Point of Confusion

Yeah, it's possible that there is something I'm unaware of that would explain this, but I had it backwards in my head, and a few days ago I was looking at WWE's title history section when a question dawned on me...

How the hell did Nash beat Michaels to the WWF title?

Did it have something to do with that stint where Michaels was suspended, or what? Can anyone help me out with this?

I am insulted.

There isn't even a mention of Justin Credible above.

:shifty:

Well I dont know for sure. but Id say it was due to HBKs drug suspension in late 93 and being injured most of 94 as the reasons Nash got the belt before HBK.

Maybe Vince wasn't totally off his big man fetish yet - despite Hart.

"Yet" makes it sound like he's over it now.

Well, we all know Vince loves his 7 foot 300 pounders. Although, I think the match that Nash had against Bret Hart at the King of the Ring 1994 really opened peoples eyes up that Nash could be a champion. He made great opponents for Hart and Michaels. I even remember watching a few of his matches against King Mabel during his run and he was doing planchas over the top rope to the outside to try to make the match watchable. Definitely in the prime of his career when he held the WWF belt.

Nash was big. Shawn was not.

I don't think Shawn was really considered WWF title material until he got over as a face in 1995. Diesel was getting good crowd reactions in 1994 as a tweener partner to the heel Michaels, and obviously Vince was impressed/desperate enough to take a risk.
