL!

Ring of Honor regular "Classic" Colt Cabana has signed a WWE developmental deal and is expected to be assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling. Cabana was backstage at Wrestlemania 23 over the weekend and has done some enhancement work for WWE in the past.

Cabana, who's worked regularly for ROH since 2002, is best known as one third of the Second City Saints in ROH alongside current ECW star CM Punk and WWE developmental talent Ace Steel (who trained Punk and Cabana both).

Cabana and Punk held the ROH Tag Team championships in the past and did a great "Odd Couple" type of deal where the straightedge and serious Punk played off the more comedic Cabana.

While in ROH, Cabana feuded with a number of stars including Raven, Homicide, The Briscoe Brothers, Nigel McGuiness, and Jimmy Jacobs. While in ROH, some of his highlight bouts were against Punk, Samoa Joe, James Gibson (aka Smackdown's Jamie Noble) and Bryan Danielson.

Cabana has been touring Europe regularly in recent years and also worked for MTV Wrestling Society X under the masked persona of "Matt Classic". It would appear his WWE signing may be an indication that MTV has started to release wrestlers contractually bound to the project. PWInsider.com is working on confirming that as of this writing.

Ring of Honor announced that Cabana's last date with the company will be 4/28 in his homestate of Illinois at their return to the Windy Cityt Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge. Cabana commented on his signing on the official www.ROHWrestling.com website, stating, ""For the past four and a half years the only consistent thing in my life has been ROH. ROH has been my home and family. The Chicago show on April 28th is not going to be a farewell, but a celebration. We are going to celebrate how great ROH is and will continue to be. It's not going to be a good bye, its going to be a "Seeya later". Thanks for all the good time, and great memories!"
The 4/28 event will be titled "Good Times, Great Memories" in honor of backstage vignettes in the guise of a talk show that Cabana regularly did on ROH DVD releases.

It's official. All 3 Second City Saints have a WWE contract.

Rob 04-03-2007 04:06 PM

He should have had a deal ages ago.

GAYRAPE 04-03-2007 04:08 PM

Nice. It will probably be over a year before we see him though.

Chavo Classic 04-03-2007 04:12 PM

About fucking time. He checks every box in the WWE "Superstar" selection form and he's been overlooked for too long. Good Luck Colt.

Jura 04-03-2007 04:14 PM

I think he's tried out before for WWE but they cut him.

Mr. JL 04-03-2007 04:42 PM

Congrats to Cabana!

Is this going to get the same internet hype as guys like Samoa Joe and CM Punk?

Xero 04-03-2007 05:04 PM

You know it.

No matter how well he did on the indies, he will not go anywhere unless he gets huge pops... Wait, Punk got huge pops, didn't he?

Yea and he continues to get pushed and merchandised and hasn't been handed a crappy gimmick, or a handful of losses, or reduced tv time. So all of the fan bitching is pretty annoying. Because what do you expect, them to put all 3 titles on him in the WM ME? Give it time he's doing more than fine in the WWE and they're doing a good job with him. A guy like Punk can get s slow and steady push with a lot of momentum if he continues to get pops and WWE continues to do exactly what they're doing. He's not gonna get the Brock Lesnar or Lashley treatment for obvious reasons.

Chavo Classic 04-03-2007 05:42 PM

If they change his character and keep him off the stick I might just cry

The One 04-03-2007 05:47 PM

Punk had a great first mania, being the last guy fighting for the briefcase with Kennedy. Hell when he knocked Kennedy off the ladder, they made you think Punk had the win right there. Punk is gonna be a slow project, I just hope they put Cabana with him so they can play off each other. Seeing Punk act with Cabana added a lot to his ROH character.

Blitz 04-03-2007 08:23 PM

Do you honestly think they're gonna let Colt Cabana act the way he does on the indies.

Mike the Metal Ed 04-03-2007 08:30 PM

R.I.P. Team Shag. :'(

Dave Youell 04-03-2007 08:51 PM

1PW are fucking shit anyway.

