I have a bit of an obsession with baseball history so I thought it'd be neat to compare an assembly of each team's best players to see who's better. If this goes over well I can do other ones like Giants/Dodgers, Cubs/Cardinals, or any other one if somebody has a request.

But first up it's the sport's best rivalry. The players are basically picked on if they made some sort of significant contribution to the team moreso than how long they played there. Also I'm not overlapping players. Ruth is a Yankee and Boggs and Clemens are Red Sox.

Not being a huge baseball fan here, I'm going to say the Yankees for a simple reason.

the Yankees have a surprisingly thin corp of 3B in their history so besides Boggs, A-Rod has really contributed the most of everyone

and don't argue Scott Brosius is better

I was actually discussing an "all-time" Yankees team the other day and I came up with almost the same lineup. I might have had Munson as backup catcher though. A couple more years and Cano could take Lazerri's spot as starting 2B. You could make a case for Soriano too, actually. Oh yeah, I actually might have picked Willie Randolph as my 2B. Rickey Henderson as a pinch runner might be better than Winfield off the bench also.

I gotta say this though, it's the Yankees by far. Come on. The Yankees have been consistently one of the best teams in baseball since the 1920s. Only in the late 1960s and early 1990s have they sucked. We've had some of the best players EVER. We are the best and most successful franchise in all of sports.

The Sox have a pretty sick starting rotation, I'll give them that. Ours is also ridiculous though so whatever.

Imagine trying to set a batting order out of those lineups? Ridiculous.

While the Yankees have had a much stronger winning tradition, the match up between those 2 teams would have to be a toss up since there is just so much talent on both sides.

So I'm gonna vote Red Sox since everyone else is gonna not even look at the 2 teams and vote off of the history of the two franchises.

I looked at the lineups and I simply think the Yankees are better. The Red Sox probably have a better rotation, well probably pretty easily, but the Yankees have such awesome hitters that I can't go against them.

where is Mike Greenwell?!?!?

If you can make a case for him over any of the other 5 OFs already on the roster be my guest. I'd love to hear your reasoning for putting him on over any of them.

then shouldn't Clemens be a Yankee? Apart from playing for the Red Sox for more years, he won a championship as a Yankee and also, as a free agent he chose to leave Boston and chose to play for New York. I'd say he's firmly a Yankee.

His numbers in New York weren't even close to his numbers in Boston. And he didn't choose to play in New York. He chose to go to Toronto and then was traded to New York. FACT

He was forced out of Boston as well

Didn't he just sign in New York as a free agent?

I guess it depends what hat he wears into the HOF. At that point we'll know where he should be placed.
