What's your take on Comedy in music?
Obviously, in certain artist's repertoires, like Weird Al Yankovic, for instance, it works just fine, and then there's other people, real-life comedians who try to incorporate their stuff in to one shitty album and, I dunno, those kinda albums never really cut it as funny with me...so let's discuss who's awesome, and not-so-awesome at incorporating comedy into their music?
|
Depends on how it is done. Some are shitty and not really creative. But others know what they are doing, like with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's "Come Poop With Me" cd they know what they are doing. It's nothing great, but they are sticking to what they know and the fans like.

If it's good, great. Wierd Al can be brilliant, and some comedians mix music in well to their repitoire.
I'm a fan of Dennis Leary's comedic songs. They're not great, but they still make me laugh. |
If you do it well, great. Otherwise, stay away from me.
Pretty much the same as regular music. |
Brian Posehn's "Metal By Numbers" song is awesome, I think he does a good job with music/comedy. Also, Weird Al is usually great too.

It's not really good music. But funny I guess.

EDIT: Unless the actual comedy was that the jokes were less inspired than the music...But that's getting pretty ceredbral. |

Stephen Lynch is the man.

Just like any other type of music style, it's got to be done right.
|
Stephen Lynch is amazing.
Also, Bloodhound Gang's "Hurray for Boobies" cd is great... |
I don't really find most comedic music to be all that funny. If it's done well though it's great. Like I love most all of Weird Al's stuff, but at the same time I don't care much for Tenacious D like everybody else. Dunno.
|
How come no one has mentioned the D?
Also Lynch as already mentioned is great and Leary's Asshole is still a personal fav of mine. |

Anyway, I enjoy Spinal Tao for the most part, though some of their stuff is rather obnoxious. |
But it does go all the way up to 11
|
I knew that quote like 10 years before I saw Spinal Tap (With the exception of their appearance on the Simpsons).
|
Not greatly. Usually because people obsess over it so damn much. I really admire Weird Als talent and songwriting etc. but I NEVER listen to him ever because I hear so much of it and I have heard people that said that Joan Jett 'stole' Weird Als song. How fucking stupid are people?
That said though, I love the Happy Hardcore Cillit Bang remix, Thomas The Tank and 50 Cent mix, and the DAY-O song from beetlejuice (never seen the film, just heard that song) |
"Day-o" Isn't really a comedy. It's about working on a bannana "Farm."
The only real comedy is the acts in the movies. It's similar to Bohemian Rhapsody, except it didn't get Harry Belafonte a music video and a #1 hi decades later. |
