Who is #1 contender for Edge's title?

Please tell me it isn't Batista. Unless I'm mistaken, Edge beat him clean in the middle of the ring. Sure Edge may have taken advatage of Bats hurting himself, but that isn't cheating.

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 10:03 AM

Oh they'll probably have some kind of gimmick match at the next PPV. Seriously, Batista lost at WM, lost a rematch bid, drew against Taker, and now he's lost to Edge. Give it up already, let him feud with Mark Henry in the midcard while Edge takes on someone who hasn't had more than his share of shots.

*Cough*Benoit*Cough*

Kane Knight 05-22-2007 10:09 AM

It's Batista.

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 10:10 AM

That would be my choice, however it seems that isn't likely to happen any time soon. :(

Dave Youell 05-22-2007 10:10 AM

Well Benoit has just lost the US title, so now would be a good time for him to have a go, but it's well known that Hayes doesn't think he's strong enough for it.

Kennedy is still 6 weeks from being fit

As a filler till Kennedy is fit for summerslam i'd go with Kane

Kane's stuck in a feud though while Benoit could just progress up to feuding with Edge, so what if Hayes disagrees? Benoit could always just 'prove him wrong'. (didn't Benoit used to say something like that? Or is my memory imagining things?) A Benoit/Edge feud would get me watching Smackdown again, i couldn't give a shit about it right now.

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 10:14 AM

Also either Hardy would be a better choice than Batista.

Good point. Jeff is the on that originally took Edge out of the money in the bank match, he has more claim to #1 contendership than Bats. And Matt and Edge still have the Lita thing.

Or Benoit. They might not be the best drawing mainevents, but they would be techincally sound.

Hell, even Henry would be a better choice than Bats. It is getting old because Bats has been in every Heavywieght title match for the past 5 or 6 months. It is time to move him down and give someone else a shot.

This is what I was talking about in the "Benoit not a main event star" thread. This is the point where Benoit needs to be in ME feuds; a new heel champion who can get over by going over a face former champ. After that he can have a feud with a face in a better position to win the belt from him.

Well, personally I hate Chris Benoit, but I will admit he can be used in the mainevent sparingly. He has instant mainevent cred as being the best techincal wrestler ever or whatever he claims. Also he is fairly over. But in no way do I think he should be used as a long term maineventer as he can't carry the fued on the talking end. But he can always be considered a contender at a moments notice because of his fairly stable history and gimmick.

:y: :y:

I like watching the guy wrestle, but I could never take him in large doses as a main event star. His work with MVP has been pretty enjoyable (especially now that MVP has gone over.)

Kane Knight 05-22-2007 10:50 AM

I'd imagine the real #1 contender is the first guy to come along with a hook and the right bait.

Are you loosing your mind, first you don't lik Melina, and now you are talking about fishing. This is wrestling man, get with it. There is no hooks or bait.

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 10:56 AM

Has there ever been a wrestler with a fishing gimmick?

OOH! I KNOW!!!

THE BASS MASTER!!!

There's already a fisherman's suplex! It would be AWESOME!!!

I don't think there has been a fisherman gimmick in mainsteam wrestling. Of course, if there was, he would have to fued with Sharkboy constantly.

tucsonspeed6 05-22-2007 11:07 AM

When the main event is as injured as it is, excuses like "He hasn't got the mic skills" shouldn't really apply. At least not in the same way that they would with a full roster. If somebody wanted to make an excuse not to use Batista, I could give three: He isn't over. He doesn't have the wrestling ability, and he doesn't have the mic skills to be a main eventer either.

I'm not saying that they should automatically go with Benoit, but there are plenty of upper midcarders who should be given the ball and see what they're going to do with it. The one ray of sunshine amid all of these injuries is that they happend to the WWE during a particularly slow time of year PPV-wise. If we were a month away from Summerslam, I'd say go with whatever main eventer you have (Batista). But how many PPVs are between now and then? 2? I think with proper booking, you could be safe bumping up an upper midcarder at this point.

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 11:10 AM

Incidentally, Batista should feud with Kennedy when he gets back from his injury... injury. Yes I know that was lazy.

He should carry one of those singing wall mounted fish with him. Better yet. He should carry it around everywhere and talk to it. It could be his manager.

Then he could cut promos saying, "My manager, Big Mouth Bob, has advised me not to discuss strategy with the press at this time. He has, however, prepared a statement concerning my opponent." *Holds up fish and presses button. Fish begins to sing. The Bass Master nods and glares at the camera while Todd Grisham looks back and forth between the fish, the bass master, and the camera confused.*

And if he ever lost a match, he'd pick up the fish and scream at it like, "You told me to stay away from the ropes! WHy would you tell me to stay away from the ropes?!?" Or some-such nonsense.

So you're saying that it should be Al Snow?

tucsonspeed6 05-22-2007 11:20 AM

Has it been 7 years yet?

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 11:25 AM

Unless you count Tough Enough, it's been about that.

tucsonspeed6 05-22-2007 11:29 AM

Then yes. Everyone on earth has forgotten about what's-his-name. I'm all for it.

BigDaddyCool 05-22-2007 11:44 AM

While they could use Al Snow for this, or they could find a new goof. Austin Starr is going to be looking for work soon.

Kane Knight 05-22-2007 12:33 PM

They should work with the Bass Master gimmick, but make it a tag team. Chris Masters and someone. Then they could call their tag team move "Hook, Line, and Sinker."

How about they give it to Masters and have the remaining members of the Spirit Squad his 3-man backup? "The Bass Master, with Hook, Line, and Sinker."

Kane Knight 05-22-2007 01:22 PM

They could be a boy band, even. It's a little gayer than they're used to, but they'll manage.

Lux 05-22-2007 01:59 PM

I swear to god if they do run with a bass master gimmick (which we know they won't, bastards) i'd watch wrestling more

BigDaddyCool 05-22-2007 02:40 PM

Wait, wasn't this suppose to be about Edge? :?:

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 02:48 PM

You're surprised? A thread about Raven turned into a rant on my ex-girlfriend.

It wasn't a rant, it was more of a comedy routine.

Theo Dious 05-22-2007 03:00 PM

Whatever it was, it was funny, time-consuming, and had nothing to do with Raven.

He'd of course be accompanied to the ring by "Little Basstard."

Michael Cole could call him Fish-poop. Then JBL would question Cole on it. And then Cole would say Fish-poop, a bass turd if you will. Then JBL could verbily rape Cole the way he always does.