In other news, I've been in a match with a WWE wrestler. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Honestly? Yes. I think it's the reason they signed him.

What is more unlikely, but I hope they do anyway, is put Ace Steel, CM Punk and Colt Cabana together on ECW as the Second City Saints. That could move some merchandise, get over, and provide another power for the Originals vs. New Breed feud (presuming it lasts that long).

Mr. Nerfect 04-03-2007 11:37 PM

I would not object to Colt Cabana getting a singles push on either RAW or SmackDown!, though. Or they can put the Second City Saints on either the A or B show, rather than the C show.

Marquis Cor Cabana.

Mr. Monday Morning 04-04-2007 08:06 AM

Nigel can't be too far behind, if they have any sense

I'm predicting that a month after the guy finally debuts we'll be deluged with "Colt Cabana is a useless overrated piece of crap" threads.

The One 04-04-2007 12:46 PM

I can't wait for the 10 million threads about how Cabana is nothing special, and then all the RoH marks whinning and crying that you just don't know, and if you'd seen him in RoH you'd realise he's a god!!!!!!omgZ!1!!!

Theo Dious 04-04-2007 01:04 PM

It'll be WWE's fault for "holding him down," count on it.

Yeah, and no matter how many times it happens, people seem shocked when people start with the WWE and aren't doing the exact same things they did in the smaller promotions.

What you just described are retards, not ROH marks. Granted some people are both, but to just lump them all in together is asinine.

Anybody who complains about Punk's push is deluded, quite frankly. He's been given WAY more than I ever imagined at this point. Same with Joe, although tbh I have less faith in what he's got to come than what Punk has in front of him at the moment.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-04-2007 04:09 PM

Cabana will never, ever be WWE champ. He could make a great IC champ though.

Just have him be the frat boy who doesn't give a shit and just wants to have fun. He's charasmatic as hell, and shouldn't have a problem getting over.

RGWhat316 04-04-2007 04:24 PM

Congrats to Colt. Now it seems cooler that I was at ROH this weekend cus I got to see some of his last ROH matches. The dude is charasmatic, and a big guy so it makes sense that he should have been called up to WWE.

He's getting pushed fine. He continues to be booked well, like participating and doing well in MITB. And being booked very strongly for the duration of the Royal Rumble.
He's only lost a few meaningless matches that I can count on my hand, most of which were cheat losses, and one of which was a PPV main event elimination.

He continues to get popped, be over and be showcased weekly. And he wins. People need to relax.

Perhaps, and I don't even watch ROH, but you gave everyone the perfect comedic setup to say "what's the difference?"

ron the dial 04-04-2007 04:35 PM

Glad that I get to see Cabana's last ROH match. Should be an okay match, but the emotion will be off the charts. I'm also glad that he signed with WWE. Strange to know that all of the Second City Saints up in the big leagues.

IC Champion 04-04-2007 05:21 PM

Good for Colt, hes a great talker and a fun guy to watch in the ring, hope he does well with the wwe

It'd be sweet if they let him write his own material. I have a feeling Cabana will be able to make anything funny. He danced to the ring for his jobbing duty on Heat.

I would LOVE to see Cabana as the fun-loving good guy, then all of a sudden he decides to stop having fun and start being ambitious. A heel turn down the line would be magnificent.

That it would. Cabana at one point selling out, and being uber serious (almost like a Bob Backlund ripoff), or even working for someone like McMahon or Melina, would be excellent.

Also, they could try to recreate his Homicide feud in a sense.... Have someone just beat the holy hell out of him and put him out of action, and when he comes back, instead of being the fun happy guy, he just wants to kill the guy.

I could see it as a modern day Ted DiBiase/Virgil.

Carlito playing the arrogant snobby heel and Cabana playing his flunky.

Theo Dious 04-05-2007 02:05 PM

Yeah, look what happened to the last guy to play Carlito's sidekick.

Xero 04-05-2007 02:07 PM

Jesus that was bad...
