Could Kai En Tai have ever made a legit Tag Team?

TAKA was just finishing up with his reign as Light Heavyweight Champion, and Funaki wasn't quite so comical yet. Could they have ever posed as a legit threat or possible Champs?

M-A-G 04-19-2007 08:48 PM

No.

Ironballs 04-19-2007 08:53 PM

With the right push and enough ring time, sure. I remember seeing Taka in his pre-WWF days, the guy was off the hook. Unfortunately, they'll be remembered for that Val Venis angle where Venis boned their managers daughter, they caught him, then their manager said the infamous line "choppy choppy your pee pee!"

I think they will more be remembered for INDEEED!!!

Is it true that they wrestled at Barely Legal? Or was that just Taka and two other guys?

ClockShot 04-19-2007 09:02 PM

The only thing I remember about Kai En Tai was that Mrs. Yamaguchi was hot.

Funky Fly 04-19-2007 10:42 PM

Are you talking about when it was TAKA, Funaki and (I think) Dick Togo? Because that was awesome and I would have loved to see them take the titles.

Maria xXx 04-19-2007 10:49 PM

Indeeeeeeeed was funny. Funaki is not funny now he speaks English. Does Taka still wrestle?

IC Champion 04-19-2007 10:51 PM

I remember them for bein eliminated multiple times during a Royal Rumble.

Vietnamese Crippler 04-19-2007 11:38 PM

^^ Royal Rumble 2000, the 3rd time he got thrown out he smashed the side of his face into the floor

IC Champion 04-19-2007 11:48 PM

LOL, I was gonna mention that, I just remember seein Taka bounce his face off the floor, lookin to my uncle and sayin "they wont be back again"

I believe he does, over in Japan.

I was first introduced to Kaientai when they were "Team Evil" and being dubbed over. That angle has truly grown on me as it becomes a distant memory. My whole family sat down and watched these two on the 2001 Royal Rumble DVD. The found it extremely entertaining.

So yes, I think they could have been WWE Tag Team Champions, if the WWE weren't so dead-set against using small guys effectively at the time.

That was when wrestling in general was entertaining.

If they were pushed as a babyface underdog tag team they could have done it. Just look at London and Kendrick. They didn't need to work the mic to get over. They just needed to show off their in ring skills.

Impeccable 04-20-2007 03:12 AM

Yeah, they managed to get Too Cool over as Tag champs, although they did have Rikishi backing them up.

Maybe if they had an large enforcer they would have had a better chance at getting over.

ttetf 04-20-2007 08:33 AM

absolutely

Yes that was really them, though Funaki was not on the team at the time. It was TAKA, Dick Togo, and Men's Teio.

BigDaddyCool 04-22-2007 03:13 PM

Spanky and London are a legit team, and one of the best runs in a while, especially when you factor in their size. I see no reason Kai En Tai couldn't have had a similar push.

Theo Dious 04-23-2007 10:11 AM

Somebody tell me, why is TAKA always capitalized? :?:

Because every letter of his name is as important as the preceding letter, therefore they all must be capitalized.

lort 04-23-2007 11:33 AM

They easily could have been. Some of the joke tag teams that have held the titles is just astonishing and Kai En Tai could have gotten over as the foreign heel team or as a comedy face team. I think they would have fitted in nicely in TLC matches of that period or just plain ladder matches.

And yeah he still wrestles in Japan, Kaientai*DX have just reformed actually with the original members - Funaki actually wrestled a show with them on new years when they reformed.

Darth; I believe it is just in Japanese Kanji the name is in capitals.

Then why don't we spell NASH like that?

While you bring up an interesting point, Kevin Nash is also very humble unlike that ego manic TAKA.

The One 04-23-2007 12:07 PM

No, he's right, from now on NASH will only be typed by me in all caps.

Well you are wrong, because KEVIN is just as important as NASH.
