CM Punk *Spoilers if you haven't watched ECW*

So CM Punk has aligned himself with the New Breed and turned heel.

1) Will this launch his alleged "big push"?
2) As popular as he's been, is he really going to get strong enough heel heat?
3) Is anybody really going to give a shit about the collective turd that is ECW and CM Punks involvement in that collective turd?

Optional Extra Question - So who is going to be the star/leader/whatever of the New Breed? Punk or Burke?

Anybody Thrilla 04-12-2007 01:21 PM

First of all, I'd like to say that I think ECW has been entirely watchable for quite some time now. Secondly, I think turning Punk heel was a pretty good move...however, they really don't have any faces in ECW that aren't Originals or Bobby Lashley (unless I'm overlooking somebody...is Hardcore Holly a face?). Thirdly, the best way that this can turn out is if The New Breed becomes a power struggle between Elijah Burke and CM Punk, culminating in what would be a great feud, hopefully with The Silver Tongued Pugilist coming out the victor.

Mercury Bullet 04-12-2007 01:26 PM

I'm kinda hoping the initial idea is Punk and Burke kinda share the spotlight, but gradually the rest of the NB starts to align themselves more with Punk. Say, Punk starts emerging as this 'superstar' and moves into the title picture while Burke kinda gets pushed aside eventually culminating with Punk kicking Burke out cause they don't need him anymore, or something along those lines. Maybe a Burke face turn and a fued between Burke & Punk? I don't know, just throwing crap out there.

And yeh, ECW has been alot better the past two weeks, but i don't have enough faith in the product to believe it will last.

Anybody Thrilla 04-12-2007 01:29 PM

Well you're going to have no fun watching with that attitude.

Anybody Thrilla 04-12-2007 01:30 PM

I don't really want to see Burke as a face, either, but I'm pretty partial to heels. He might be able to pull him off, but his character right now is mint. I am interested to see what's going to be different about Chick Magnet Punk, though.

Mercury Bullet 04-12-2007 01:32 PM

I don't know that a heel-heel fued would work really well with them two though. And with Punk's character, yeh I don't know what they're going to change exactly to get him enough heel heat to make a sustained run. And a heel-heel fued with Burke would probably just make Punk the face.

Anybody Thrilla 04-12-2007 01:33 PM

Oh, I'm not saying they should both be heels when they feud, but I mean, it's plausible. Look at Orton/Edge right now.

Punktards have for years told me the reason I hate him is because he's so masterful at gaining heat (Which is primarily stupid because I hate his face role too), so if he's as Godly as the cocksuckers on this site claim, he should be able to get heel heat masterfully.

Of course, he was also going to main event Mania and unify the belts, followed by walking on water, raising Eddie from the dead, and healing the ailing Bret Hart. So he'll probably fall short here.

Mercury Bullet 04-12-2007 01:35 PM

^ True.

But Orton gets a solid mixed reaction from the crowd. I think the same would happen with Punk. Fans would just start siding with him and he could play the heel all he wants, and still get a pop for it.

While I certainly don't possess a disdain for him like that, I will admit that he is overhyped and entirely too much is expected of him this soon. Though in the midst of the shitfest that is typical of WWE programming as of late, I say why the hell not take a chance on somebody unproven. Is it really going to get worse?

Anyway, I don't see him main eventing outside of ECW anytime soon and he honestly shouldn't be.

Anybody Thrilla 04-12-2007 01:46 PM

I wish this thread had a CM Punk v. Elijah Burke poll.

I'm mostly sick of people jumping on the bandwagon of every new guy as some sort of savior. It's not that I'm not a fan of Carlito or Kennedy or Burchill, but people are morons and take this shit wayyyy too far.

Though I do hate Punk. Fucking fake straightedge boring minotherfuckers who look like coked out rats...Probablywouldn't hate him so much if he wasn't so frequently fellated on here, but I would still hate him.

Anybody Thrilla 04-12-2007 02:10 PM

What's fake about his straightedgehood? Not trying to argue, just asking.

Gosh Mr. Kane Knight, you use your mouth purtier than a $20 whore.

BTW congrats on 100,000.

Mercury Bullet 04-12-2007 02:37 PM

I think he is legit straightedge NOW, but he has the sunken eyes of a heroine addict. Makes me wonder.

Theo Dious 04-12-2007 02:39 PM

Is he a vegeterian or a vegan or anything? Cause that'll give you those eyes too.

Mercury Bullet 04-12-2007 02:40 PM

I dont understand the Carlito hype at all. He's a solid mid-carder and nothing more. I honestly don't see a shred of world title/main event potential in him. I don't get it.

I will admit that the reason I want to see Carlito with the title may have everything to do with wanting to see Cena without it.

Yes, indeed. I can understand that.

Anybody Thrilla 04-12-2007 03:23 PM

Why the fuck are you guys talking about Carlito in here?

Funny how you always pop in all the CM Punk related threads and talk nonsense.

Obsessed much? :shifty:

I really don't care for him either, but I'll go as far as saying that I've never seen anything of him in ROH, other than ring-work.

On another note, I'm actually really hoping that Punk turns on them shortly and goes back to being a face for the simple fact that I don't want Burke to be squashed in favor of him.

One possibility is that Lashley finally gets pulled into this New Breed/Originals mess and there becomes room for two big heels, but we'll see. Personally, I'd rather see Punk continue as a face and fued with Burke.

KingofOldSchool 04-12-2007 03:37 PM

His heel turn sucked, it was really anti-climatic they could've added SOME drama to it.

Booking 101 says when an angle like this happens and the person who is making the choice confronts one side and stands there shaking their fists for five minutes, then he's going to "Swerve" and hug them a minute later.

Mercury Bullet 04-12-2007 05:02 PM

^ Yeh it was played out pretty shitty.

BigDaddyCool 04-12-2007 05:27 PM

Side question, in WCW was the New Blood face or heel?

Mooияakeя™ 04-12-2007 05:34 PM

Will be good to see. Bear in mind all we go off over here is internet chat about his early career as we don't get OVW / ROH over here, so I'll have to take the premise he can get heat.

But it just seems to me lately that there's no real "HEEL" now in the WWE. I mean that in the sense like, the crowd basically cheer for who are meant to be HEEL's. Take Orton. He always get a pop of sorts. lol. The only true heels are the ones who have no status (like say Stevie Richards raises his arms! lol).

Oh and of coruse, The McMahon. But then he doesn't count as he's on legend status.

Heel I believe.

BigDaddyCool 04-12-2007 05:56 PM

I though the Millionares club was heel.

XL 04-12-2007 05:56 PM

Personally I feel that his heel turn is the doing of one HHH.

Turn him heel then have him depushed cos he can't draw heel heat!!:shifty:

My (vague) recollection was that the New Breed were rising up against the old guys that were holding them down - making them face.

I know Russo sided with the New Blood, which why I'm pretty sure they were heels.

I guess this just goes to show the quality of WCW booking around this time.

Are we supposed to side witht the New Blood cos they're young guys that are the future of the business but are being held down

OR

Are we supposed to hate them cos they're trying to replace our favourite wrestlers

OR

Are we supposed to favour the Millionaires Club cos they've been around for years and have worked to be where they are and if this is true why would we, the normal proletariat, want to be favouring guys that are millionaires??

OR

Are we supposed to hate them cos they're using politics and stroke to keep the young guys down?

The WCW New Blood were heels.

Jaded-Dragon 04-12-2007 09:07 PM

I wouldn't go so far as to say he is the end all, be all, savior of wrestling, but I do have some ROH moments that stand out.

Joe vs Punk 1, Joe is outside and a Punk fan is doing his pose towards Joe. Joe sees the fan and acts like he is going to throw a punch. The fan ducks and Joe starts laughing and calling him a little bitch. Joe walks away and Punk slides to the outside and walks over to the fan. He extends his hand for a handshake. The Punk fan obligies and extends his hand as well. Right as they are about to make contact, Punk reels his hand back in, slicks his hair, and slides back into the ring. And as I watched that, I couldn't help but say, "Wow, that's a good heel."

Also when he signed his WWE contract on the ROH title. Good stuff. :y:

This isn't a personal thing so don't take it the wrong way...

I've seen this phrase used a few times on these boards in the last few days but I always though the saying was "the be all and end all" with the words in that order!?:-\

Rammsteinmad 04-12-2007 10:12 PM

Knowing WWE logic, next week CM Punk will finally announce what his initials stand for: New Breed Punk. :|

The One 04-12-2007 10:18 PM

XL - It's "End all, be all."

New Blood - They were heels, the Millionares Club were faces.

New Blood/Millionares Club - A terrible, terrible, terrible angle.

CM Punks turn - boring

CM Punk - Good, possible Main Eventer, WAY over hyped by RoH Marks.

RoH Marks - Just as bad as TNA Sheeple as far as thinking their shitty indy company is worth jackshit.

The One - Done with this thread.
